We love taking our crawling toddler to the FIG! It has tons of activities for him to explore - stacking, climbing, music, interactive lights, a play kitchen. We are super appreciative of the space on rainy days when we want to give him a change of scenery. Plus we often see groups doing birthday parties here, which sounds like fun. We LOVE the FIG! We have a membership because we go so often. There are so many unique activities for kids, and lots of room and supplies for imaginative play. We usually play once at each "station" and end up being there for a couple hours. New stations are sometimes added and others moved around, but some of our favorite features have been the vet clinic, the musical instruments, the farm section with a milkable cow, the arts and crafts room, the scarf wind tunnel, and the dark room with the interactive lights and feedback pad. And that's not even half of the stuff you can do there! Regarding the staff, they have been extremely kind and helpful any time I've asked a question or needed any assistance. We were visiting from out of town and I was looking for a place to burn off some toddler energy before a wedding. This place was perfect. So many options for the kids to play with, clean, great staff. And not expensive. We'll be back next time we're in town. read more

My family showed up at the Children's Museum on Prospect that is closed - and moved a block away on Flora St (there is a big orange statue outside the main entrance). The Children's Museum is small but it kept my 2 year old happy for a little over and hour (he would have played much longer if we hadn't dragged him away). Admission felt a little steep as we were just going to the Children's museum but the price included admission to the whole museum. ($10 adult/ $4.50 kids) read more

I would give this experience a "meh". The gallery seemed organized and clean enough, with basic children's gallery concepts, nothing extraordinary. We paid for parking plus the FIG cost and then lunch. Seemed expensive for the quality. We also noticed none of the workers there seemed friendly or engaged with the customers. They talked among themselves or sat behind a desk reading. The market & restaurant area hardly had any food/items in the gallery. And the painting area was so squished, everyone was crowded around one four-sided easel waiting for a turn to paint, which was right beside the popular sand table; the set-up of the room really restricted the flow. I felt obligated to leave a review after seeing two negative reviews that have really misrepresented the FIG. To address the detractors about unfriendly staff. I would argue that this is Bellingham; no one here is really all that friendly! But that factor aside, I have found the staff to be mostly warm and helpful. There was one instance with an employee who was running the music hour. She left some expensive looking maracas out with the rest of her musical instruments and then proceeded to admonish my son when he grabbed them and started tapping them on surfaces in an exploratory way, just like any other 2 year old boy would do. (Umm, probably shouldn't have expensive equipment lying around 2 year olds?) She also got visibly disappointed when she started strumming a slow tune on the guitar and the kids were having none of it, no one wanted to come sit and listen. I wanted to tell her to play to the audience: this was a room full of toddlers, not a crowd of 50 y/o women waiting for a Melissa Etheridge acoustic set. But I digress. This person aside, the staff is friendly and accommodating. As for the amenities. Again I'm baffled by the negative reviews. There are a ton of engaging, creative and interactive exhibits for the kiddos to play with, including a separate area for smaller babes and an entire arts and crafts room with a sensory box and a water color station. The museum also hosts several interactive sessions throughout the week, science, art, and music (Melissa Etheridge wannabe notwithstanding). I'm not really sure what the detractors were hoping for-- a mani/pedi bar? While I love Perch and Play just down the road, it can get a little too Lord of the Flies with the bigger kids and sometimes I just want a quieter place to let my tot run amok. Bottom line: this is a great place to bring your kiddos! read more

The new space is nothing like the experience we got from the former Children's Museum... We took the kids to the new space twice...couldn't get them to go back... It is simply too sterile to be a place of exploration and fun. read more
