This was my theater of choice 10-15 years ago when I lived in Waco and not much has changed since then except for one very big thing... THE SEATS! This theater is not a visually appealing location on the outside or inside but the movie quality is good and the seats are large and comfortable. Also, $5.00 Matinees (before 6pm) is a pretty good deal. We did not get concessions on our recent trip so I cannot verify cost or availability of items at this point. read more

Saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. It's an alright theater. Seats were pitched forward enough to make me think the first one I tried was actually broken. It wasn't. You have to plant your feet to keep from scooting out of the seat. Not a big deal for me. But I realize some people might find this a deal breaker. There are no bargains at the concession. I have been to AMC theater thinking many times thinking each time my experience would get better but they continually seem to disappoint. The theater is always dirty, the workers are not very nice, the bathrooms smell terrible. I genuinely think the reason this theater is so bad is because there aren't any other larger theaters in Waco and AMC uses it as an excuse to have poor service. I'm sorry, but I just can't give more than three stars to a movie theater that doesn't sell Junior Mints... because that is just WRONG. There are only two real theaters in Waco and both of them suffer badly from age and wear and tear. These theaters are old, the seats are uncomfortable, and the fact that they sold out of pretty much every show in both theaters tonight is proof that this town is ready for a third cinema... after all... is there really anything else to do in Waco but go to a movie? This movie theater is the older of the two, but the seats are no where nearly as uncomfortable than the seats at the Hollywood Jewel, I will just have to go to Blockbuster before seeing another movie here to buy my Junior Mints. read more

Definitely an older / more outdated movie theater. The staff keep it clean and are friendly, but the heavy carpet, old seats, and super retro snack counter definitely keep it dated. It's a real bummer this theater doesn't accept any national chain movie ticket vouchers, I've never heard of a Starplex movie theater before. Also mentioned in a few other reviews, but this theater doesn't carry many of the mainstream movie-snacks people crave like Sour Patch Kids or Junior Mints. Call me old fashioned, but some snacks are just movie theater staples. Otherwise, the movies play well, the sound system is totally sufficient. Nothing particularly bad about this theater, I've just been to many better theaters. This theater is great. The prices are cheap. We went to a 4:30 pm showing of The Strangers and I paid $22 for four tickets. I was shocked it usually cost double that. The staff was friendly and theater was clean and had stadium seats. I will definitely be back when I am in the area. read more

I went to see a movie with a few friends. I had forgotten my drivers license but had my student ID that showed I go to University. Everyone I talked to said that a student ID was fine since I just had to prove I was over 17 and if I got to college I'm obviously over 17. Everyone except the Ticket Lady so I was stuck at the theatre and had to call a ride to come get me. Night ruined. Would not recommend. read more

This is one of the worst movie theatre's I've ever been to. On our last 3 visits when we entered the theatre it wasn't showing commercials or previews yet, just a blank screen. We waited to see if the movie would start but it didn't. All 3 times someone had to go get someone to let them know it hadn't started. Each time the movie was anywhere from 35 to 55 minutes later than scheduled. The theatre is horribly understaffed. Usually 2 at most working concessions at very busy times. 1 person only selling tickets, no greeters to take your tickets or scan your online purchase. The drink area is filthy as well as the bathrooms. Today it was so filthy that I wouldn't use the restrooms. I don't know if it's poor management or no management at all or if this location is about to close and they just don't care. The IMAX auditorium was the nicest theater in the facility but it's not being kept up properly. I made my last trip there today. read more

This is the worst AMC experience i've ever had. AMC decided to employ some 12 year old with awful customer service skills. I wasn't able to go to a movie with my sister and her roommates (who are all 19) because we are not allowed to attend a movie after 6 PM unless accompanied by a 21 year old. When we visited Waco we wanted to see a show, everything you have read is probably true, but given the choices this is the best locally. The counter service, young uninterested and ok service I guess. We asked for some food and had to be prepared, one of the servers decline to do it so another young man stepped in and helped out. Is clean at times but there's lots of room for improvement. I will still attend for future shows. read more

Considering the options for movie theaters in Waco, I have to give Galaxy 4 stars. Although it looks like a giant kleenex box, it is the best they got. Its only other competitors are Hollywood and the dollar theatre. Hollywood is further and seats aren't as comfy and the dollar theater only shows movies that are no longer new releases. The best part about Galaxy would have to be their $1 hot dogs. I mean seriously, this is the only movie place i have ever seen where you can get a decent movie theater hot dog for $1 flat. Everywhere else they are nearly $4. Since it is the main theater for Waco, on Friday and Saturday nights it is PACKED, so we usually bought or tickets earlier in the day for the night shows...i don't think you can buy tickets online for this location which kind of blows, but I haven't been to waco in over a year since I left Baylor so maybe that has changed. read more

Wow, where do I start. First off this theater is nasty dirty. Not just in the actual theaters, but all over. The floors from the entrance on are covered popcorn and wrappers. We had to move three times to find a seat that wasn't "sticky". When arrived we were greeted with a selection of lines. No one was in line so we walked up to the counter. Apparently I walked through the "premium" line. The lady at the counter had the audacity to have us walk around and go through the regular line. Keep in mind we were the only ones there. Seriously? Please focus on cleaning up your nasty theater and quit inventing reasons to piss people off. read more

It is a decent theater. My husband and I frequently see movies in the theater and have been to several across the country, this one is decent. The prices aren't too high and the concession choices are great. The employees move slower than molasses on a glacier and frankly aren't very excited to work there. The theater seating is ok, the arms are a little short and the entire seat rows are too close together. The 3D is RealD with the glasses in the one use packs (instead of the ones that get washed and reused....gross btw). So I like the 3D there. The theaters are nicely clean and that's great. Purchasing tickets is a breeze especially because they offer self-operated ticket kiosks inside the lobby, in addition to the standard lines outside. Kids and students can purchase tickets with a school ID for only $5. Food is also relatively inexpensive with hot dogs selling for only $1. Great deal all around read more

I was angry and disappointed tonight to learn that I would have to wait in a 30 minute line for what ended up being burnt popcorn, or pay ANOTHER $15.00 for a "VIP" card, which would put me in the "short line." The "regular" patron line snaked all the way around the lobby. I missed out on 30 minutes of my movie with my six year-old due to this price gauging. I refuse to pay this. No one was happy in the regular line. They had two registers for the "regular" patrons and four for the VIP. Additionally, the bathrooms were dirty, and there was popcorn all over the hallways. Great place to go watch a movie in Waco! I have been going here for years and I like the fact there's a kiosk machine inside that you can use to buy tickets from and it helps reduce the long lines, especially helpful on the weekends. The theater is usually nice and clean and the staff are helpful. As hard as I have thought about it, I don't recall ever having a bad experience although the food and drinks are a little pricey but you can expect that at the movies. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars! Went here with my family and friend to see everything everything for my birthday and it completely ruined all of our days. At least 50 people bought tickets to see the movie and we ended up waiting 30 minutes for the trailers to start then we were told to move to another room which was the wrong room so then we stood in the hall of the movies waiting for another 15 minutes until they pulled us all back into the other room and we sat there for another hour! After the movie finally started it stopped 10 minutes in froze and the screen turned black. Never going back to this theatre again! read more

I enjoy this movie theater and have yet to have a problem in going there. Great place for college kids has they have $5 tickets for showing your idea, which has made this the place to go for me and my friends. They always have plenty of movies playing and most are showing on multiple screens at different times making it very easy to find good times to go and cutting down the crowds for each showing. Theaters are big with comfortable seating that recline decently far while still leaving good space for the person behind you. Like I said never had a negative experience here so far and will definitely be going back! read more

I reluctantly give this place a one. If there was a zero option, they would have it. I've read all of the reviews and if you gave them more than a two, you really don't expect much in a theater. I have lived in Waco all of my life, which means I have been going to the theater since I was 15 years old. So for the past 30 years, this place takes the cake as far as the worst theater I have ever been to. Anywhere. Anytime. Okay... For particulars. First of all, since they have started selling wine (since switching over to AMC) there is a continual problem with getting a bartender. As some of the other reviews have stated, there's always a bartender problem. We are movie watchers at all times of the day. We have gone on all days. About 75% of the time there is not a bartender. Apparently if they don't have a bartender, no one can manage the bar. This might be a TABC thing, but is it not the responsibility of AMC to make sure there is a bartender there? And furthermore, can the manager not pour glass of wine? I own a business in Waco, so I know it's hard to get people to work. But if you are not going to sell wine, don't offer it. Any other issues? Yep: it's not just dirty; this place is filthy. As the reviews from others have stated, there's popcorn everywhere. The theaters are not cleaned regularly in between movies. The drink station is so an organized, that it's hard to get a drink when it's busy. Good luck trying to order something from the menu. Now if you don't want wine or food, there's always popcorn. And if there's not enough in the popper, you can find plenty all over the floor. I wish I could say this is all. It is not. If you go anytime between Monday and Thursday, there's never anyone there checking tickets. Not that I care, because at any time I could just walk in there and not pay. We always have family night during the week with our five family members. At no time in the past year has anyone ever checked my tickets. I could just walk in without ever paying because there's no one there. The place reeks of unorganization and ill-management. I don't know what the problem is here, but I suspect that this is probably all management issues. This is probably the worst managed business that I have ever seen, besides El Chico--and they are now out of business and the building is gone. Which is probably what needs to happen to this place if things do not change. Never again will we go to this location. If AMC wants to stay in business in Waco, they need to fire everyone associated with the store and try to do better. Other AMCs are amazing. This one just sucks. The people don't care. They are rude. They are the most apathetic of workers. It's like no one knows what they are doing, nor do they care. For a better option, go to Hollywood. Or to Hippodrome. Or the dollar theater. Or stay home. All are better options then this location. I would say try to do better. But with this staff, that's not going to happen. Get rid of your manager and get a for-real manager and maybe they can start making the appropriate changes to keep your customers coming back. read more

The theatre recently changed over its format and is now enlisting everyone to join their stub club. They have also changed the concession format. If you join their club you can enjoy a quick line but those that just want to come see a movie have to wait 15 to 20 minutes to get popcorn. The line took even longer because people that were not members of the club were still getting in the short line and no one was verifying their membership. In essence they were cutting in line and making those of us that are trying to be patient to wait longer. This was the first time I ever went to a movie theater and did not enjoy popcorn because I did not get there 30 minutes ahead of time. I refuse to go back to this establishment because they are trying to categorize everyone instead of just letting us watch a movie. read more

This is by far the best thing to do in Waco. The theater has been revamped, which is awesome, as they have really nice new leather seats, a huge concession stand with ice cream, burgers, fries, etc, and fairly reasonably priced - $5-7 i think per person for the food. i can't think of anytime I've had a bad encounter there, tho nice that they have cops for security on weekends, just in case. read more
