My experience with this company wasn't fantastic. They did a residential job for me in May, but failed to complete the work. It took another 6 months for them to finalize the job. Over that 6 months I received 8 calls from the office staff asking for final payment (very 1900's, they seem allergic to text or email). In each case I would tell them that I was waiting for them to finish the job and would send them photos detailing the remaining work. Then I wouldn't hear from them for weeks, until they called yet again to ask for payment, always surprised that the job hadn't been completed, and again asking for more photos. So all-in-all it wasn't a positive experience. I would say that the guys who did the actual tree work were very easy to work with, I found them to be both professional and friendly! The office staff wasn't easy to deal with; their sole focus seemed to be on pestering me for final payment with little interest in actually completing the job. Were I only reviewing the guys who do the actual tree work, I'd give them 5 stars. read more

Do not use this company. They crossed a property line without permission and cut down major parts of my tree without even knocking on the door to ask! When I reached out to them, they ignored my requests for even a conversation about what happened, to let me show them the property line, nor did they answer the question of why they couldn't come to knock on my door before making cuts on my tree. American Climbers removed several trees from my property today. I was an incredibly involved job: when the property was built 2 years ago, one particular tree was kept on the property despite being mere feet from the foundation, and its branches were 100% hanging over the roof, causing shingle damage and sleepless nights (acorns). American Climbers needed to cut this and another tree down in segments, and then pull the pieces OVER the roof to be disposed of. As a homeowner, this was definitely the most nerve-wracking experience thus far! Fortunately they did a fantastic job and cleaned up after themselves (used a leafblower to remove debris). They did need to reschedule twice (once due to their largest crane being in the shop and another due to the ice storm), but every single time I called with a question (scheduling or otherwise), they picked up immediately and were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I got quotes from many different companies, and based on the combination of reputation, price, availability, and crane ownership (I wanted someone who owned these cranes, since that means they do these types of jobs frequently), American Climbers came out on top. I had these guys out for an estimate back in November of 2020. They came and the guy seemed like a good guy and gave me an estimate for pruning a large tree in my back yard, I accepted it right then and there. He told me they would contact me with a date to do the job. I didnt hear from them so I called them the first week in December, and asked them for a date. The woman on the phone told me that I had a small job and they planned on coming when they had an opening late in the day sometime. Here it is almost April and I never heard back from them. The office communication with customers is terrible. It seems to be a theme with most of the bad reviews. It's a shame because they do have a lot of good reviews, but they are on larger jobs. The person walked me through the process and what they plan on doing, which was very helpful. Their prices were reasonable and lower than some other places I had shopped around. Scheduled them to come out and they brought in their whole crew. Did a fantastic job and did exactly what they said they were going to do based on what was written on the quote. Updated review: After the no-show, I was told by an office worker that they were training someone new who did not know how to move scheduled appointments from their computer system to John's mobile device. Somehow he never knew about our appointment. They rescheduled at a time that I could make after work and John was very knowledgeable and thorough with his estimate. I especially liked that he asked what our priorities were for our yard instead of just telling us what he would recommend. The team came out 3 weeks later to trim many trees and remove one. The work they did was excellent. The part that I appreciated most was how well they cleaned up the yard when they were done. I would definitely hire them again (and probably will when the next round of tree removals fits into our budget). Original review: John never showed up for our scheduled appointment. This, after I took 1/2 a vacation day from work because they told me they could not accommodate my work schedule with any appointments after 1pm. Totally irritated. read more

The good: Their pricing is very reasonable. They did a good job with the actual tree removal itself. The stump they left is nice and even and looks good. Their demeanor was consistently friendly and polite. The bad (AKA everything else and why they earned a two-star rating): After waiting a month and a half for our appointment, they cancelled on us day-of; while frustrating, things happen. I called them halfway through the day when no one had showed up and the person I talked to told me he had my information right in front of him and was about to call. He told me it was up in the air if they would be able to come by due to their previous job taking longer than expected and that he would call me back (he didn't call back so we had to call again the next day). He asked me if I would prefer a solid date or to have an appointment squeezed in as soon as possible and I said as soon as possible which I'm almost certain we had already told them a month and a half prior. They must have had time a week later as they showed up around noon. They didn't call ahead which was not a huge deal but would have been a nice courtesy. Because we had no idea when they would be coming, our tomato plants in planters were still on our deck. They snapped some branches off of a couple of them while working on the tree on our deck and never told us. They also seriously flattened the small yet very obvious, seemingly easily avoidable flower bed in our front yard. They left a few empty and partially drank plastic drink containers in our yard and left our gate on the far side of the house wide open (which I luckily noticed before letting our dogs out or it could have ended very badly!) They left a chainsaw in our back yard and a pack of cigarettes on our deck table. Also, our chickens were freaked out by the noisy equipment and new people (understandably so) so they were making distressed vocalizations, and I heard one of the employees continuously mocking/mimicking them--not a big deal but it struck me as unprofessional and was slightly upsetting as an animal lover. However, the biggest issue was that they left NO firewood at all! We had been very specific, repeatedly, that we wanted it (as we have a fireplace as well as a fire pit), and they had agreed that it would be left as firewood repeatedly. It is specified on the original quote form they gave us and we also reminded them when we called after our original appointment was cancelled and they assured us that the tree would be cut into firewood and left with us. When we called them after we realized there was no firewood anywhere, instead of apologizing or offering some sort of solution to make things right, they lied outright and said that when I had talked to them in-person the day it was removed that I had told them to take everything away. I never said ANYTHING even remotely of the sort--I merely told them that I was sorry I couldn't get to the door in time when they knocked and that I was inside in case they needed anything. NOTHING was mentioned about "please do not leave any firewood behind as was agreed upon repeatedly." A mature maple that would have made excellent firewood, half of which had already been dead for months and was nice and dry, is gone, wasted, and now we have no wood at all to use in our fire pit. While I am grateful to finally have the tree removed, I would not use American Climbers again if I had any other choice and I would not recommend them to anyone. Their actions range from slightly unprofessional to actively dishonest. If for some reason you must use them, pray you are home when they come by and be VERY SPECIFIC with what you want THE DAY OF the work or prepare for disappointment. Edit: We discovered that they moved a small, heavy bin from our lawn INTO OUR GARDEN BED, directly on top of a morning glory planted there, severing the vine at its base. More importantly, they dumped a huge pile of wood chips from our tree in the woods right next to our front lawn. Horrible treatment of our property, I will do everything in my power to actively steer our friends and family away from this business! read more

I was totally amazed at the crew that showed up to remove a 75' birch behind my house. They used a 65 ton crane and picked the whole tree up and carried it over my house, pool and solar panels. They cleaned up the whole area and were in and out in 55 minutes (including setting up and taking down the crane. The whole operation was well choreographed. Very pleased! read more

I had called two other tree services for a job. Both came out, gave estimates, were hired, then both ghosted me. So... going in to the meeting with American Climbers, the bar was low; just answer the phone and show up. The guy came out, and was upfront and honest; the job was difficult and the other two underbid and scared themselves away. I hired him. The office called back multiple times, was able to squeeze us in (we had a time crunch), and they did the job today. It is a real pleasure to watch people who are very good at what they do make a tough job look easy. Trees were on a hill, close to the house, and not reachable by a lift. I am shocked no one has posted about American Climbers yet. We had a huge 40-foot tall pine tree in our back yard that dried out during the summer. American Climbers took care of it in less than 5 hours! Pro: -- very professional service, these folks have been in business for over 15 years and know exactly how to handle the work -- prompt service -- they prioritize emergency efforts (where there is risk to property) -- they provided an estimate, explained how they think they will be able to do the work (potential risk to any surrounding objects and landscaping) -- coupons in the local "coupon pack" (the thick envelope that the local businesses send to all households) -- very fast service, thanks to the gear that they bring (massive chipper, bob cat, and flat bed truck with a crane to load up the wood) -- sprinkler repair service (if you have one and it is damaged in the process) -- nice people Con: -- the only thing I wish they had done better was to warn me when they were about to drop the main section of the tree trunk -- it made a horrific thud, I thought it had landed on the house -- for low risk services it may be inconvenient to a customer to have to wait until a couple of days before their appointment for a confirmation I shopped around for this service, and other places were quoting similar prices, for 3-4 weeks out, and more time to take care of the job. We will soon be calling American Climbers again for what may be the 5th or 6th time in less than four years. We're very satisfied with them on every count, and we also feel their pricing is very fair. We initially asked them to clear a large portion of our backyard that was overgrown with vines and weeds. It was so bad we actually learned after the fact that we had two full-grown pine trees underneath that we never saw before !! But they also did the pruning across our entire property as part of that job, cut a large branch from a tree into 18-inch segments so I could split it for firewood, and much more. I was amazed at the amount of work they did for the price, and they left our property spotless. It was a total transformation for our backyard. We've since hired them for annual tree pruning and had two trees removed plus stump grinding. Every time, the job they do is visible only by the improvement in appearance. In other words, where we had trees removed, it was as if those trees were never there (except for us having to plant some new grass, of course). The home we purchased had many large, old overgrown trees that were keeping the house dark and the cedar siding wet & rotted. We identified the trees we thought were most problematic and had 3 estimates done for the work. 2 companies came recommended by neighbors/friends and American Climbers was chosen from a sign in a local yard. We chose American Climbers because rather than focusing on a specific numbers of trees to remove, their man recommended having the crew for the day to "focus on increasing sunlight and airflow around the house." In comparison of all three estimates, they offered the most comprehensive service for the price. We elected to wait until spring for the stump grinding; their price for that and some additional work was great as well. We were thrilled with their work (there wasn't much damage to our lawn and you could hardly tell they had been there except for the missing trees) and 8 months later, the siding is much dryer, we get an incredible amount of sunlight and there are many fewer bugs in the house. We had a 70 foot pine tree looming over our house, and American Climbers got rid of it over the course of one morning. They showed up promptly, got the job done, and the scary tree was no more. I chose them because they had sent flyers to my neighborhood in Natick, I might not have found them otherwise. They had a winter promotion which provided me with a quote that was better than other tree removers. Later in the year, I was cleaning up the yard and noticed there was still some stump buried deep beneath the ground. American Climbers came by that same week and ground down the remains, no questions asked. And as a previous reviewer mentioned, yes the process is pretty cool to watch. We had a great experience with these guys. We had a complex job of removing several large trees very close to our house on a confined lot, as well as stump grinding. At first, we got a bunch of quotes from other arborists that ranged from expensive to crazy expensive. John from American Climbers was our project manager and gave us a very reasonable estimate for the same work, and I'm confident the quality was as good if not better as the other guys. There were no surprise expenses. They even came back several times to finish some stuff that got missed on the first day without any questions asked. They worked with us in expediting our service date to coincide with some work from the gas utility, and finished the job before noon on our actual date, even arriving a few minutes early that morning. The crew (led by Rick) were all very friendly and professional, and they made sure they were working on the right vegetation before they got started. They set up a large truck crane safely in our driveway, and arrived with enough equipment to process the trees assembly-line style. It was neat to watch! Unacceptable. I got a quote from Rick at the end of February to remove a large pine and about a dozen large branches that dropped over the winter tying up a large area of my yard. No issues, reasonable price, go ahead and schedule it. He tells me they are waiting for a new crane and it'll be about 4 weeks. Great, no problem. 4 weeks go by and I get a call with a date and I take the day off work. I call the Friday prior to confirm, yep good to go. The day before, I get a call that the crane hasn't arrived yet and they need to reschedule. Annoying, and I'm not sure why this didn't red flag when I confirmed, but I understand things happen. The new date comes, no calls from the company I assume we're good to go and I take a second day off work. No call, no show. I call the company and the girl is apologetic but has no clue where the crew is supposed to be that day (?) and will call me back. 3 hours later after nothing I call back and they put me on with a guy who tells me the crane has arrived but hasn't been inspected yet as if this was something that they had no prior knowledge of. Now I'm angry. I let him know how unacceptable this was and asked for a crew to at least come remove the tree limbs littering my yard. He said he'd have to see when there was a crew in the area and would call me the next day. Nothing, no call, and I assumed this was the end of my dealings. Two weeks later out of the blue somebody from the company calls and says the cranes in operation, apologizes and asks if he can call me Monday with a final date to do the job. Annoyed and frustrated, I agree because I just wanted the tree gone. That was 3 weeks ago in early June and I haven't heard from them since. This is unacceptable business in any industry. I lost 2 days pay for nothing waiting around for these guys, I lost an entire summer for the work I'm waiting to do in my yard after the tree and brush are removed because everyone is booked well into fall now. It's extremely frustrating how little they value someone else's time. I work in a service industry and the first thing you do when a customer gets screwed is make it right, American Climbers made absolutely no such effort. read more

Process was excellent start to finish - after coming in higher than a few other quotes they were incredibly polite and accommodating to come back out to the house to revise their quote, ultimately beating the lowest bidder. The were able to schedule us within a week and were in and out in less than 5 hours. We had 5 large pine trees taken down in our back yard and they were able to get everything up and over our house without needing to remove our fence or damaging the lawn. With the exception of a few small piles of wood chips from the stump grinding, you wouldn't even have known they were here. Rich and his crew did an excellent job at our house in Holliston. They removed several large trees in some tight spots, while taking care to not damage valuable perennials in the area. Initial estimate done on schedule, great quote, good communication on a potential difficulty with the job, accurate estimate of when they'd do it, followed up with two days notice as they said they would. Then on the day of they came, they saw, they conquered. One big tree at the edge of a steep slope, two medium that were in a tricky spot next to our back fence. Gone, baby, with stumps ground to small piles of mulch. Due to our work schedules, we were never there in person for any of it. We phoned to set up the estimate and again to book them. They called to give us the rough timeline, then again two days prior to the job. That's it. Needless to say they were swamped so it took about a week before anyone could come out to look at the property. Steve was pleasant and very knowledgeable and gave us a very good quote, it was less than we had anticipated. The crew showed up this morning and believe me, they came to work. They performed the work quickly and were very efficient with their time. You can tell these guys love their work and they are good at what they do. They did exactly what they said they were going to do, left my property clean, and charged me what had been quoted. We are extremely unhappy with the manner in which we were treated. Here is a list of the major issues we have: * Quote was scribbled on paper and given to our neighbor who recommended you. Never once did you call us even when we tried getting in touch with you before hand to discuss. * We requested for you to call us before you came to trim the few trees in the front and before you removed our Spruce tree yet we came home one day to our tree being taken down. When we called you to let you know, you never called us back. * We requested you come back to our home and look at our Magnolia tree to see if it could be trimmed back further but have never heard anything from you on that. * We had your money waiting for you for over 4 weeks, contacting you numerous times to meet up with you, drop if off to you or have you pick it up and you never followed through. Our experience with this company was nothing but a headache and disappointment. We ordered two cords of seasoned hardwood. It was delivered soaking wet and covered in mud. When we stacked it, we found out it was short about 3/4 of a cord. After several phone calls, the owner finally got back to us and admitted that he expected we were short because of all the slop mixed in with the delivery - but waited for us to call. He initially agreed to make good on the short cord, but never showed up. We spent the next several weeks trying to get in touch with him and settle on another delivery date. That day went by without a wood delivery or a phone call saying he wasn't showing up - despite assurances that he would do so. Only when we threatened him with court action did we get a delivery - and it was short again. They might have the cheapest price on cord wood but BUYER BEWARE. You're probably not going to get what you paid for and you're going to spend weeks trying to get in touch with someone trying to make it right. For what it's worth, we wanted to have them take down several trees on our property but after this foolishness, we're going to find another company.
