Saturday, May 31st 2025 I had a scheduled flight out of Yuma. Yuma flies to Phoenix and Dallas and all subsequent flights will connect there. To my knowledge, American Airlines is the only airline servicing Yuma so consumer choices are limited. Anyway, I had a 6: 09pm flight and there was a brief delay before boarding. Once boarded, there was a maintenance issue and everyone deplaned and head to the ticket counter for rebooting. 1-1/2 hours standing in line to see an agent. The 6:09 flight is the last flight out of Yuma. When i get to the counter they book me on a 10:10pm flight to Phoenix, add a hotel voucher and a meal voucher and now i sit and wait for that 10:10pm flight. Go through security screening again and about 9:30pm the app notifications start popping up....delayed. This time in line 1hr and 15mins. Rebooked for a 9am flight out the next day. Look, i dont expect miracles and the 1st delay wasnt that big of a deal. However, when you book a later flight, without thinking of total flight crew hours for the day, or not knowing IF you can get a crew you dont book a flight and keep people at the airport for 4 more hours to cancel that flight. I was given a hotel voucher for Yuma and got to the hotel a little after midnight. I spent 8 hours in the airport, 2 flight delays, almost 3 hours of standing in line. Federal law allows for prompt compensation for domestic delays greater than 3 hours, and international flight delays greater than 6 hours. I arrived at the airport that day at 4:30 pm and left at 11:45. Compensation that American has offered is approximately $150 in travel miles. This doesn't sit well with me after 2 cancellations. However, there are no other options (other than driving) for travel into/ out of Yuma. If you have to fly out, book an early flight which can give you other same day options. Considering I had 2 cancellations in one evening, I think compensation from American should cover the entire trip. Still unresolved by American Airlines. read more
