I'd like to give -5 stars. Let me start by saying that I have gone to this salon since I was a teenager in 2004. On March 30th, I had an appointment with a hairdresser at this salon that I've never gone to before. My hair was ginger and a few inches below shoulder-length with some uneven parts toward the right side by my ear, due to growing in after a bleach break-off in August 2020. My hair was not significantly damaged, which is important to note. I asked for chocolate brown hair and a shoulder-length cut. I showed the hairstylist the reference photo I had and then agreed on the level of brown I'd like to go to. While she applied the dye to my hair, she mentioned that she added "violet" into the mix for undertones. I was confused but she assured me it'd be fine, so we continued. During the haircut, I told her shoulder-length was where I'd like to go. Because of the shorter pieces on the right side of my hair, she insisted that the hair should be cut to the nape of the neck. I begrudgingly agreed, thinking that the length wouldn't be horrible and that all my hair would at least be somewhat even. My hair was cut while wet and then she made a comment that I have "different lengths of hair" throughout my head. I agreed that I had different lengths, but I specifically told her not to touch those pieces and to just give me one length, as to allow those pieces to catch up and be trimmed in the future. She then began to hack away at pieces on the top of my head, and I became anxious and scared because of how short it was looking. Then, she began cutting off what she considered to be "damaged" pieces and I started to cry. I cried for about ten minutes. Not once did she stop or ask me why I was upset. Instead, she insisted that my hair was so damaged, she absolutely had to cut it off. At the end of the haircut, my hair was blow dried and then I had a complete panic attack. My hair color looked maroon and actually purple at the roots, and the haircut looked like a cross between a mullet and a pixie. I was horrified and said flat out that I hated it. While crying, the hairstylist seemed more concerned with selling me product than actually caring. I went home hysterical and couldn't look in the mirror because I felt ugly. I also received very negative criticism from family and close friends, all of which were honest about how awful the haircut was. Like I said, it was choppy, uneven, and way too short. I called the salon that night, furious, and told the receptionist my predicament. She was sympathetic and said she would pass along the information. I didn't hear anything the next day, so I called again. I eventually received a call back from the owner, who said she'd "fix it." I went back on March 31st and the owner personally said she would take care of it. I told her how much I hated the hair color and that the haircut made me feel hideous. I told her my self-confidence was ruined and that I never told the hairdresser to cut it that short or to give me that particular hairstyle. Immediately, the owner told me, "I spoke with [the hairstylist] and she said she cut it that way because it was so damaged." There are so many things wrong with that. #1, I did NOT ASK for her to cut my hair that short, I do not care how damaged my hair looked, as you do not start hacking away at pieces that you think shouldn't be there without asking me first. #2, my hair was not damaged to the degree that Artisan's wants you to think it is. My hair has never snapped off while brushing it, nor has it ever melted away after washing it with shampoo. So, Artisan's way of fixing my hair included washing my hair to fade the hair dye (seriously), and then giving me a protein treatment. The owner asked, "So what was your thought process with dyeing your own hair?" Again, we were back to putting the blame on me entirely because my hair was previously dyed. I told her that dyeing my own hair in the past has nothing to do with the haircut her employee gave me. The owner then put in the protein treatment and gave me a blow-out that looked like an old lady bouffant, and I began to cry again. The owner said, "I know, I know. As women, why do we do the things we do to our hair?" (This was in reference to my previous dye job, yet again). I raised my voice and said that I didn't do this to my hair - her employee did. The owner then said, "She told me she talked with you every step of the way." I very adamantly told her she was wrong and that the hairdresser did not talk with me at all during this process. So, I left still crying and was given a refund for the cut only (the hair color looked as it had previously did, just faded a bit). Do not go to this salon unless you're seeing Peggy for curly hair or Iris for everything else. I ended up having to get my hair dyed almost black and purchased $2,000 worth of extensions from another salon. Artisan's makes excuses for crappy service/work and does not take responsibility for any mistakes. read more

Awful version of Ouidad. Go to NYC. I was getting a sad version Ouidad cut here for while and I eventually got tired of spending so much for a "less than" version so I tried to make an appointment with the stylist for a non-Ouidad cut. Well she had something of a hissy fit over the whole thing and didn't touch my hair and charge me anyway so in all honesty I will never ever ever go back again and I think anybody looking for curl specialty should just get a ticket with trans bridge and go into New York City for the day. You will look fabulous there, skip this place. read more

I get my hair cut here, and they always do a great job. Not only do they listen to what I ask for, but they also make useful appropriate suggestions. I have short hair, and cut and full highlight with multiple colors was around 90, which I think is pretty reasonable compared with some ridonkulous places I have been before. They use Bumble and Bumble products, which I love, and I was also introduced to a new (I think) line called Enjoy. Products have been suggested and described, but nobody has ever pushed a single product on me. I did want to try one of them, and she was more than happy to provide me with a sample - I thought that was really cool. I have never been to a salon where they provided a sample. Receptionist is always friendly and never hurries me along. read more

Christine cut my hair for over 15 years and I constantly received compliments. She's fun, edgy, up on the new style trends yet actually LISTENS when I tell her where I'm nervous. I recommend her as she really cares about all customer needs. read more

Wife went and they did not honor her gift certificates, none had expiration dates. They told her that they were good over the phone but when it was time to pay, no good. She said the experience was great and staff was very nice but it was disheartening when they denied her. read more

GO TO IRIS!!!! Iris is the best there is, for cut & color! vary sweet and helpful! The Ambiance is very comfortable and cozy. Great products! read more

Went here over a year ago seeking a place to bring my wedding party. It was just aweful. The place is shabby in appearance, especially for the prices you pay. They did a decent job on my nails, but totally mutilated my hair. It was cut completely unevenly. Additionally, they were very salesy and tried to push not one but at least half a dozen products on me. Don't go here. read more

I went here a few years ago and saw a "junior" stylist. Just wanted a color. My hair turned out SO dark especially the ends. And the color was so flat. When I called to complain I was told that stylist no longer was there but I could come in to see another. I came in and she fixed it, with no discount. To me, if your stylist messes up, you need to correct on your dime. I did go back for a haircut and it was the last time. Not one layer was cut in (even though we discussed) and the next day after I washed and dried, I looked like a mushroom. It was terrible. I went to a chain hair cut place and had it fixed. Wouldn't recommend especially for the money. read more

I've been going here for a year. They're super friendly and prifessional. I've loved all my cuts/styles. Iris is my favorite stylist. They have a lovely interior with free drinks while you wait. Very relaxing. The owner works alongside everyone else and is quite congenial. Cute little place. read more

Great haircut for a dude who is incredibly inarticulate to how he wants his hair dealt with, how long it should be, etc. Also, the scalp massage was amazing. I highly recommend Iris. In addition to being talented, she has a really lovely personality. And yes, she's really quite pretty -- though I refrained from trying to pick her up, because that'd be weird. read more

Love artisans, they always make my hair look great. Wether it was just a trim or for my prom. But I guess it differs from who you have. Place is clean and staff is friendly. read more

Came here for the first time for highlights and a haircut. The hairdresser acted annoyed that I wanted a full head of highlights even though when I made the appointment I told them what I wanted done. She didn't even talk to me the entire time and had a scowl on her face. Once she was done with my color and haircut she passed me off to a young girl to dry my hair. I have very thick long hair and the girl did not dry my hair all the way through. I had to tell her three times that my hair was still damp and it needed to be dried all the way. I explained to her that my gets frizzy if it air dries so it but she didn't care. Eventually I get fed up and left. I ended up drying my hair at home. The last frustrating piece is that they do not allow you to put tip on your credit card. I had to walk down the street to an atm where I could get money out to tip the woman who honestly didn't deserve it. They should post this information on their website so patrons come prepared. Needless to say I have never returned. Never paying that much for someone to be pissed about what I want done, be unfriendly, and not dry my hair! read more

I agree with a previous reviewer that your service will vary depending on who you are working with. From my experience, Chrissy is a great hair stylist and the main two women who do nails are both very good. Front desk staff is always fine, and usually quite friendly. They use great products across the board. In terms of decor, I wouldn't say it is the sleekest or fanciest, but I don't think it is that terrible -- I'm not living there, just getting my hair done. read more

I have been going here for the last couple of years. Iris is a fabulous hair stylist! She knows exactly what to do with my hair! She is extremely professional, sweet and really cares about her customers and their hair. They have a lovely waiting area- supplied with water, coffee and soda. The salon is clean and quant. Definitely a hidden nook in downtown Emmaus. Ask for Iris when you go- you won't be disappointed! read more

I love this place. Kim is a color genius who successfully eradicated years of drab store-bought badly applied box color. I used to avoid mirrors- not anymore! The staff is friendly, the place is clean and well ventilated (I hate salons that smell like burnt hair) and they are an easy going bunch. read more

I have been going to Artisans for over 10 years. I have curly hair and I would not allow anyone else to touch it but them. I either go to Peggy or Iris. They are both awesome!! All of the hairstylists are great. I also get my pedicures, manicures and facials there. The crew are super friendly and the owners are very personable. I would highly recommend them. read more

This place is amazing !! Friendly, talented woman who make you feel special and fabulous!! Iris and Peggy are awesome with curly hair.

I only go here b/c my hair stylist works here. Service is decent. People at the front desk are friendly as they should be. Products are great. Bumble& Bumble. The only thing I think is weird is the decor. Outdated, unfinished, cheap, and tacky. I think they put up Vogue frames just to "chic it up" a bit. Not working. read more
