Easier, cheaper, faster, cleaner and better overall experience to go to Gallery Place if you are in the Southern half of the city, or better yet, drive to a theater in the suburbs. Paid top dollar for the IMAX experience, but because the seating is not stacked with enough height between rows, you have a 50/50 shot of having your view blocked by a giant head or a lady scratching her head non-stop like we did. See photo of view. Seats are cloth and seemed nasty to us. Leather in a theater is a must and there was no leather to be found! Beverage area was a mess. The place is difficult to get to with Georgetown traffic . . . and the Colonial Parking garage is a nightmare! All garage elevators are out of service. Parking fare machine is out of service requiring a search for a working machine in another floor. And if you go over 4 hours, you don't get the $10 discounted rate. We were there for 4 hours and 15 minutes . . . boom . . . $25 to park. Never again! read more

Been to this theater a few times and it's not bad (at least the seats recline - a must for me these days) and it's fairly clean. My most recent visit here was what prompted me to write this review now. I was here for a screening of "Game Night" last night (2/12/2018) and based on my experience having gone to many screenings, I know that early arrival is key. I arrived at 5:20 for the 7 p.m. screening and the guy at the door who had an attitude by the way, told me they don't allow anyone to get in line until 6...ok not a big deal. I went to a bar down the block to grab a quick drink. I decided I wasn't waiting until 6 to head back. I got back to the theater around 5:50 and from outside I can see there was a line inside the lobby. I went inside and confirmed that those folks were indeed in line for the "Game Night" screening. Granted there were only 10 people ahead of me, but then again, those 10 people could be holding spaces for others so I guessed I was about number 18 in line now. So what happened to the whole not letting folks get in line until 6 p.m.??? The lobby started to get crowded so they directed us down the hall to the actual theater the movie would be shown in and I noticed there were a few folks already lined up there - how is that possible?! I guess I was number 26 in line now...sigh! At least we didn't have to wait too long in line again before they let us in. I was able to get a decent seat. I can't say I'd be in a rush to come back here for a screening until they get better organized. And once you get past the lobby, you'll unlikely have any cell phone service!! read more

I am an AMC stubs clubs member and paid extra money to have my snacks delivered and they never were! My bf had to leave the theatre to go pick them up even though I paid a flippin delivery fee which wasn't reimbursed for the worthless concessions people standing there talking and on their cell phone! This is one of our go-to theatres, although it could use some improvements. PROS: *A bar! You can take your alcoholic beverages into the theatre. *New fun food items at their concessions stand (chicken & waffles?!) *Fun coke machine where you can mix and match a ton of drinks/flavors on your own. *Can pick your seats in advance and thus not have to get into the actual theatre early. *Nice, reclining seats and space in between aisles. Most seats are good, although the first two rows are still a little annoying. CONS: *More often than not, their popcorn is pretty stale. I like adding butter but when you can only do it at the top, the rest is pretty meh. *No e-ticketing for movie-pass goers *Not easily accessible - recommend street parking after hours to save some bucks (may need to walk a little), or uber/etc. if you live close enough. read more

This place used to be nice but recently it's gradually going down the tubes like most places in DC. The bar is never open to serve drinks and the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. Sunday afternoon visit to movies. The theatre seats are very good and top marks for that. However, the female bathroom was disgusting - I won't go into the detail but what you are imagining is right. They need to send the cleaners through more frequently on busy days. The other negative is the bar staff. We wanted to get a glass of wine each to take into the movies, but the bar waitress was really rude and dismissive when we asked a question. Definitely didn't expect attitude at the bar in a movie theatre on a Sunday afternoon. read more

The management here are so rude I would never give these people my business. We sat in the theater for 40 minutes with it not working. Then when the movie started the lights were left on. We tried to get our money back and they were so rude to us arguing with us and not at all treating us like customers should be treated. I don't understand how these people can even be employed by AMC. read more

4 stars for a solid Georgetown movie theater. When it comes to checking out movies, it is always great to be able to catch the action on the bug screen. While my wife and I often go to Cine Bistro in Baltimore when we want to get away from the crowds and have a meal with our film, we instead go to this AMC in Georgetown when we just want to see the movie. Located on K Street near the Washington Harbor, AMC Georgetown has everything you'd want in your standard chain movie theater. You can buy tickets in advance, from a kiosk when you arrive or through a person (sometimes) behind a desk. There are never much for lines here since most people appear to buy online, so it is pretty easy to get in and through. While this venue does sell out sometimes on the biggest films, it has actually been pretty good lately in adding showings for events like Marvel movies. Once you get inside, you can either go left to get some genetic theater food (i.e. popcorn, nachos, candy, etc) or you can go right to get adult beverages at the bar. While the bar has theater prices built in, they aren't too crazy and the selection is decent. Having a craft beer while watching an animated film with your kids can be just what you need to make it through. In terms of the screen room, the interiors are always clean and generally pleasant. This venue has the leather reclinable chairs, which is a huge plus in my book. All of my movies have started on time and not run into any issues. While the theater only has restrooms on one side (annoying when u don't want to be gone long), those are fairly clean and usually have no line. Overall, the AMC Georgetown is a solid chain movie theater. While you may noy get some of the features you'd get at smaller venues, this particular location scratches the itch well when you are looking to catch a movie. read more

I recently went to this AMC for the very first time and I honestly cannot wait to go back. The biggest drawback of most theaters for me is the cramped and uncomfortable seats all too close to the random strangers that decide to sit right next to you in an otherwise empty theater. Fear no longer the shared armrests or cramped upright seating because this theater has the most spacious, relaxing recliners! No more intrusive chomping of M&Ms or popcorn in your left ear (haha). No more unruly kids constantly kicking the back of your chair! For people with larger personal bubbles, this is a lifesaver when trying to enjoy a movie in a public setting. If beer or wine is your thing, they even have a bar in the common area where you can buy a beverage or two to enjoy throughout the movie. Keep in mind this location is in Georgetown -meaning perfect for a romantic stroll before or after the show but terrible for parking fees and availability! read more

I went to this AMC on a Saturday night, and it was pretty busy. The reclining seats themselves were nice, but I suspect that they just replaced each row of standard seats with a row of reclining seats to squeeze in as many as possible, because there was literally no space in front of the seats when they were fully reclined. This meant that if you had to go to the bathroom, you'd need to disturb half the people in your row to adjust their seats to let you pass. Every other theatre I've been to with recliners has had plenty of space to prevent that problem. (Our recliners were gray, and some Yelp photos show red ones. Maybe the red ones are better?) Speaking of bathrooms, the ladies room was pretty gross. I used it before and after the movie. I thought it was messy before the movie--a lot of the stalls had messes on the seats and floor--but it was worse after the movie with the added bonus of overflowing trash cans. The movie experience itself was pretty standard, but if you're looking for reclining seats there are a lot of other movie theaters with them in the area. read more

This movie theater is okay. The bathroom is dirty and my seats were a little dirty, covered in popcorn. I sat in row D, which was the perfect row to sit in because it's right behind the rail on the loft. The seats are reclining chairs so I loved that. It's not the nicest movie theater but it's good! They have a parking garage next to the movie theater, and with a validation, you only need to pay $9. If you come here on a Sunday, I would try finding street parking because it's free! read more

The dining menu was limited and so were the candy options. Our theater seats were broken so there was no reclining for us. If you're not particular about these things then go ahead and enjoy yourself here but if you prefer to dine and watch movies in a comfortable and clean space - go somewhere else. read more

Nice theatre environment, decent movie selection. We came to see a Fathom screening and really enjoyed it. It's great, firstly, that this location participates in those events, in addition to the Hollywood hits of the day. The theatre was quite nice, with large, reclining, plush chairs. Clean to boot. Getting around the lobby was a little tough. It looked like maybe they were partway through a reorganization. We've also had a little trouble seeing non-Disney movies here. We literally only came to see Avengers Infinity War in this theater because it wasn't playing at good times in our normal theater. I really hate having to come into the city and paying $9 for parking (and ONLY if you are under 4 hours for parking). Since we saw an almost 4 hour movie and got there early, we ended up paying $25 for parking - absolutely NOT worth it. The theater itself is fine, I appreciate being able to save my seat in advance, but they aren't special seats, just normal theater seats (at least in the IMAX theater). The place doesn't come across as being well taken care of, as everything could be more clean and people could be more attentive. The only redeeming quality of this place is that it is located across from the waterfront. read more

Went to see Cruella at the AMC Georgetown tonite. The staff from ticket takers to concessions were friendly and helpful. I liked that you could purchase ahead and pick up. The theatre was sparkling clean. That included the bathrooms. The theatre was not crowded. I felt like the covid protocol was followed. Parking is $10 for 4 hours at the garage next door. This revamped AMC features the most comfortable recliners and updated bar and food service areas. I recommend bringing a blanket as the theaters are kept pretty cold. The staff are mostly young adults and don't pay much attention. During the day there is no employee checking tickets. The theater itself is nice but the staff is unprofessional & literally ignorant of their own policies! I came Saturday night 2/17/18 around 7pm. I had previously bought my tickets online & added them to my apple wallet. When you do this, it shows up as just the code to scan. THIS BIT IS CLEARLY NOT WELL KNOWN BY ALL STAFF. We scan in & the guy taking tickets sends us to our theater. Now what we don't know at this point is our movie starts at 8:25, not 7:25pm- which is what my google calendar reminder said. So we go to the theater, see a movie in progress & go back up front thinking we were sent to the wrong one. This is where the problems started. The gentleman we asked about the theater insisted on seeing our tickets multiple times, even following us to the theater at one point. I show him what I have & try to explain about the whole apple wallet. He continues to cut me off repeatedly saying I don't have a ticket. I walk back up to the very young guy who scanned it in the first place. He won't even turn around to verbally say yes I scanned her in & yes they have 2 tickets. Seriously?! So I go through my browser to the amc site (good thing I'm a member or this wouldn't even have been an option!). Show the idiot that we do in fact have tickets & he says oh ok theater 2. ‍ All of that to answer the question I had which could've taken 30 seconds & not have been the 15 minute ordeal it turned into. These are literally children running this place. They have zero professionalism & clearly no working knowledge of how tickets may appear in guests' phones. So whoever was scanning tickets at the door & the guy handling the parking validation need a refresher course or a new job. Nice, clean, pricier movie theater. Comfy seat too! You can buy tickets online and I recommend you do as the best seats get taken fast. Full snack bar and a regular bar with drinks too. It's in a great area and there are tons of restaurants and stores nearby. It's the perfect weather outside. The newest Marvel movie is playing. You stroll into the AMC, grab a drink, use your Movie Pass and get ready to enjoy a clean theater with great seats and sound. At least, that's how I envision my movie nights going in my head. Unfortunately, the AMC, despite having recently undergoing a full top-to-bottom redo, has retained its three star rating in my book. The staff are usually incompetent and slow to either give you your tickets, scan your passes or give out your concessions. Despite AMC expanding their list of yummies, the line to get them remains long, and the night manager does not empower his staff to go above and beyond. The last time I was there I waited five minutes just so a staff member could get more gourmet popcorn buckets. That's five extra minutes I could have been watching previews for the new robots-destroy-your-favorite-city movie. The gourmet popcorn is good and worth it--get half caramel and half cheddar. The theaters themselves are okay, not the cleanest after a year of redo but not overly filthy. They could definitely clean their bathrooms more though. On another plus side, I really enjoy the Dolby Cinema--they have subwoofers in the seats, the seats are a bit more "plush" (or at least they feel that way, who knows, after a drink from the bar, a rock would probably feel good) and the sounds is phenomenal. There is no cell service in most of the theaters, so just turn your phone on airplane mode and enjoy the two hours of the movie you probably overpaid for. Also note that since this and the Regal are the only two main big theaters in D.C., seats reserve in advance--just something to keep in mind if you have Movie Pass. I'm a fan nearly solely because I like to watch movies in comfortable recliners. You can reserve your seats ahead of time and know that your seat will be waiting on you. Gone are the days of asking people "is that seat taken?". The Stubs Premiere account allows you to skip the booking fee and also sends rewards like discounts or free drinks/popcorn. I recommend it if you plan to see a few movies a year or book for multiple people at once. At $15, it pays for itself pretty quickly. I went on a Thursday afternoon during holiday season and the concession line, though relatively short, moved so slowly. I was also disappointed to have to get up and go to customer service because my chair wouldn't recline. Otherwise, there's nothing too special to report about this specific theater. Man this theater sucks. I saw Blade Runner last week in IMAX and the experience was pretty awful considering I paid nearly $20! First, the theater itself felt really old, I'm hoping this isn't what they considered "renovated". The chairs were very uncomfortable, nothing like the nice new chairs I've found in other theaters recently. Perhaps the worst part was that the IMAX screen had a huge smudge on it! I don't know what's wrong with it, but it was very obvious and very annoying. When I pay $20 to see a movie I expect a flawless viewing experience. Really overpriced movie tickets and small theaters in comparison to other AMC theaters. Really hard to find parking. I recommend Uber or Lyft. They do have a underground parking garage for $9, if you get your parking receipt validated inside the theater. However, it's only good for 4 hours, you'll get charged regular night parking fees after the 4 hours. Read the fine print if you're parking there. Also, extremely overcrowded in the front concessions area. Floors inside the theater are super sticky making it noisy when you step and could be a distraction during the movie. Half the fountain soda machines weren't working properly or out of drink flavors. read more

This theatre looked kind of small and dirty. The hallway to the movie theatre was very small and windy, which had the feel of a haunted house. For some reason the commercials in this location ran the longest I've ever experienced. It was about 30 minutes of commercials. Also the screen must have been bent in a strange way because the people on the left side of the screen tend to be bigger and have bigger faces than the right, making it hard to watch. DO NOT SEE IMAX HERE UNTIL SCREEN IS FIXED!! The IMAX screen at this theater has a large scrape/smudge in the right hand corner that is very distracting. After sending in a an email complaint about it, the manager sent me a polite and quick response that they are aware of the damage but that corporate will not spend $$ to fix it (very costly) unless there are enough complaints. It is not worth paying $20 to see a movie until the screen is repaired. But I give 2 stars for the quick response to my complaint. I went to see minari yesterday and no one in the theater was wearing his or her mask (despite not eating/drinking) and people were sitting in the seat next to me (and not social distancing). I stepped out to find an employee. The employee called the manager but the manager never showed. He then walked to the theater to take a look and ensured me he would have the manager come deal with it. She never showed. We all have to do our part and georgetown AMC is not doing it. Wouldn't recommend coming here during COVID as they clearly so not take the situation seriously. read more

I go here often, even though georgetown is kinda annoying to get to on public transportation, especially since they accept movie pass ($10 membership per month for unlimited movies!). Pros: -Reclining seats!! This makes a huge difference. The seats are huge and leather, and I love reclining it all the way down so I'm basically lying down while watching the movie. -Newly renovated -Bar area if you want to grab drinks and chill before the movie Cons: -Assigned seating since they are reclining seats. Can be a little frustrating if you get there early and all the seats are already spoken for. Not that big of a deal though! read more

A friend and I just went in here on a whim--we were just in the area and happened to want to see some that had just come out, and there were plenty of movie times even though it was the middle of the night. This place is a dump. The floors from the lobby to the movie theater were covered in popcorn and filth. My seat in the theater was wet and greasy and clearly hadn't been cleaned all day. The men's bathroom in the lobby was missing doors on the stalls and the paper-towel dispenser fell off the wall. This place is a filthy. To make matters worse AMC now does surge pricing on movies. We walk into the theater to watch Last Christmas (which needs a whole Yelp review of its own) and go to get popcorn. We asked for popcorn and the rude boy looks back at the popcorn machine and looks at us (doesn't say anything). There was no popcorn in the machine. Then we look at him again like ??? and he looks back at the machine again. Can you use your words? So we're like....uhh....does this mean you have no popcorn? and he's like the popcorn machine is down. OK. so I'm paying $15 for a movie and don't even get to enjoy my $8 popcorn while I'm there? What kind of movie theater doesn't have popcorn. Fix the machine & fix your employees communication skills. read more

The health department needs to visit this theater and shut it down. The concession stand was disgusting. The manager also attempted to scam us out of our pre-paid vouchers for food bought from TicketsatWork, a benefit through the firm I work for. He scanned them so that they could not be used at another AMC and subsequently told us he wasn't going to accept them and that we would need to pay list price for our food (in addition to what we paid for the vouchers). When I called TicketsatWork, I was told that the manager was well aware the vouchers were legitimate and that he was attempting to get us to pay twice. The manager couldn't explain why our movie tickets (also purchased at TicketsatWork) allowed us entry into the theater but our food vouchers were invalid. We were 20 minutes late to our movie as a result of the manager's deceitful behavior. Steer clear of this theater and let's hope it closes or changes management in the near future. read more

Worst movie theater experience in my life . Watch security video at concession stand from April 24th at around 8:58/9:00-9:16pm. Never felt so low and Unwelcome. And NO I Do NOT want anything free or some type of compensation for something that should NOT be tolerated at any place consumers attend.
