This store was filthy. The aquariums were dirty inside and out. Very unorganized and used dirty equipment and used tanks everywhere. Selection was not good. They also do trade ins on fish and equipment. Fish were for sale from yesterday's trade in on live fish. They do not quarantine or medicate to prevent the spread of disease. They have a couch that is torn. Looks like someone died on it. Ceiling tiles falling off so keep your head up and pay attention. Would not be suprised if the City condemned the building. Always investigate their tanks thoroughly. There are often ich outbreaks in some of their display tanks that they are willing to sell out of, specifically the rams. When I went in on Sep 22, I also noticed BGA/cyanobacteria below the substrate in all of the tanks that have substrate in the front room. The show tank with all of the large plants right inside the door was also REPLETE with algae like stag horn and green hair. Both easily treatable but unattended. It doesn't look like they take care of their tanks much at all. They do have a decent selection of hardscape materials and equipments. read more

Best place in Lubbock for ANYTHING fish related!!! I've been a long-term customer of American Aquatics in Lubbock, TX. Recently, I was looking into ordering a rarer fish, but I was super nervous about having it delivered to my residence as I am not home often. I called American Aquatics and spoke with the store's owner, Bryce, who was BEYOND helpful! Bryce not only had my fish quickly and safely delivered to their store, but I was able to get an even better price through American Aquatics than I could find online! One last note: American Aquatics has the PUREST R/O WATER IN TOWN. I've personally tested the R/O water available from stores like Market Street, Walmart, and United, which ALL contained measurable levels of ammonia and nitrates (and don't even get me started on Lubbock "water"). American Aquatic's employees consistently change their water supply's filters BEFORE they begin to stop working. In my opinion, American Aquatics is the ONLY place in town for fish and aquarium supplies! read more

Have an open mind when it comes to fish stores in North Texas. Reason being we're kind of in the middle of no where but there's a certain level of care saltwater fish need (especially tangs) and that's just not the case at this establishment. A Sailfin Tang has fish rot and is being deprived of oxygen here. When asked why it was exhibiting signs the staff said "it's probably hungry". Another thing that didn't make sense was the inadequate lighting for the corals. If you're going to sell corals make sure they don't die before they get to a customers tank!
