Oops. Forgot to review American Rooter but better late than never, right? I prefer dealing with local companies and found American Rooter via Yelp when I had a problem that caused water to flood the garage around my washing machine area. Marvin (the owner) stopped by and we mutually determined that the washing machine was fine and that the issue was a clogged drain causing water to back up out of my washing machine drain pipe. He quickly cleared the clog and when I asked him to do preventative maintenance and run his rooter on my main drain line, he cheerfully agreed. Pros: - Very reasonable rates - Wiping down the side of my washing machine afterwards! It had nothing to do with the clogged drain but Marvin, I appreciate your attention to detail! - Cleaning up the debris drudged up from the clogged drain inside the garage and from the main drain pipe on the outside of the house. - Takes credit cards (yeah, hotel points!) Con: - Well, if anything, Marvin didn't give me a price on the preventative maintenance work on the main drain line until after the work was completed but it was still very reasonable and next time, I'll ask first. Marvin, the owner, happened to be across the street working on a couple of neighbors' irrigation drains and he stopped by to help us. We have a superhighway of drainage in our backyard and the storm on New Year's Eve caused water to backup because we had lots of root blockage. Marvin made several trips out to our house to get the job done so that we would not have to dig up our patio. He is a perfectionist and seems to take on jobs as a personal challenge. One of our old pipes broke late on a Saturday night, flooding part of the crawlspace beneath our house. We called Marvin first thing Sunday morning, and he responded quickly, saying he would arrive early that afternoon. Marvin is the best professional plumber you will ever get! I had an issue with my shower handle which was not turning off water. He gave me initial quote for opening the shower up and another quote if a cartridge needs to be replaced. Immediately, I sent him pictures of my shower handle, he was quick to tell me that I can fix this by myself and shared steps to do it. I don't think anyone will treat you with such professionalism. Excellent service! Marvin was prompt, priced fairly (he gave and honored the estimate), and most of all he was EFFICIENT!! He was willing to explain his work and did so in layman's terms as well as cleaned up the area he worked in, completely, after the repair. He worked on one of our toilets which is one of those repairs that must be done quickly. He was here maybe a total of 2 hours (including a run to Home Depot). Not capable of solving the problem the first time, and very difficult to communicate. Out of multiple repairs he has done for me, only once did he fixed the problem in the first trip. It is difficult to ask him to go back to complete the repair because he rarely returns phone calls and return text message with one or two days delay or no response at all. read more

I have an old house with clay drain pipes. Every 2 years or so, I get grass roots in my drain. I called Marvin this morning about my blockage, he was already on a job and told me to text the address to him he would give me an ETA when he knew better the time he would be finishing up the job he was on. Impressive work! I dropped a cat food can lid into the toilet and of course the toilet ceased to flush. My concern was that the toilet would have to be removed and the lid fished out that way (expensive). I don't write a lot of reviews, but I was so happy with Marvin's and Plumb "N Time's work that I urged him to list on Yelp! (just sorry I delayed writing this review so I am not the first reviewer). I found Marvin when I was looking to replace a leaking water heater in a SF rental property I own in August '14. Problem was I was out of town and it was late on a Friday afternoon. Marvin got back to me quickly and from speaking with him I felt comfortable hiring him sight unseen (though I will admit it was a bit of a leap of faith....). It turns out that faith was entirely justified. Not only did he pick up a new water heater and replace the faulty one that next day (on a Saturday!) but when a pipe burst in the tenant's bathroom vanity after the water main was turned back on, he quickly repaired that leak (and did not charge anything extra). The fees were very reasonable and the work was very professional.... Can't recommend them highly enough. read more
