This is an older theatre but it is well taken care of. All of the chairs recline which make for an enjoyable viewing experience each time. Their concession stand is clean and I like that they have a separate station for butter and salt that is near the counter as it seems to stay clean and stocked. We have never had a bad experience here and drive past our closest AMC to go to this one because we know we will have a consistent experience. The bathrooms are always clean as well. Went to AMC Coon Rapids recently and honestly? Sticker shock. I paid $42 just for two movie tickets, then got a single beer that cost $14--$18 with tip. Add in a slushie, popcorn, and a fountain drink and that's another $27. That's over $85 for a basic night at the movies for two. That's just wild. Compare that to Mann Theatre in Champlin or Andover Cinema, where tickets and concessions are way more affordable. Both those spots have decent food, actual specialty drinks, and don't charge you like it's a stadium event. AMC Coon Rapids is clean, has recliners, and it's not a bad setup. It's just not that special, especially when the price tag makes it feel like I should've been at a premium experience. Bottom line: not worth the money, especially when better, cheaper options are just a few miles away. I won't be back. read more

You know, AMC is not my top choice - in fact, I actively avoid it because I'm a popcorn snob and I hate their popcorn. I can't remember the last time I stepped foot in AMC and this was my first time at the Coon Rapids one. My friend and I wanted to see Moana 2 and she took the initiative to purchase tickets so we went here for the reclined seats (even though everyone has them now...). Anywho, it wasn't a terrible experience. She chose seats for us to buy tickets in advance and they were nice and the theater wasn't busy. Plenty of parking and everything was clean. Bathrooms are nice. Seats themselves were comfortable, no complaints. They have some vegan options for food too but I always just get popcorn and it was OK. Staff were friendly and efficient, gave me a lil water cup to go with my popcorn no problem. I arrived before my friend and didn't have to show my tickets to anyone, just walked right in to use the restroom and no one batted an eye. She had to hunt someone down just to show our tickets to put her mind at ease. We'll probably be back but not my first choice, no offense, just not my favorite branch of movie theaters. 3.5/5 read more

Made a trip here with my GF and kids at the time and was an amazing experience. We ended up seeing John wick 3. Entering the theatre we were greeted by a very pleasant staff and we place a food order. We went into the teatre and it was expectantly clean. The popcorn and food were great and all 4 of us had an amazing time watching the movie. read more

We went to a special AARP screening here tonight of the movie Good House. Haven't been to this theatre for a real long time. Reclining seats were nice but when everyone reclined there is no room to get thru. Other theatre's rows give enough space for people to walk by. The movie was a bit heavy but good. Been awhile since we have been to a movie in a theater I wanted to see the new Top Gun movie. The location is in our neighborhood so it's convenient and I use the AMC app for more convenience ordering tickets and popcorn in advance. I also appreciate being able to secure my seat. The reclining seats are comfortable and we were very happy with our experience. Staff were also pleasant and helpful. read more

So I was pretty turned off by the prices, the movie that I was seeing had the volume cut off three times and people some people don't know when to shut up during a movie. But the staff made it all better, great customer service and very helpful, I highly recommend this place and I will definitely be back. read more

Tiny theaters. (Which could be good if...) Only 5 rows and even though I bought the tickets on-line all that was left for 5 people to sit together was the front row. With only 5 rows I thought the front row couldn't be THAT close to the screen. OMG it was. Not watchable. I felt like I was going to be sick during the previews even though I had reclined my seat all the way. When the last preview was almost over, two of us moved to the only open seats two rows back. The difference was huge. So knowing that, you will have a great experience? If you don't mind the mess. The lobby was filthy. Paying $13+ a ticket with a huge service fee and taxes on top if you purchase on-line, I would hope for a much bigger upgrade in my movie watching experience. The huge reclining chairs were great, but... I will have to think twice before going here again. Lots of trade offs. (And never the front row!) read more

Seats are really comfortable! This happens to be my neighborhood movie theater. I enjoy going here early in the week or early weekends (pretty much when it's not busy). I like that the auditoriums are smaller (from the ones I've been in, about 6 rows of seats). Seats are wide and [leather] sofa style. They also comfortably recline. Concessions are expensive like anywhere else. If you are part of their elite rewards program they have a special line for concessions that basically skips you to the front of the line/quicker service. They have a full bar which is nice if you want to do happy hour and a movie at the same time. For some of the big movies that come out they make specialty drinks inspired by the movie. Overall this probably one of my favorite theaters to go to. Never had any problems. read more

If you've been to AMC's Inver Grove Heights location on the other end of the metro, you'll notice that this theater is identical. And it went through the same upgrades as that theater, which means it has the same reclining seats with footrests, the same bar addition to the lobby, and the same pricey-but-enticing new food options at the concession stand. Also, like in the other location, if you sit in the back row and recline all the way, your view will be interrupted with a glass pane. If you're in this part of town and are wondering if there's a decent place to see a movie, you will probably be glad you have this theater with its comfy seats and plentiful options. read more

We were confused as to why we were asked for IDs to watch a PG kids movie with the ticket handler being rude... would rather go to Andover Cinema, as their prices are cheaper, and it as an overall better experience than AMC. read more

Updating my review several years later. This is still a nice theater. It's large, the seats are still really comfortable and fully recline, and there's a bar and large concession area. This theater also doesn't a really nice job with hosting the best picture showcase. Docking a star because the theaters are often dirty (I once found a used retainer in my chair), concessions are frequently out of items, and the theater/staff can't seem to keep with the crowds. This is a busy theater. It's also missing other amenities like IMAX and Dolby that almost all of the other AMCs in the area have. read more

This AMC is a cut above Edina in seat comfort. The seats do fully, and I mean fully recline like a bed. The theatre was clean, the parking is ample, the sound system excellent. Oddly, I was less impressed with the food than the Edina location but that may have been a one off. The chili dog I ordered was blander and colder than the one I had in Edina. The soda seemed a little "off" like the syrup/water mix left something to be desired. The bar was nice t open when I was there so I can't speak to the quality of that. This location does not have food delivery to your seat, but you can order ahead on line - which again is a cut above Edina. I give it bonus points for super clean restrooms and friendly staff. I have become such a fan of the "luxury movie theatre" format I am thinking of joining the VIP club thing and I'm really not interested in seeing movies in other types of venues any more unless I can do so cheaply. Why pay full price and be any less comfy than you are at home with Netflix? I'm fortunate to have a 62 inch HD home screen, so at a movie I am tough to please If I'm paying $10 plus for a ticket. Feeling pampered in a sardine can of a room with a bunch of randos munching sloppily on snacks is a very hard thing to achieve. Thank you, AMC, for making a valiant effort towards accomplishing this. For each showtime, it is suggested you purchase tickets ahead of time, so you can choose and secure your assigned seats. It's a nice efficient way to bypass ticketing lines too. The concession counter is large and has a lot of variety in addition to the classics - from personal pizzas to hummus cups. My boyfriend is in his absolute prime when he is reclined in watching a movie in his sweatpants with a three-meat pizza in his lap. So onto the seats... I need to own them. They are super comfortable leather seats that recline. They are large enough that even if you stretch out, you won't bump the Sour Patch Kids out of the hands of the dope next to you. And I have restless legs, but I am always able to comfortable readjust and squirm in my own space. The recliner kind of makes a squeaky fart-y noise, but I like it. read more

This is the only theater I will consider going to anymore. Nowhere else measures up, and I'm incredibly sad about my upcoming move out of state because AMC is only planning on remodeling a portion of their theaters in the next couple years. This place is always clean and the concessions stands have some great snacks, albeit at a ridiculous markup, as per the movie theater business model. The few things that set apart this particular theater are the ticket buying process and the seating. I always purchase my tickets online, and when you do you can pick your seats ahead of time. This was you can ensure your party is together and you know exactly where you will be sitting. Every single theater offers about 40 comfy, leather reclining seats that come in groups of two so you can lift the armrest and create a "loveseat" with the person you're sitting next to. The seats recline to just about 180 degrees with the touch of a button so you can be laying pretty well flat as you watch your movie, or you can adjust the angle of recline to whatever is comfiest for you. Honestly, this is like watching at home but about 10 times better. The only thing missing is a comfy fleece throw to snuggle up in - and I've brought my own from home on more than one occasion. I live in Minnetonka and I drive all the way to Coon Rapids! Why? Let me explain! First off all the employees are super friendly never had a bad attitude experience. It is spacious and don't get me started on the food! Okay you made me just start! I have never seen Chicken and Waffles at a movie theater like WHAT! I was skeptical like it's probably going to be ight maybe even get me sick but I had to try. It is a small portion though but the taste is amazing like if you went to a restaurant. It does take a while to receive so if you are running late to a movie you may miss it. My husband always orders chicken and waffles here it's bomb! They have a great variety of snacks also the bar I don't like to get drunk to watch a movie so I can't say anything on that They have the reclining seats it's pretty laid back long enough and a plus the arm rest can go back so you can snuggle with who ever! The bathrooms have always been clean! You know if the bathrooms are dirty anywhere you can image the snack area being gross or the theater being a mess! For grand premiers though it does get super packed and the bathrooms can get messy but of course it's a packed and people get gross ! But the majority of the time super clean super friendly bomb snacks spacious parking lot! I love this theater and you pick your own seats! read more

AMC Coons Rapids 16 has become my go-to theater over the last year! It is definitely not the closest to me and I pass other movie theaters on my way to this one, but you cannot beat the quick entry, the fast lines for the concession stands, the awesome soda dispenser that allows you to customize your beverage choice and the vast array of theater sizes and well maintained reclining leather seats! I've been to this AMC multiple times and have NEVER had a bad experience! I recommend you become a Stubs Member to avoid the non-member lines which can move slowly. This gives you a VIP concession lane just for members. Purchase your tickets in advance to get the very best seats in the house and use your Stubs membership for points. My last visit I was able to use my points to purchase a large popcorn, candy and a large drink! Definitely worth the small fee it costs to become a member! read more

I was very disappointed in AMC. Their web site was terrible. The web site selected the wrong day, and I did not notice until after I purchased the tickets. I immediately notified AMC for a refund, and they initially told me that I could not get a refund because it was after the movie started. I informed them that the email was sent before the movie started. Then they only refunded the partial amount, and said that they charge a $4.26 "Convenience Fee" because I ordered the tickets on-line. This is just another way that AMC rips you off when you go to the movies. I will NEVER go to AMC ever again. read more

AMC Coon Rapid 16 You got a date with your crush and you want to take her out to the movies AND want to lay down next to her!? Well, well this isn't Netflix and Chill you little perverts, but this may just be the theatre for you! ;) Theatre: This is my go to theatre! When you enter the theatre there are staff to the left where you can purchase your tickets or there's also 4 self check out computer to the right where you can also purchase tickets and select your seats. The concession stand is straight ahead from where you enter with usually 4 checkout lines so the lines are never too bad. Also self serve soda machine and ice to the left and right to the concession stand. There's also condiments such as ketchup, salt, pepper, pickled jalapeño and butter next to the soda soda machine too. It's nice because you can grab extra jalapeño for you nachos! Seats: These are incline seats so you can literally lay down and watch the movie if you wanted. Also they always clean after every show so it's very clean. For popular movies it may be difficult to get the "best seats" for walk ins because some people can buy online (with extra charge) and reserve the seats you may want. Unless it don't matter what seats you get...cause...*ahem*...yeah...haha perverts! Tips: * Not saying that anyone would...BUT! The security is very light and you would be able to bring in your own snacks if you wanted to...Not saying that anyone does or should do...*ahem*... * Bring a blanket or even a pillow! This movie theater is like other AMC theaters... except on steroids. First off, they come with the most comfiest, cushioned reclining love seats that can practically lay flat. Ladies and gents, you can lay down while watching movies! ..it's like being in the comfort of your own home. Second of all, assigned seats! That means no coming in early to fight or reserve your seats! Just buy your tickets and come back minutes before the movie is beginning. The video quality and surround sound are top notch, the bathrooms and concession area are clean, and the staff are friendly. You can buy your tickets online, or they have 4 self-assist stands when you come in to get the line moving faster, and a real worker at an actual cash register to the side. They have practically every food option you would ever want on high-tech computer screens that are easy to read. Come here, kick back, take off your shoes, pull out your blanket, and enjoy the show. I'm here to say that pre-paying for tickets at a movie theater and assigned seating is a really stupid idea. Maybe I'm getting old but I really don't like this. I don't like anything that limits my choices as a consumer. And I have a suspicion that this whole scheme makes it easier for AMC, not for the patrons. What happens if I pick a spot in advance but then switch once I'm inside? Do they call the movie theater police to give me a ticket? Do they eject me from the theater? The 3 of us showed up in line with cash in hand to buy tickets and it was like a cartoon disaster. The ticket seller pointed to a little cartoon digital diagram and asked us to select our seating. First of all, the little readout was only a couple of inches wide. Is that supposed to make any sense to me, your stupid cartoon graphics? Not having seen the inside before renovations, it didn't make any sense. It was totally ridiculous. Later, I looked on-line and the diagrams on the website were just as lame. Second, I asked her if someone could show us what the theater looked like so we could pick our spot better and understand the stupid seating diagram. She just rolled her eyes. And the people behind us looked pissed. Third, I don't like some pimple faced idiot (or a computer) making me pick where I can sit. I can figure it out on my own, thank you. Just let me in. We actually walked out and we drove all the way to Rogers to watch our movie. And we REALLY loved going to the Roger's theater. This is not the closest theater to me, but one I try to go to as much as possible. Love that they have super comfy reclining leather seats that you can purchase online ahead of time. Really handy if you are watching a really popular movies, since there are a smaller amount of seats in each theater. Theater is modern, well kept, clean and all the employees are friendly and look like they actually want to be there. Bathrooms are clean with lots of stalls, which is great! The worst thing is running late for a movie and having to go, only to find that you have to wait in line for a stall. Getting to and from the theater is a breeze since it's just off Hwy 10 and Foley Blvd. I hate having to fight with traffic to go to the movies. It's a huge theater and there is ample parking space. Watch out for the potholes in the parking lot though. Seats recline almost flat which is great. Except my hubby is not a fan because he is 6'4 and the reclining seats seem to hurt his back. Bring a blanket and get comfy. Don't worry, you won't be the only one. Only downside, don't be surprised if you hear snoring from your neighbors (or yourself!) I'll be hitting this place for all my movies, unless hubby decides to tag along. read more

Hot damn. I am very very impressed with this AMC movie theater! This is the local movie theater in my parents' town, and I have to say, it is one of my favorite movie theaters. This is one of those awesome theaters, with reclining seats, and basically a nice little couch to yourself. Seats are assigned, so there is no chaos. I've only ever bought tickets online, in advance. We usually do this to ensure that we get prime seating. They have a pretty good system for prepaid tickets, including self-service stations. I'm always very impressed with the friendliness of the employees. They also appear to do a good job of maintaining cleanliness; the bathroom is also very clean! Honestly, i just can't get over how comfy the seats are. It's pretty fantastic! Between the service and the fantastic seating, I will always keep this AMC location as my preferred theater. read more

A follow-up to Jasmine's review in April of 2013 - this theater is, as of this review in July 2013, undergoing a complete overhaul to install recliner seating in every theater. This limits the number of people allowed in per show - I believe my 10-year-old counted 42 seats per theater. Be prepared to arrive early because there's a higher possibility you'll either have to split up your party, or wait to watch the the flick at the next showtime. The new seats are FAB-U-LOUS! They recline by motor, and I hate to think about how quickly unsupervised kids and teens are going to repeatedly play with these things and break them. I foresee lots of money in repairs and that cost trickling down to the moviegoers. This theater is already fairly pricey. I'm not sure if the alternative is better or worse - random non-functional seats scattered throughout each theater. A new feature my kids love are the Coca-cola machines that allow you to add different flavors to your Sprite, Coke, Ginger Ale, etc. I've seen these at other places like Noodles & Co. and Burger King... kinda fun to have them at the movie theater. The place is about half under construction so you'll have to endure a little noise if you go to a matinee - the noise was not loud enough to ruin the movie, however. read more

ahhhhhh, this theater recently made some amazing - amazing - amazing updates. Every seat is a leather recliner, that reclines nearly flat. this makes it so there is not a bad seat in the house. I got stuck in the front row for a showing and it was more than fine reclined fully, didn't hinder the viewing experience at all. The only bummer is that seats are so few in each theater that nearly every show sells out - quickly. So, buy online, in advance, in order to secure your seat for that popular must-see movie. Then, be sure to arrive early in order to pick your favorite spot in the theater. read more

I'm never going to another movie theater unless they have reclining seats again. The seats here are so comfortable, I want to take a nap before the movie even starts. They also have assigned seatings that you get to pick, which is nice. If you have a stubs card you get perks like free popcorn upgrades. If what you ordered isn't ready, they'll deliver it to your seats! !! DOES IT HEY ANY BETTER THAN THAT? ? Granted, the food here is super expensive... I ordered hot dogs here,that weren't ready yet and the cashier offered to deliver them when they were ready. On top of that, he put ketchup and mustard in little cups on the side for us so that we didn't have to leave the movie! Service here is great, theatres great, just over priced food. read more

I've been to theaters across the Twin Cities and the AMC in Coon Rapids beats them all. Close your eyes and imagine sinking back with your feet kicked up in an automatic leather recliner, high definition visuals dazzling before your eyes and Dolby digital surround sound allowing you to feel every scene.... no you are not in heaven (or Iowa - Field of Dreams shout out) you are in Coon Rapids at the AMC conveniently located off highway 10, ten minutes north of 694 and Central Ave. I've went to three movies here now. Tickets cost me $7 and with my stubs card (which I highly recommend) I get popcorn and drink and am out less than 20 bucks total. I know it's still expensive, but like I said, this place is more reasonable and offers more than anywhere else I've found. My son and his friends wanted to see a rated R movie tonight. No problem for his 17 year old friends, but since my son is mere weeks away from turning 17, I had to go down to the theater to buy his ticket...or at least try to. They wouldn't allow me to buy a ticket for him because I wasn't going to see it with him. I explained to the manager that I am obviously giving consent for my son to see it, but he refused. What kind of establishment feels they know what's appropriate for my son more than I do? I can understand not letting his 17 year old friends buy him a ticket, but when his parent gives his explicit permission in person? Shouldn't that be way more than enough? I don't appreciate my parental authority being usurped by anyone - much less a movie theater manager. I took my son and his friends right down to the theater a few miles away in Andover and we were welcomed with no problem. Guess who gets all our business from this point on? read more

If I lived closer to the Coon Rapids AMC I would make it the only movie theater I would consider going to. During weekdays before 6pm (not 100% sure of the time) movies are only $5 for adults. The concessions offer a wider selection than other theaters i've been to in the area. The thing that truly sets this place apart is the seating!!! Wide, soft, clean, comfortable leather recliners with arm rests that can be lifted up & out of the way. A button on the armrest will extend a foot rest & lower the back of the chair to an almost full recline. I am 6 months pregnant & was concerned about remaining comfortable in a movie seat for 2+ hours, but it was no problem at this theater. The whole experience was so much more relaxing & enjoyable. Oh & granted it was a Thursday evening, but we saw a new release & it was NOT crowded, less than 2 dozen people in the large auditorium - another plus. Don't go anywhere else! read more

One of my go-to theaters for any movie I see. I drive past about 4 other theaters just to watch a movie here. They have the comfy recliners and the customized coke machines, which sometimes have been flat tasting when I've been there. I have been going to this theater since 2005 and have never had a problem watching a movie. I love the new system where you reserve seats, it means that you don't need to get there super early to get good seats, or risk not getting seats with your group. They have always been very clean each time I have gone, it's a great theater and very well kept. If you live in the area and haven't been here yet I would highly suggest stopping in! Also if you watch movies a lot I suggest getting the AMC card. You might think it's a waste of money but you really do save a lot with it! read more

You can pre-select your seats in the most comfortable movie theater chairs ever! We will not go to any other theater. You get what you pay for, the prices are a little higher for a higher end experience. I love to be able to recline in my seat, we always bring a blanket and it's just as comfortable as watching a movie at home. The Stubs card is a great deal as well, if you go to 1-2+ movies per month, you get free upgrades on concessions too! read more
