It is really hard to find an auto repair shop that is actually honest when there is an easy buck to be made. I had an electrical problem with my Yukon and on the recommendation of a friend, had the towing service deliver the dead machine to Dave's shop. Dave was unable to pin down the exact cause of the problem. Not only did he tell me he couldn't pin the problem down, but he did not charge me for the diagnostic time (which was not trivial). After some serious analysis on my part, I believe the problem originated with some detailing work I had done four days before. My point is this: Dave could have easily sold me a battery, an alternator, or both and he didn't. Honesty is nice when you run across it!!! read more

Brought my car into American Automotive for an air conditioning issue. Spent an hour at the place while they put a refrigerant charge on the car. Left American automotive and car was still blowing hot air. when I asked to come in for a follow up diagnosis I was told to take the car to the dealership. This was after they charged me $65. I had my car worked on by American Automotive at 1400 South Main Street Lindale, TX 75771, (903) 882-7700. The repair cost was over $1000.00. When my engine blew a head gasket, I took my car back to them and because water was leaking from the back of the engine I felt it might be coming from one of the freeze plugs that they had replaced. This would have caused my car to run hot and blow the gasket. I suggested to the mechanic that it might be the freeze plug leaking and the owner Dave called me with a hateful message to get my car off his property or he would have it towed. I have the message he left in my voice mail. All he had to do was to verify that it was or was not the freeze plug leaking and I would have been satisfied. If the damage was due to the freeze plug he would have to fix the mechanics mistake and if it was not then it would be my issue. He did not even consider this issue. He is failing to stand behind his work! I am having a second mechanic look at the car and give me his assessment of the situation. Customer service and integrity is dying in America and it is irreparable companies American Automotive who take advantage of customers and provide distress on their customers. If I find that the issue is due to his shops negligence, then I will expect full retribution. This issue will not be resolved until he apologizes and stands behind his work. If the new mechanic determines that his work was not negligence then I of course will not use the service of an unscrupulous auto repair shop based on rudeness, failure to care for the customer, and a hatred for those that question his service. read more

I wouldn't recommend going here for auto repair. I was having trouble with my starter, so I took it up there for repair. They charged over $200 to fix it. Fine, whatever. I agreed and it seemed to be fixed. A few weeks later I was having transmission problem. So my fiancé brought it up there to get it looked at. They said they could fix it for $450 dollars. I paid them. Come to find out, all they did was replace the air condenser because it was "covered in transmission fluid." They said replacing it would fix the transmission. Long story short, a month later neither one of those things are fixed. Plus now we have an overpriced air condenser that I could have bought for way less from eBay. The only reason I didn't was because I didn't know that was what they were doing, and because I thought hey we're fixing the transmission. I took it back up there explaining the problems and how neither were fixed. The guy up there tells me that they can replace the starter, but all o have to do is push it in and turn and it will be fine. Now I'm thinking, why didn't you just tell me that at the beginning? Why did I have to pay over $200 to get that info? Plus they looked at the transmission. Now they are saying they can't fix it. That I have to take it to a transmission. Why would you not say that to begin with? Whether it was consciously, or subconsciously, this place seems to be trying to take people for a ride, and not in the good way. Now I've paid about $700 and nothing has been fixed except the AC, which I didn't ask for! Their work ethic is subpar for any place of business, and I believe 2 stars is more than fair for what I received. read more

You tell me! I was having electrical issues with my Lincoln and was referred to American Auto. I phoned in and was told to come 8 A.M. the next day, and when I arrived no one knew who I was. Fine I understand, of course they forget to tell me that they could not look at the car til after noon. I live about 5-6 miles away and they said that they can give rides but I lived to far away. I couldn't keep my two young daughters there so I was told to come back about noon. What a novel Idea. I show up at noon and was asked why I took the car and that now they were to busy to help me. I cooled off for a week and thought that maybe I was overreacting and decided to go back. This time I was told to come in at 8 on a Monday and low and behold no one knew why I was there, fine I understand again. As I explained the problems the counter guy asked me if I even wanted one of the repairs due to the price. I was prepared to spend a few thousand to get the car operable but I guess they thought I was poor and they did not need my money. I decided to take my car to Jack Of Diamonds in Tyler about 25 miles away. Not only did they return me to my home they also came and picked me up. I know the Jack of Diamonds service department was great but I have no idea what the mechanics are like at American Auto, I never got that far. I will never step foot in American Automotive again and I am sure from the way they acted they are filthy rich and do not need my money. read more

You won't go wrong dealing with American Automotive. We recently broke down nearby. Not knowing any service center in Lindale, we let our vehicle insurance company offer a suggestion, and had our car towed to American Automotive after hours. When we called the next morning to discuss the vehicle with them, David was just SO helpful. They checked it out, and called back to say that it was transmission related, and made arrangements to have it towed elsewhere, because they didn't do that type of work. When he learned that Ford might have a related recall pending, David volunteered to make a phone call and help check on that. Ultimately, the car was towed to a local Ford dealership (hopefully for repair at no charge to us). To top it all off, David insisted on charging us NOTHING for all his trouble. You won't go wrong taking your car here for service -- a service facility that you can trust to be helpful, and give you the straight scoop!!! read more
