Came here to see Avatar in IMAX; it did not disappoint. Popcorn was huge. Their MacGuffin bar is a fun tribute to filmmaking. However, dirty and smelly toilets! Overflowing trash cans at exit of the screening room. Popcorn scattered on the floor even before film started. All this suggested understaffing. A real issue.

We have been to the Georgetown AMC so many times and it is always a solid experience. The location is great, especially if you want to grab lunch, dinner, or drinks before or after the movie, which makes it such an easy pick when spending time in Georgetown. They usually have a good selection of movies, the staff is nice, and everything is clean enough for a movie theater, which honestly is all I really need. It is one of those theaters that is consistently reliable and just easy to keep coming back to. Definitely one of our go-to spots for a movie and a little night out.

The Queen of Clubs was part of a surprise drawing just before the start of the movie.

Food is standard across the AMC locations, and I don't usually purchase food here. Nonetheless, the movie premiere advanced showing of Ready or Not 2 hosts provided free popcorn which was nice and salty and buttery. I got a great drink at the bar, and if Amanda is the mixologists attending to you then you will also enjoy your drink. FYI, the drinks are huge...intended to keep you sipping throughout the length of the movie. This AMC is cleaner than other AMC locations. Everyone, fellow movie goers and staff were friendly.

    The seats don't recline!

Very disappointed with no reclining seats! I will not be back! The ticket price 25+ to not recline!

The ice didn't work on the main side. Had to walk to the opposite side of the theater to get ice, but it was the yummy crunchy kind so I was pleased, but I took off a star because uuummm why didn't it work on the main side? Anyway...the theater was clean. Bathroom was clean. The staff had good customer service. The food area could've been a little cleaner especially being in DC. I can only imagine the fun rodents have in there. I suggest cleaning the food area more often. Yea I'll take 1 more star away for lack of cleanliness, but other than that the customer service was cool.

Solid movie experience one can expect from the AMC chain. The seats are comfortable and you can happily stretch out while imbibing the film if your choice. I decided to forego the popcorn and drink this time around, so can't comment on it. This be surprised if it was different from any other AMC. Note that there are not a lot of seats in some of the theater rooms, so be sure to get your tickets and seat assignments early.

This is the go to theater for me and it's great. Good service and good screens and clean. What's not to like.

"We just want to show the films we like. The ultimate goal is to show as wide a swath of movies as…read morepossible: good, bad, new, old, weird -- whatever." I read that quote from one of the founders of Suns Cinema in a piece about the theater, and it pretty much sums up why I'm writing a five-star review for this 28-seat movie theater. I've loved movies since I was young, and seeing a movie in a theater is as special to me now as it was when I was a budding cinephile growing up in Dallas, a city with a surprisingly great independent movie theater scene. But in our post-pandemic, streaming world, movie theaters are struggling and we're losing some. But there are some positive signs, too: new theaters opening, historic theaters getting bought and protected. Suns Cinema was founded by two movie lovers with the help of crowdfunding. And they turned what had been a cellphone store into one of the coolest little cinemas in the country. They show whatever they want - foreign films, classics, the weirdest little surprises you'd never find on your own... Take for instance what's "Coming Soon" this month - a movie made in 1958 and a movie released this year; and movies directed by William Friedkin, Agnès Varda, Andrei Tarkovsky, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Alain Resnais... They show about 30 movies a month, and many sell out quickly due to the small number of seats/tickets available. When you arrive, you're carded and asked for your ticket at the door. Then, on the left downstairs, is a bar with a few snacks (popcorn, candy, olives) and some great drinks: well-crafted cocktails, a great wine list, beers, sodas, etc. Then up a steep flight of stairs is the screening room. It's tiny, with sets of mismatched movie theater seats and chairs and a screen as large as it can be in this little screening room. I had wanted to visit Suns Cinema for years, and this past weekend, it finally happened. A friend and I got tickets for the 6pm showing of Eyes Without a Face (which I had seen once 20 years ago and my friend had never heard of - I didn't let her Google it before the screening) on Saturday night. We showed up a bit early, grabbed snacks and a great glass of wine. You can hover in their bar (there are tables and barstools), but we decided to head upstairs to pick our seats. I'm not tall (I say five foot one but that might be a bit generous), so I'm always worried about having poor visibility in little theaters like Suns. We went to the front row, and this worked fine. (We played a game of Goldilocks when we walked in and tried a few seats and positions out, because each section of seats offers a different style of seat and view - if you get there early, you can Goldilocks it from the 28-seat selection, too). Sure, you can hear a bit of noise from the bar downstairs during the screening. And yes, they added an intermission to our 90-minute movie that wasn't designed to have one (I know my cinephile brother would fume about this), but seeing a movie at Suns reminded me of why I have always loved and still love going to the movies. It was amazing to hear the reactions our small audience had to our strange, shocking little movie. There were gasps and giggles and post-movie debate. Suns offers something no other theater in DC does (and that people in other cities may not be lucky enough to have). It creates a community for people who love or are interested in film. A place to see rare movies, strange movies, old movies, challenging movies. A place to see with people who want to share those movies and the experience of being in a cinema. If I lived in DC, I'd be here often. Living in Baltimore (a city that doesn't have anything close), I'll definitely be back. DC is lucky to have Suns Cinema.

I love going to the movies and, in particular, I love supporting independent movie houses. Suns has…read morebeen open for years, but I hadn't gotten around to being a patron until last week. First off, allow me to say just how lovely and responsive the theater staff was. The screening I wanted a ticket for had sold out online, but after some brief back and forth on Instagram, they suggested I arrive anyway as sometimes there are no shows -- it was my lucky night. It's definitely a small theater and it doesn't have any of the amenities you'd expect at a multiplex, but what it lacks in corporate comfort it makes up for with charm. It's clear this place is run by people who *love* the act of moviegoing as every nook and cranny of Suns has some kind of reference or homage to old school movie theaters or classic film. The bar downstairs has some cocktails, but I kept it simple with a $5 Miller High Life and Haribo gummies. The popcorn they have on sale is one size only which was fine for the price. Definitely most of the focus is on the beer and spirits which, like the Alamo, you can take with you to the screening room upstairs. The screening room holds maybe 25 people or so and definitely has more of a home theater vibe, but it makes for a really intimate gathering and atmosphere. Definitely a hipster hangout. That said, most of the movies they advertise here are older ones (like Scream 3 which I watched as part of their Parker Posey monthlong retrospective). I will definitely be coming back.

I've seen two movies each at these theatres and for AMC Courthouse I like it but it certainly shows its age in some places for better or worse. Firstly I enjoyed seeing posters of older movies scattered in the hallway on display like one for The Silence of the Lambs adds a nice charm and while some find it tacky as a cinemaphile I think it adds charm especially since AMC has a habit of showing old films every now and then anyway. The theatre itself is small with only 8 auditoriums yet they're shockingly spacious. And it's a plus that this theatre is right next to the metro unlike Regal in Ballston Quarter which requires a bit more of a wall from the metro to get there. If you have a car there's a parking garage that offers free parking on the weekends. The staff and management are friendly and attentive. The reason you'd go here instead of there is simply convenience. The seats are rigid and small, and it's not a great way to watch a long event movie. I arrived early, but despite them having no trailers apart from a commercial for the museum you're already in, my movie still started 10-15 minutes after the listed time and thus finished rather late at night. It seems like people don't realize they are showing Hollywood movies here after dark because the theater was at least 75% empty. It is very clean and comfortable, and the massive screen really makes a difference. A few tips: + You have to enter on the Jefferson Street side, which is the entrance facing the Mall. + They do have concessions. You can get popcorn, though it's the prepackaged kind, not fresh. There are both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available, too. We had a tasty IPA from Red Bear. The museum lets you bring in bottled water, too. + The seats, while padded and comfortable, do not lean back, so it is difficult to see the screen unless you are sitting in the top half of the theater. I say Row J and above are best. You choose seats at the time of buying tickets. + When you enter, go left, there are signs for the theater, but there were also plenty of guards present telling people where to go. It was pretty easy. At the end of the show, the bathrooms are located in the basement level. The main drawback here is the theater has very bright blue lights illuminating the stairs that are not turned off during the movie. They completely wash out the bottom 10-20% of the screen. For the Bride, only a few scenes were in the IMAX format, so it wasn't a huge deal, but if you see an action movie that uses the format more, I can see it really ruining the experience. It seems like a pretty easy fix to block the lights from shining on the screen, like little covers over the top of the light fixtures, so the fact that they don't do anything about it is pretty disheartening. Overall, it is a unique experience worth trying, but if you are a lover of the IMAX format and are seeing a movie you are excited about, I have to recommend finding another IMAX option if you can.

I bought a ticket online as I approached only to get a message saying that there would be no previews and no admission after the start time, so I sprinted there. In fact, there were fifteen minutes or so of previews. Other rules about no phones and such were posted, but weren't aggressively enforced. Their food operation was a negative in my eye; when the movie did start someone stepped in front of me to take an order and a credit card number from my neighbor. The smells were dodgy and lights were kept on under the seats to facilitate eating, despite the fact that most people seemed not to finish. For all their promoting how the focus is put on the movie, it just wasn't my experience. For my particular showing, the star of the movie was actually contracted to do a special introduction, which wasn't badly done in and of itself but which kind of detracted from the movie a bit. The reclining seats were comfortable, but I'm not a fan of leather. I'm a bit of an optimist about the number of movies worth seeing and the value of an in-person theater experience, but I usually find myself going outside the District now if I want to see a movie and this experience did not convince me otherwise.
