Here is a review by a woman who had to evacuate Oroville during the flood: First of all, I apologize for the long post, and or any typo errors. Hello my fellow Oroville community on Facebook. I enjoy using this page for local updates and etc. I myself don't post much of anything, but today I would like to share something that my little family had encounter at a hotel we had stayed in over the evacuation this past week. Now, that I finally have a little bit of time to spare. As you all may already know during the evacuation Sunday night everything was so hectic along with finding a room to stay the night. Since by 7pm all hotels in Chico was pretty much completely booked out. My family was able to get two rooms at American Inn-thanks to a friend-on Esplanade in Chico. I was very desperate, for I have four little children-one a little over a week old newborn. My family and I were completely settled in around 10pm (my husband, kids and I stayed in room 116, while my in-laws them took room 111). I woke up a little right before 3am to feed my newborn (every 2-3 hrs) to find little brownish-red bugs crawling all over the bed sheets and under our pillows. Woke my husband up in a frantic and utter-disgust. We gathered our kids and personal items to our car. We remained in our vehicle for the rest of the night with the car running so our kids could stay warm. After we had our kids all settled in our car, which was around 4am. We did go to management to speak with them about the bed bugs in our room. Showed them pictures, but the husband refused to even look at it. He raised his hands up in a motion to silence us, while he went to the back of the office to grab his wife. They both came out and saw me speaking with another gentlemen who was debating about renting a room. For he had over heard me speaking with the husband-management-and had asked me if it was true. Showed the other guest pictures my husband and I had taken. He had taken off, while he thanked me. While this was happening the management came out (the husband went to grab the wife) and the man had aggressively asked me why did I speak to the other potential customers? Very upset at me they refused to give back our refund and told us it was pass a certain time frame for us to get our refund back. Let me remind you this was around 4am in the morning-Monday morning- February 13th. Just a few hours after we checked in. I had asked management what did he expect me to do? Lie to the other customers? When they clearly over-heard our conversation. Their response to me was, "It doesn't matter. You speak to no one. Doesn't matter if they talk to you." As upset as I was, I remain clam and walked back to my car where my babies were at. It was such an horrible experience for my family and I. Especially, during a crisis we all had to endure due to the evacuation and the problem with the dam. I believe we all just wanted a warm place to stay. Especially having little ones. I just wanted to share this with everyone so that no other family has to go through what we went through. Just in case Oroville has to evacuate again. Just so everyone know. Just the worst. They failed to provide the most basic necessity of a lodging establishment: a quiet place to sleep for the night. This motel is situated directly across the street from the Studio Inn Lounge, a self-described dive bar which plays very loud music into the wee hours. The neighboring guests could be heard entering and exiting their rooms, and their conversations may as well have been taking place in my room. I understand that the motel cannot do much to keep the bar quiet on a Saturday night, and people can come and go to and from their rooms as they please, but the motel could certainly shell out a few dollars for decent windows and proper sound insulation in the walls, roof, and along the doorways. Furthermore, I should not have to offer an extended explanation as to why I would like a fourth pillow in my room. I like two pillows, as does my partner--enough said. Moreover, the AC unit rattled away the entire first night. The second night, I removed the front cover and bent the metal grating until the rattling stopped, but that unfortunately did nothing to make the thermostat work. Rattling or not, I should be able to get the thing to operate below the mid 70s. I would like to have opened my window for some fresh air, but I thought that the missing screen might invite additional cockroaches into my room (I only found the one, and it was mostly dead). Additionally, the smell is atrocious. I would like to believe that the previous guest defied the smoking policy, but the place has the stench of an old smoker's house. The odor is in the furniture, the mattress, the bedspread--everything. Short of a complete renovation, I doubt much can be done on that front. As other reviewers have noted, the towels are paper thin, the management is less than genial, and flip flops may be advised when roaming the room or taking a shower. But those are things I can live with when paying bottom dollar for a weekend in a cheap motel. What I cannot abide, however, is noise. I reserved this hotel online and when I go there the hotel didn't want to commit to the online price. After a 12 hour drive I wasn't in the mode to argue so I checked in. The dresser was missing drawers and the TV didn't work. The door looked like it had been kicked in at some point. We decided not to stay and the woman at the counter when we checked out was extremely rude and argumentative. I am still working with the online company to get a refund because the hotel charged me for the entire reservation. read more

This is the worst managed hotel in Chico! Doreen at the front desk and Andy the mangager are both rude and unprofessional. Dodging phone calls and refusing to give their names when asked! They obviously dont care about reviews as all of the previous reviews are horrible! This place should be closed down! If the owner of this establishment cares at all about his/her business and reputation........they should fire their staff and redo the entire place! Really.......not representing Chico very well! I have a lot of family and friends in Chico and people who visit Chico...I am asking everyone I know to never go there and to recommend that no one go there! read more

Bed bugs attacked a newborn and family of evacuees. Yuck. No refund; rude and aggressive managers verbally attacked mother.

ALL THE AWFUL REVIEWS REFLECT OUR EXPERIENCE!! In chronological order: 1) the male manager and his adult son snarled at each other and couldn't /wouldn't (??) speak English to each other when they tried to put in my reservation from an online site, which they could not seem to get done. 2) they wouldn't go with me to the room, just gave me the key and waved in the general direction of the room 3) the male and female managers, man and wife, held a screaming match outside the office at each other. 4) the male manager AND the son snarled at me when I couldn't get the card key to work 5) they snarled at me again when I asked them to show me how to get the TV remote to work, because I could not. 6) the toilet HOWLED whenever myself or the wife flushed it 7) we stayed 2 nights, they brought new towels, but left them on the unmade bed, did NOT vacuum, did NOT empty the garbage, did NOT clean up garbage left by previous renters 8) the shower was dark with no light from the bathroom entering it 9) the bath fan turned but did not draw air/steam/odors out of the bathroom, 10) the bath had no plugs, the only wall plug in the entire room was next to the front door, no where near a mirror, so the wife could see while she dried her hair 11) The male manager told me NOT to bother them again, when I couldn't get the key card to work, after coming back from a restaurant. 12) one of the overhead light bulbs was burned out in the bedroom. 13) no plugs by the bedside to charge a phone, computer, etc. 14) no screens on the windows, and we had to open the window because the room smelled of mold when we came in, so the parking area was even noisier from the street as was our room . . 15) the refrigerator was clanging and shaking so much we just unplugged it 16) we would have just left, but they'd already run our card, and we were afraid they might try to ding us for who knows what!! BUT they are across the street from the best Indian restaurant I've ever eaten at, and it is run by the nicest people . . I had to argue with them to take my money when they tried to comp us desert for coming in the next night . . we settled on charging us more for the coffee, after I said I would not take no for an answer. read more

one star would be generous for this place it is filthy im here now and if i worked for the health department this place would be red tagged and shut down my sisters room had pee stains blood etc on her sheets they gave us clean sheets but they had no clean mattress pads or spreads the spread was stained with the same who knows what. when we asked for another spread they seemed anoyed and said they didnt have one the mattress was stained all the way around the bed bathrooms filthy. really people the only thing missing is the body under the bed but im to frightened to look and see if there is one. i cloroxed as much of the room as i could i tried to make other arrangements and was told everyplace was full as we drove through town there were vacancy signs like crazy but to late already paid for this nightmare. if the health department monitors these sites which obviously not or they would be closed. really this is my first visit to chico this place has given me and my family a very poor first impression chico should be ashamed that they have allowed this place to continue and they should pull the owners business license to operate. all the horrible reviews what a disgrace. i will work tirelessly to get the city to do something about this nobody should be subjected to this filth read more

Wow!!! This hotel is beyond bad... its Absolutely disgusting and the people are extremely rude!!! I am giving 1 star only cuz i HAVE to and its my only (lowest) option!!! They have bed bugs, roaches and mice/rats!!! They called the cops on me for having a few people in my room (4 people!!! That's including me and my fiance who were staying there) I couldnt believe it .. plus im bit up by bed bugs... never again... all bad.... read more

First and last time I will ever patron this establishment. It's the worst hotel/motel I've ever stayed. Terrible customer service! Owners of establishment live on premises and manage motel. They're incredibly rude and unhelpful. Owners complained about giving us clean towels and what we were given to use were thread bare. We registered and paid for all our guests and took 6 rooms of this establishment for 4 nights. Owners refused to give us enough towels for everyone to use. When I demanded she do so she provided barely enough and did so with a bad attitude. Stayed over our daughter's graduation from CSU, Chico. Would've left but everything in town was booked. AVOID STAYING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE ANGRY AND MISERABLE! read more

This hotel was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We booked it because it had one of the last rooms in the city, during the busiest time of the year, graduation. And I can see why it was the last hotel. The room was not swept or vacuumed, there were no hangers, no tv remote, no garbage pails, no clothes bar to even hang your clothes, and no door to the closet! There were large stains on the one chair in the room. The front desk staff was disorganized and disoriented, as if she had no clue what to do. Do yourself a favor and book far ahead, at one of the more reputable establishments. Otherwise, you're better off sleeping in your car. read more

This shithole doesn't even deserve one star!! I pulled back the bedspread to find pee stained sheets and black hairs my hair is blonde. To make matters worse there were pee stains all over the underside of the spread We were there to tour Chico state and there weren't other rooms to b had. My sink was filthy, mold on the ceiling more black hairs on the bathroom floor. I asked for. Clean sheets which I did get but he could not give me another spread because he said "they were full they didn't have another one" so all I had to cover myself was a sheet. The toilet was filthy. I will b calling the health department and post the pictures of this disgusting place! My room number was 104. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE A DIME! read more

Absolutely the worst night of sleep I have had in 8 months. The only think that was worthwhile is that the water pressure was great. The bed had "black hairs" in and on the sheets. So I slept in my sleeping bag. Then I found out there were bed bugs in the next room, some poor person was in there and discovered it. The tables had dirt or bug droppings on them. I will be contacting the health department. This place was disgusting. read more

It was disgusting. The room reeked of some disgusting odor. The owners/managers were abrupt and unwelcoming. Thankfully they did not allow service dogs. We forfeited the nights' rent we paid and traveled to a nearby town where we found a decent clean room. Would never recommend American Inn to anyone. I read more

If I could rate this motel negative stars I would. Just stayed here for graduation. The first thing I found was a hair on my pillow. When I asked them to change the sheets, I returned to another hair on another pillow. Scared to walk on the nasty carpet. Almost went across the street to buy my own sheets to put on the bed. Never saw a maid, had to empty my own trash can. Slept on my own shirt all weekend. They really need to step it up. Terrible! read more
