I recently had my hair highlighted at American hairlines. While the stylist was very pleasant and the facility lovely the highlight was less than adequate which leads me to write this less than pleasant review unfortunately. I did write a note privately on AH website but did not get a response. After two days the grays came back. After spending $145 for a highlight, this should NOT happen. I asked for a refund and have not heard back. I do not want to waste my time, gas, energy nor anything else by going back. Michelle Lasko is amazing !!! She listens to what you want and does and exceptional job doing it !! My hair is so pretty and healthy ! She is super sweet and quick ! American hairlines is also so cute , you can bring your pups ! The owner and stylist all bring their little dogs and it's the cutest ever ! I LOVE dogs ! I travel and not sure what to do without Michelle when I leave ! It's a little pricey but you get what you pay for and I'm ok with paying a little more to actually get what I have been wanting FOREVER ! I wish you could avoid giving any stars at all. This was the worst hair cutting experience I've ever had in my life & that's an understatement. I explicitly told both the woman on the phone who I booked with & the hairdresser that I haven't trusted anyone in 8 years besides my woman at home (in California) to do my hair. I asked for someone who was good with long hair.... I believe this terrible job was done by a woman named Jessica. The people here are rude and unprofessional & after I was quoted $60 on the phone & spent the whole haircut in tears they told me it was $90... even after I tried to speak to the manager who claims they would never have never said "$60" because it is "$60 and up." As if I would have ever booked had that been what I was told. I'm sorry but you're in f-ing BETHLEHEM, you obviously have NO right to even imagine charging that & should be ashamed of yourselves for thinking otherwise. This woman cut off over 8 inches of my hair without consulting me on the length AT ALL before taking it behind my head & "dry cutting" some of the "weight" off. If I knew I was going to lose that much hair that day I would have donated it. She blamed me for not being specific enough about what I wanted (after obviously seeing how much her sh-t job upset me)...I'm sorry, but if something isn't clear to you, ask your client to clarify. This happened last October, the attitudes & lack of professionalism I experienced that day still upset me. If you need to get your haircut in Bethlehem, try Eskandalo on the south side, they're polite, talented, fun, & inexpensive. THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE SPA ONLY I've gone to American Hairlines about a dozen times for various spa services -- some eyebrow waxing, about a half-dozen facials, and brought my fiance for a massage. The waxing is good, not amazing. They use Aveda products, so it smells good & is fairly gentle. My experiences have run the gamut from once getting to go back into one of the spa rooms (where you get facials, etc) just for my eyebrow wax (THAT was definitely worth the $20), to them apparently being so crowded that the esthetician had to sit me in a shampoo chair to wax my brows (INCREDIBLY uncomfortable). My fiance really enjoyed his message, and said the guy that did it was very nice (I forget his name). It was somewhat reasonably priced for your standard 30 minute message. The facials I have gotten have been very good. Once I had a very nice, but young esthetician who was pretty good - I have no complaints. But I didn't go back to her because I discovered Carmen, who is AMAZING. I don't know that she's more skilled in a technical sense, but she's fantastic at figuring out what is best for your skin on the first shot. The first girl I saw did your pretty standard facial, but I came out of a facial with Carmen looking like a million bucks -- she instantly figured out the right products, process, etc to make my skin look great, and that is a talent (I don't want to have to come back multiple times and spend hundreds of dollars before they figure out what works for me, by trial and error). My only complaint is the price.... facials are $100 & up (and I mean way up), which is very steep for Bethlehem, and even other Aveda spas in the area are cheaper (just in terms of comparing apples to apples). (Caveat: I have never gotten a haircut here - this opinion is based solely on observation) As for the hairstylists.... honestly, in all of the time I've sat in their lobby area waiting for other appointments, I've never seen someone walk out with a haircut that made me think anything other than "meh". They're simply lacking style. And for $80+ for women's cuts, I'd expect MUCH higher calibre. Frankly, it seems like they're just charging extra for the funky ambience (which, I will admit, I like). I used to pay $80+ for cuts at salons in Washington D.C., so I'm not unwilling to pay for a good haircut, it's just not worth it at American Hairlines. For my hair, I head up the street to Lux Salon, which is far more affordable (and at least as good quality). read more

It was my first time here. My girlfriend had recommended someone who she went to who she said was good with long hair. The stylist was sweet and I told her about my horror stories with other stylists cutting off way more than I asked ( I had super long hair down to my butt in the back) I asked her to please not chop it off to keep the length put in a couple of layers. She said she would. I was in shock when I saw the finished result. The cut itself was cute but it's so short. I measured when I got home and 8 inches are gone off the back. It barley touches my bra strap. I don't think people understand how upsetting it is to not be heard or listened to. Girls with long hair just beware if you want a couple inches off with some layers. It will take a couple years to get the length back for me. This has now turned into my worse horror story. Nice hairstylist, nice cut but way too short. read more

I have seen Stephen since I started going here (2+ years now) and I have never had anything less than a great experience. Everyone here is super friendly, and they are great with juggling my schedule (which often changes last-second). The atmosphere is fantastic- the owners do a phenomenal job with decorating, and there are always dogs roaming about, which is very comforting. I NEVER have to wait for an appointment, I call or stop in and it's done. Everyone works together, free wifi, beverages, always someone to chat with, entertaining and not stuffy but fun. I have had my regular cuts and colors done as well as 3 special event hairstyles. My wedding hair was PERFECT. Dru and his girls helped make my headpiece, treated my 4yr old nieces like princesses and made my step daughter look amazing. I became a client after my sister who was visiting from California walked in, met Dru who talked to her about her hair and in turn colored it and styled it. I had a consultation a few weeks before the big day Brittany was more than flexible and understanding of my uncertainty. She kept changing things until we got it right! Then she undid my hair and fixed it nice so that when I went out that night everyone didn't see my wedding hair! I had a spray tan a few days before the wedding and there is something about standing practically naked in front of a stranger and feeling completely comfortable- that takes talents and complete professionalism! Went to Drew for about 2 years, and although he gave a great haircut/coloring, he was very condescending . He wasn't at first, but each time he would tell me things like' 'you look very tired,', you should shape your eyebrows differently". I went in and asked for a Bradley Cooper inspired haircut. I left with looking like the love child of Posh Spice and Meatloaf. The owners seem to be really talented and gracious with their guests. I watched David, one owner give this guy the most meticulous fade while I was there. Also after my girlfriends hair was ruined by having unsolicited bangs forced on her, the other owner, Dru was very accommodating to her and did everything he could to salvage the cut. But despite the owner's talents and friendly dispositions, this salon is made up out of a diverse array of stylists who seem to be in desperate need of continued education, both in how they cut and style hair, and how they communicate with clients. The stylist I went to was friendly and I never had any problems. Why only a 3? First time to American Hairlines on March 8, 2014. I recently moved from California and have always went to an Aveda salon out in California. They were able to get me and my mom in the next day. I had read previous reviews on this place, especially pertaining one hair dresser (Daniel). So when I found out I had him, I was a bit scared. But I was wrong. He is amazing! He is spunky and fabulous. Definitely made my hair appt worth it. I came in wanting a lavender color and he was afraid it was like a Kelly Osborne color but I told him HECK NO! I wanted a super light lavender color with my blonde hair. He was awesome. He fixed my roots up first then toned my hair with the purple and Its different. It's not exactly what I wanted as far as color goes but he said I could come in and get it redone. I'm going to wait and see. He also gave me a little gift too to help with the color. He said if it's not as purple as I would like I can come in 2 weeks and he could do a shade darker. So we'll see how I like this first. Daniel is great character. Update: one week later after using the goldwell soft color 4 times this week, my hair is still not what I wanted. The color fades the next day. I must say I am a person who can't decide how I want my hair done,afraid to make changes to the long hair I have for sooooo long. I have had several stylist from there do more so what they want, I couldn't be happier with the change! They did for me what I didn't have the guts to do for myself. They shaped my hair for my face leaving me with a up to date look. I love the place and it may be a little more expensive then what some people are use to, but it isn't Holiday Hair either. However to each is own. But there is no place in the Valley that has a gym,salon,massage and clothing store in one. You can also spray tan. so u get what u pay for I guess. You can ask who works with long/short hair. There is a front desk girl named Lisa she will guide you, she has been there for a while and knows who works best for what look u r looking for. I was also charged for a service I did but authorize. I went in for an updo for a wedding and was told I needed to get my make up done. When I refused to get it done I was told I would be charged for the service because I cancelled the appointment. The thing is I never made an appointment and when I explained that the salon manager, Meghan, wasn't having any of it. The customer is never right and is often deceived. Horrible timing on appointments to say the least.. took my little Nieces here randomly for a second try(took them to Waffle House) and was the worst I ever seen. New to the area and asked a friend where the BEST spa was to take my mom for her 70th birthday. She said American Hairlines was the best place. We booked a custom spa package and it was lovely. I highly recommend the spa services here--I wouldn't go anywhere else. Also, they have a gorgeous selection of boutique clothing in the lobby. Beautiful decor in the salon and extremely relaxing and inviting atmosphere and decor in the spa. My favorite was the facial with Whitney. My mom's favorite was the massage with Rick. I went to AH without an appointment wanting pedicures altogether. They were so nice and accommodated us after a short wait. We had a private room for the 3 of us and the technicians who did our nails were so friendly and fun! The 3 of us are also huge animal lovers and so we enjoyed the fabulous salon environment which allows the employees to bring their dogs to work. We also appreciated the offer for a drink while we were there as well. IT is a large salon and is open, fun and eclectic! I would highly recommend especially for special occasions. read more

I have had all family members get their hair cut here; however I have only seen Greg. He has perfectly colored my hair several times including crazy colors to blond highlights. I've gotten numerous compliments on my hair colors. He also has done keratin treatments which are worth the money. My hair has been healthier ever since! My husband will only go to him and Greg spends time with you. He was perfect and patient with my children as well! Went to get my nails done for my sorority recruitment this past weekend, I went on Tuesday of last week because that's when i had time in my schedule to get them done. By Thursday I woke up and the gel was already peeling off without even touching it by Friday before I even get to start the recruitment process all the polish peeled off. I have been going to American now for some time and I used to like it. I used to leave there loving my hair until recently. I will not mention the stylists name, but I will say that last week I was there to get some color and I left there very disappointed with my hair color as well as my haircut! He did only what HE wanted to and didn't listen to what I wanted. Now I am stuck with this very dark color for another month as I am trying to get my hair healthy. In addition, the prices are a lot higher than anyone else in the area. I don't mind paying for good service, but I expect it to be top notch when paying that amount! I had been going here for about a year. What started as as good, but expensive and very time consuming, got horrible. The more I went in the more my hairdresser kept talking to me about his personal problems and not paying attention to what he was doing. He would try new relaxer techniques on me he just learned and when they didn't work I had to pay $200 to get it re done. He didn't listen to what I said about how I wanted my hair. He was just an airhead who would spend hours and hours doing what could have been done better, faster, and less expensive elsewhere. When I tried contacting the owner David about being charged to correct an error my hairdresser admitted and laughed off (spent $200x2 = $400 on my hair in a 30 day period) David didnt get back to me. It is now 2 months later, and the owner of this business has yet to return my calls, or my husband's calls. The rep below mentions they tried to contact me via phone- that is an absolute falsehood. I was never contacted in any way other than email, after I sent one in, period. I was in shock at the time, I was frantic to get home and wash my hair to see what was really going on- trying not to freak out..... I have to ask- what is the difference if I caused a scene there in person, or called the next day? Does that invalidate my dismay? Were they going to glue my hair back on???? The fact remains that I has my hair horribly hacked off, I was in total shock and just wanted to drive the 1.5 hours home to wash it. I am NOT interested in driving 1.5 hours back to have someone there " look at it." I am not interested in glue in extensions which break my hair. Period. All we wanted was a phone call, and they refused. I would like to see the phone records of the phone calls supposedly placed to me- I guarantee there are none, where I can show no less than 6 calls to them on my phone records. Meanwhile, I was offered a WIG or extensions via email, was asked to take down my review, and a refund was offered to my friend who paid for this disaster. ( How will giving my friend her money back help my destroyed head of hair I wonder? ) When I finally stated, via email, that I would accept the extensions, but that I still want a phone call, and an explanation from the stylist as to why he did this, I never heard from the owner again. Finally my husband had it , and called and left many messages to no avail. As a business owner, the owner should have manned up and taken responsibility for his employee's actions and picked up the phone and called us back. And the rote formulaic post by the office manager of "we strive to, we pride ourselves in- blah blah blah- is ridiculous. Try it somewhere else. Anyone who has cultivated a difficult head of hair for over 20 years to get it to the point that it is easy to work with, past the shoulder, and goes in for a trim and comes out with a short hacked afro, is going to know what I am talking about. The only reason I came to this salon was for Jeff. If anyone had the pleasure of working with him, you knew he was a true artist. Unfortunately, he left and I had to settle on another stylist, Daniel. He is the RUDEST, most OBNOXIOUS man I have ever come into contact with and I will never go back. I tried to make small talk with him but he was snotty & made me feel uncomfortable. To make matters worse, I asked for 1in off & he chopped off 3in! He is absolutely horrible; never get your hair done by him. I am also disappointed in the level of customer service the salon has to offer. I have to call at least 2-3 times before someone actually picks up the phone & I find that to be ridiculous. I noticed that someone else complained about that on facebook not long ago & the response the owner gave was absurd. After tip, your haircut will cost you approx $85. Patrons deserve to be treated with respect & you will not find it here. Recently, I was fortunate enough to find a fabulous new & trendy place (much like the other yelpers on here). Go to Eskandalo Hair on 4th st & ask for Phee. Simply put, she is AMAZING!!!!!! Everyone that works there is great. You can walk in with bad hair & they will fix it for you.
