How it works:…read more -Reserve a spot online. -Get directions to stranger's apartments/houses -Buy your own bottle of wine (or two bottles of wine) -Go with other strangers to the homes of strangers and eat a first course -Go with other strangers to the homes of strangers and eat a second course -Finish at a central area with other strangers who have all been eating first and second courses at the homes of other strangers -Vote on the best "hobby" chef at whose home you ate your first or second course at Being into food and meeting new people, this was definitely a concept and experience I can gush over! It's different than potluck - it's home cooked, restaurant presented meals, all prepared by hobby chefs. Plus you get to look at the insides of other people's apartments :) When I tried this experience a few weeks ago, I started at an apartment downtown with some Asian inspired dishes (3 appetizers to be exact) and then walked (which is what you do) to the next apartment in Yaletown where I experienced an amazing west coast themed dinner complete with some very tasty pilaf and chicken! We then all gathered at an art gallery where we were given chocolates, dessert wines and bubbles to finish off the night and the winners were announced based on their food presentation, hospitality and of course, the food! I would totally do this again - but they seem to sell out really fast! (If you do go, make sure you wear pretty socks - you'll likely need to take your shoes off at the door - it is a dinner party after all!)

How would you (and a friend) like to go to a stranger's home (hobby chefs) with another pair of…read morestrangers and have a home-cooked meal prepared for you, right in front of your eyes, while you get to know everyone and chat about your love for food and adventure and everything in between? Then you do it all over again, with another pair of strangers, at another strangers' home, having another delicious meal and wonderful conversation. Everyone (at least 24 people, because each series consists 4 pairs of hobby chefs serving 2 pairs of strangers at a time) meet at a central location after, where the hobby chefs are rated by the diners and a winner is announced. The healthy competition definitely motivate the chefs to come up with unique and delicious recipes as well as beautiful presentation. If you have a chance to try this I would recommend 100%. The hobby chefs I chose were all fantastic hosts and made my belly sooo happy and satisfied. It was such a unique dining experience that you can't compare to anything else. Tickets sell out fast so watch their website often or join their mailing list. Even better, if you and a friend enlist as hobby chefs you will get passes to go to the next event of your choice.

I visited this amazingly stunning, stately mansion yesterday to attend the seasonal winter artisan…read morecraft market here. I had never visited this building before, but somehow I was getting ads on my Facebook feed about this event, and the winter market, and the building looked so beautiful, I just had to visit. It did not disappoint. Right off 16th, just south of the south Granville strip, I had clearly passed this place so many times, yet I had no idea it existed. (For folks fairly new to Vancouver, you'll probably understand, yet every native Vancouverite seems to know about this place!). SO centrally located, yet hidden off the main drag and up a tiny hill. And the building itself is just stunning. I had read somewhere that the building had been featured in many a Hallmark Christmas movie, and once you see the building, it's totally believable. It's like out of a picture book. Dressed up for the holidays, there are red berry wreaths and sparkling lights and garlands and festive Christmas trees everywhere, seemingly in every room, with fireplaces aglow with lights, and a pianist playing carols, the music wafting in the air to each room. Lady volunteers wander the floors, dressed in red and green plaid dresses and sashes. All these volunteers were extremely friendly and personable to us, from the ladies manning the outdoor tent where you purchase admission tickets and get raffle forms, to the ladies inside, explaining where various vendors and services area. As for vendors, of course there were way less than the huge seasonal market at Circle Craft at the Convention Center, but there still were quite a few on the two floors of the mansion here, and there was a decent variety in types of items available for purchase, too: from soaps and lotions to gourmet foods (artisan vinegars and oils, amazing shortbread cookies, nuts and chocolates, etc.), to jewelry makers and clothiers, to Vancouver tote bags and stationery and greeting card makers, to homemade ornaments and organic light fixtures, and more. So much more. I recognized some vendors and artisans from the Circle Craft fair, but there were many artisans that were new to me, too. I'd estimate that 50-70% of the vendors were new to me. Admission cost $15 for adults. Parking is free (I was lucky to get a spot in the small lot but there was also free street parking). If you are in the market for getting some holiday gifts, or needing to get into the holiday spirit yourself, I really recommend visiting this particular artisan market. The venue is truly magical. I am attaching some photos but honestly, they don't do the building justice.

If you are a vintage person then this place and ofcourse it's membership is a must. As soon as I…read morelearnt about a membership option to enjoy this cozy mansion of good old days , I registered ( still waiting to hear back though but I am so excited after the tour of this property) It's beautiful. It's very warming. Staff is really really helpful and supportive. Small rooms for personal private meetings , in-house coffee service and a small library adds to its charm. It can be rented for weddings or photography or film shoot and the best part is those funds get used to maintain the house and the staff. Many different classes, events and games happen on regular basis for the club members.
