I got a Swedish massage at this place called Amenity Spa 85 on the Upper East Side. I've had a lot of massages in the past and know that they can vary quite a bit. I don't mind getting massaged by a woman or a man, and I know that there's a level of intimacy that comes with being touched like that. However, a few things about this massage felt wrong. Firstly, I was told to undress down to my underwear (normal), but when the guy left the room, I realized there was no towel or blanket on the massage table. Interesting, but not altogether that concerning. So he asked if I was ready and came back in, with me lying face down on the table with my underwear on and no cover. I've never not gotten some sort of cover at the beginning, so it seemed odd. He spent the first ten minutes putting me into various positions, including straddling my butt while massaging my back. Also not completely unusual, although I had only ever experienced that during a Thai massage, not Swedish. It was at this time that I also thought I felt him having an erection, but figured it had to be something else. Then he started working on my "back." As someone who has bad upper back pain, it was immediately noticeable to me that he was focusing primarily on my lower back and butt and neglecting my top half. Despite being told in the beginning to keep my underwear on, he pulled them all the way down to below my butt. I kept feeling something brush up against me that felt like an erection. At one point, when he was working on one of my arms, I feel pretty confident that he essentially rested his erection in my hand. I thought maybe all of this was just my imagination (despite having had 30+ massages in my life and never really experiencing this), but then I looked at online Google reviews afterwards and saw two one-star reviews that mentioned similar experiences. If I could rate this place a zero I absolutely would. I would rate this place 0 out of 5 stars. This place is an epic certified disgrace of a spa, to the point I don't even know where to begin. First of all, Joki is horrible, one of the worst managers I've ever encountered at a spa. She will routinely hang the phone up on you, lie about who's working that day and she will schedule appointments for you, only for you to show up on time and on schedule, only for your appointment to get cancelled for one reason or another. In fact, all of the front desk people do this, not just Joki. She's just the worst offender. For example. Each time I try to book with Coco who is a pretty good masseuse, Joki lies to me over the phone telling me that "Coco doesn't work here" (she does). Apparently this is a problem as I've had other people try to make appointments with specific therapists only to be given the run around as well. It's like they pick and choose who they want their customers to see and I don't quite understand it honestly. There have also been several instances in which I've had to dispute numerous charges with my bank from them as they still charged my card at times for massage appointments in which THEY cancelled. I only recommend paying wish case here because they'll likely try to scam you. Lastly, they have a lot of groupon deals here, which highly attracts all of the riff-raff of course obviously. Dirty people from off the street and low-class individuals in general tend to frequent this spa. Not to mention the spa itself is rather dirty also. I've seen roaches crawling around on the register/counter, and sometimes the towels have certain smells too, as if they haven't been properly cleaned. I've even heard from folks who have been here that they don't always change the sheets in between appointments. That too is a red flag. Crazy to think they are the sister store to Amenity Spa 90, which is a VASTLY superior spa. Just save your money and time and simply go to the better Amenity Spa, which is Amenity Spa 90. Last week was the first time I've been to a spa in over 5 years. But best believe I needed it. Went in for a full body massage along with a hot stone treatment and it was an amazing experience. The masseuse was excellent as she knew where all of the pain points were. The hot stones were new to me and with a extremely sensitive back it was a shock at first but then I was able to adjust and I see why it's a option in the first place. As soon as you entered the place there is a sign on the wall that says " No sexual favors! So don't even ask! " I was like wow.. that stuff really happens huh?. At the end of the session there happened to be an issue with the price total which to me was a Lil embarrassing since I thought that was settled beforehand. The place was clean and they were welcoming but the lack of English seems like a liability They put us in a room with our toes facing each other instead of being side to side. My boyfriend scored us a 60 Min couples massage off Groupon for $79 so obviously decided to check it out. Let's be clear at this price in Manhattan you can't expect to be walking into a boujee spa. Lol My friend Called 30 mins prior to confirm our appointment, from the sounds of it there was a lot of confusion. He clarified he had made the appointment Friday prior and after this they took his number and said we were still confirmed. So if you do make an appointment I suggest CALLING to CONFIRM to prevent a wait time. They took us to the room right upon arrival that was closest to reception. The beds were not side by side but in a line with heads at opposite ends. Wasn't given any direction but stripped and just laid face down, they have a paper towel over the hole that they split open for you to put your face through and not touch it. I felt there were still cloth parts in the hole that touched me and I prayed hard it was just blanket that they wash and change every time. Lol I didn't say or request anything and honestly it was the perfect amount of pressure, Towards the end they even incorporate HOT STONES. were a few times it hurt, but I felt she was working on a knot in my shoulder so that can be expected. However the following morning my Friends biceps were very sore and he did wake up with a bruise on his inner thigh. Candles, smoothing music, and scents would really give this place a nice touch in the rooms to add some warmth! :) Especially since they are FAR from SOUND PROOF and reception is less than 3 steps away. *Note if you have the Groupon there is a $3 tax / person. Massage was okay. I mean it was $50 so you're going to get a basic massage. However, I believe that if you go to get a massage the masseuse should ask you if there are any parts of your body that they should be careful with. The massage was a bit rough and rushed. Also I received the worst facial of my entire life. The facial was $150.00. The masseuse lady also performed my facial, I explained to her that I have sensitive skin and my skin gets red really fast, so to please use products that would do my skin well, she recommend a facial microdermabrasion, she performed it and I swear to god she kept using the same product for the whole facial and I knew she was because the scent of the "facial cream" was the same every time she said she was using a different one. Then she put me a mask, terrible is an understatement. Nonetheless; my face was more irritated, was left really dry and more redness. She also the squeezed the crap out of my nose as if she was trying to take out blackheads, which I most certainly do not have, left me with a scar on my nose for 3 days(due to my sensitive skin). I don't know if I came on a wrong day, but I will never come here again. My total price for everything was $214.00. They also prefer cash. Hopefully you all will have. A better experience. Booked on Groupon by a friend and gifted to me, never even got to the table because they needed a barcode voucher to scan, the proof of receipt wasn't enough and this was a gift to me not something I booked myself. When my friend requested the voucher from the Groupon app it said the order was still processing yet we received confirmation emails of the booking. 3 workers came out, grabbing my phone out of my hand to show each other the screenshots I have then using a tablet to google translate that I need a barcode. I tried explaining that the barcode never showed up on the app and I have confirmations of the booking. Excellent Massage Experience. Visited Amenity Spa 85 twice for Swedish massage and the masseuse was wonderful. She asked how deep and hard I preferred and asked if she should know anything about sensitive body parts. She did a perfect massage for me with lavender oil &hot stones for 60 full minutes. The venue is a bit dated but the rooms were tidy & pleasantly dim with flower garland decorations, the music soft and unobtrusive & tidy; towels were clean & neatly folded. The spa gives you a 10 spot punch card for future discounted massages with the 11th being free. Very pleasant place with pleasant friendly staff. read more

I purchased a Groupon for this establishment. I came in today for a 60 minute facial. I informed the woman in the front that I had an appointment and a Groupon. She informed me that I had to pay a $3 tax fee upfront which was fine with me many places do this with Groupon. She made a comment "people buy groupons and don't want to pay fee". I never complained about paying a fee so her comment was unacceptable. I paid the fee and redeemed my Groupon before service.They took me to a room and I took off my jacket and mask. Another woman came in told me to remove my top, bra, and jeans. I was confused and told her I shouldn't have to undress because I'm getting a facial. She got upset and someone else came in the room and I had to show them my Groupon again. They began laughing never apologized for the error. The facial is mediocre. They use a machine on the nose to remove blackheads instead of doing a regular extraction. She kept answering her phone while doing my facial. The women then proceeded to massage my feet I was again confused because I purchased the "60 minute facial". When I was leaving I approached the front desk to leave a tip. I was asked to pay for my facial. I was livid because my Groupon was redeemed prior to service. I showed them that it was redeemed they took my phone from me and was saying I had to show a code. Another woman stood up for me and told them they were wrong that once the Groupon is redeemed the code doesn't show. They then proceeded to tell me I had to pay the $3 tax fee which I paid when my Groupon was redeemed. I told them how horrible they run a buisness, snatched my phone and walked out. After much back and forth we got up and left and had Groupon refund us for the massage. They also wanted to charge us a Groupon tax of 5 dollars each. The massage itself by 'Cherry' was excellent (besides the aforementioned chatting going on during the couples massage), however the proverbial slap in the face at the end left a sour taste in my mouth. Wow. This place was so disorganized. I should have known because I read Yelp reviews that said they didn't have the customers' appointments on file, but I naively assumed my experience would be different. When they had no record of my appointment for a couple's massage, I was told to come back in two hours. Which was fine, I guess. We killed time and waited. When we came back, they were not ready for us and gave me most of my massage IN THE LOBBY. I couldn't believe it. It was so awkward. People were walking in and trying to use their Groupon vouchers (and I saw firsthand how many people had their appointment times messed up by the poor organization at this spa). The receptionist basically gave me a 45-minute foot massage (not at all what I paid for, nor what I wanted. My shoulders are the issue, not my feet). She was answering the phone on her Bluetooth headphones as she massaged me, making appointments and... not writing them down. Which probably explains what happened to me. Finally, they found a room for me to get massaged in (not with the person I came in with, but whatever). I received a very cursory massage for maybe 10 minutes. Then as I was getting dressed after my terrible massage, they opened the curtain and started setting up for the next appointment. I said "I'm not done getting dressed," but I was told "that's okay". Um, not really. I paid for a full body couples massage. Definitely did not get that. My friend who came with me dropped her phone on the floor and it was covered in dirt, so also seems like cleanliness is an issue. She also said that they massaged her boobs... a lot... which is a little weird. Despite that I think my massage was worse than hers, since it was in the lobby and one of the most awkward experiences of my life. I left feeling FAR less relaxed than I had beforehand. After the massage, I told them it was hands down the worst massage I'd ever gotten, and the receptionist's only response was to ask for a tip. I didn't want to leave one, but I was going to anyway just because. I gave her my card to do the tip, and she just put it on the counter, started talking to other people, and basically made me wait around for even longer in this godforsaken place. After waiting a while, I just took my card and left without leaving a tip. I feel slightly bad, but I also feel incredibly ripped off. I wish I had gone to my usual local place, but I had plans at the Met and decided to try a new spa. Terrible idea. Don't go here. Just trust me. Excellent massage and great service! Arrived a few minutes prior to my appointment and they got to me immediately (so even got a few bonus minutes over my one hour!). Went via Groupon and they were incredibly accommodating in explaining how to redeem it when I was unsure. Only downside to mention was that, because the massage area and the front aren't in separate rooms, I was able to hear the noise of the check-in area and the microwave from the break room during my massage.
