I'm just gonna make this very short. I use this company before twice. I paid with my credit card over $1400 this time and I ordered my own through Fuel Snap. They said they'll deliver my order yesterday. I waited all day no phone call no delivery nothing when I called. I got a nasty woman on the phone and says well your order cancel that's why no explanation at all. I don't want do business with these people. I found another company who delivered my oil and charge me less and stick my tank as well. read more

Had my oil tank filled today by American Fuels, and they state that a $100 fee is applied if fillup is less than 150 gallons. They 'filled' my tank, but actually they only filled it less than 3/4 of the tank. Their 'fillup' was 147.8 gallons, and they charged my $100 fee. I reached out to Customer Service Mgr that tank was only 3/4 filled up, and he rudely would not listen to me. Their 'fillup' process and penalty fee is totally unethical. read more

I have been using the company since at least 2018. I have an underground tank so I never know how much left. I ordered their minimum of 150 gallons, and the tank only took 94 gallons. I asked them to waive the extra $50.00 as I never know if it will take the 150 - they refused. I can't recommend them. there are better options out there. read more

I have been very happy with American Fuels! I have ordered my heating oil through them for a few years, and yesterday I had them do a tune up on my furnace. Oil delivery: I love that I can check oil prices, schedule a delivery, and pay directly through their website. I think delivery has always been within 48 hrs of the request. I have never run out of oil, so I haven't needed it any quicker than that. As far as I can tell, they usually have the best price on heating oil as well. Furnace tune-up: I think I probably could have scheduled this online, but I wanted to talk to a person since this is the first appointment I made with them, and I had some questions. They only make appointments for Tuesdays and Thursdays, with 2 appointment slots open a day (morning and afternoon). They were able to get me in for the following week. I got a call from the technician Todd, asking if he could drop by early because of a cancellation, but unfortunately I was at work, so I couldn't. I got home about 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment, and he was already there. He was very professional and seemed very knowledgeable. I just had a brand new furnace installed last year (thanks home warranty!), so this was the first time it was serviced. Todd let me know the furnace was actually really clean since it was so new, and let me know that I would probably be good to get it cleaned every other year for a while. Also, while he was in the basement he noticed that my hot water heater could use a valve to divert the steam off the safety pressure release downward (I'm sure this has a name, I'm just blanking on it right now). I think what I really appreciated most was his honesty and lack of high pressure sales tactics. No one tried to up sell me on a service plan at any point. Since I just got a tune up and not a service plan, the price was about $50 less than the quoted price of the company I used last year (that experience will be in another review I think...I was not pleased). They answer the phone every time, are pleasant, dependable, and actually call you back if you leave a message. And they aren't condescending like some of the pre-buy full service fuel places in the local area. I could not possibly be happier with a fuel oil company, I personally use them to deliver on-demand, I am the type of person that watches fuel prices and the level in my tank. Their price has always been the best in my local area, so I no longer even call around. The deal was sealed when I found out there was no second higher price for credit card usage. After having 3 different fuel oil companies in since 2012, this one has been dependable and perfectly on time for the last 2 years. I intend to continue using them as long as the current level of service continues. I also really appreciate the @ delivery time print outs and the level of detail. read more

I ran out of oil due to a serious cold snap, and have a 2 year old child and a geriatric pup at home, so this is no small problem. I arrived home from work and the temperature in my house was 40-45 degrees and there were pipes frozen. I contacted my regular provider, but he was unable to assist me because of a back-log of deliveries. After calling around to many area companies, I contacted American. Even though I was not a customer of theirs, after hearing my plight, they made room for me on the schedule and were actually at my home an hour after I called. The driver(I'm sorry, I don't know his name) was prompt and pleasant, even ensuring that I was able to restart the heater before he left. American should be proud of him, as he is exemplary of what they should expect the face of their company to be. American has earned itself a customer for life. Thank you! read more

Because of their lack of knowledge of heat pump systems, I have spent nearly $500 on three thermostats. The burner failed and their tech instructed me to replace the thermostat with one he specified. It didn't fix the problem. He then discovered it was caused by a loose wire to the igniter. I left the new thermostat in place and gave the original one away. The heat pump provider just performed their second winter inspection (I've had the system for 3 years). He asked why I'd changed the thermostat. I explained. He said the replacement thermostat causes both the heat pump and the oil burner to run at the same time, likely leading to the coils burning out. So I have now replaced thermostat #2 with a replica of the original thermostat. Beyond that, a few weeks ago it looked like the basement oil tank was leaking. I set an appointment with the tech. He didn't show. Later, I received a voice mail saying he was attending an emergency. I never heard from him again. So it seems they are both technically un-knowledgeable and unreliable with their appointments. The oil they deliver seems to be ok. read more

These guys have the best prices in the area. If that weren't enough their customer service is fantastic. We once (very) nearly ran out of heat with a full house with guests on Christmas Eve. They came out and made a delivery without any problem at all. I also use them for my yearly tune up, again very reasonably priced.
