My wife grew up in the area and we returned not just for the holiday season but for the 1st Bday of our daughter. 1st Bday's should be special and we were happy to be able to celebrate it among family. We of course wanted to buy an nice cake for her bday and found "Cakes by Karin" on Yelp. My daughters theme animal throughout her first year of life is a sloth and we wanted to incorporate that theme into her Bday cake. So we found some pics on-line, of what we wanted the cake to look like based on her theme. What we chose was something of a "fantasy" cake...as in no one can possibly do this right? Ultimately reached out to Karin with a pic and the question, "can you make a cake to look like this?" Not living in the Hudson, OH area our communications with Karin were via email or txt. She said yes and gave us a price...we settled on the pick up date and paid on line. "Easy peasy lemon squeeze" as my 15 yr old would say. I have to admit I was nervous the day we scheduled to pick up the cake. My wife talked about a show called "Nailed it ", and how this cake (for our daughters first bday) could go the way of the cakes on the show...in other words badly...we were both nervous. Like a true professional the cake was in an amazing box wrapped with ribbon and a candle...the cake looked so amazing we almost cried. Of course it tasted perfect. Everything about the cake was impressive...everyone who attend the party was impressed lots of o's and ah's to go around...for the cake. My daughter is not going to remember this specific bdabut the pics prove that went the extra mile for her first bday...it was all helped along by Karin at "cakes by Karin". As far as I'm concerned she a treasure and if you have a "fantasy " cake you want realized...I doubt anyone in the area can to a better job!

After a bad first experience we were not sure if we wanted to make another order and get the same quality, but Lianna reached out after hearing of the issue and offered to replace the first batch of cupcakes. We were not disappointed with the new batch. The cupcakes themselves were beautiful and they tasted incredible. There is no way I could even choose a favorite. Frosted animal cracker, cereal and milk and deep fried Oreos are just a few from the batch and each bite was so full of flavor and sweetness. I didn't mind spending the extra money on cupcakes but the presentation is horrible, you can literally see humidity in the case the cupcakes come in.. this is absolutely disgusting and I even saw on a google review that 2 months ago someone also found mold on their cupcakes! However it wasn't nearly as bad as this but .. it makes me wonder how many moldy cupcakes are sold by this company.. this is absolutely disgusting and made me sick to my stomach. It did make me puke just because of how much mold i was seeing. Absolutely disgusting and something needs to change. This is NOT ok.

The cake was probably the only thing my wife and I were really picky about for our special day. We wanted unique flavors, a light buttercream frosting that would not be too heavy since we also served ice cream and an elegant design; all in a reasonable budget. Kathy delivered on all fronts with a beautiful four tier cake in two flavors. We chose a white cake with strawberry balsamic buttercream filling and lemon curd filling, it was delicious, moist, sweet and tart. Our other flavor was a take on Buckeye flavor: chocolate cake with ganache filling along a with peanut butter-buttercream filling, decadent and a real hit here in Ohio. Kathy made the whole cake experience unforgettable with a tasting right at her dining room table and a handmade sketch of our cake to go along with our design decisions. It was delivered on time to our venue and finishing decorations were placed on site. It was gorgeous. And all this for less than $4 a serving + a $35 delivery charge. Kathy is amazing and we can't thank her enough.
