Cute boutique located on the corner of my new favorite block in downtown Paso (lots of dining options nearby) :) The staff was welcoming and friendly as we were greeted immediately upon entering. It's conveniently located...has nice curb appeal...contains a wide assortment of stylish items (even a guy could tell that)...provides a friendly laid-back vibe and is staffed by young women who seem quite helpful. What can go wrong? My wife and I explored the shop and went upstairs to see what else Ambiance had to offer. We drifted toward a rack and noticed an attractive red sweater dress. Although it was a medium and my wife almost always fits into a small, we pulled it out. The saleswoman, Tessa, said "that rack is for clothes where only one size of the item remains in the store. I can give you 50% off". Not bad! We looked at each other and decided it was worth a try...especially since we live 75 minutes away and don't get to Paso Robles very often. In the dressing room downstairs, I could see it was a bit large, but 50% off was worth an adjustment, like wearing something underneath to fill it out. When we met Tessa at the register, I saw the bill was bigger than expected. I asked "what happened to the 50% discount"? She said "it's 10%". I know our ears are not as young as they were, say, yesterday....but we're not decrepit just yet. We both heard her say 50%. Clearly. And although Ambiance had signs for a "buy one, get one free" sale on all Free People merchandise and this item was part of that label, nothing was mentioned about the promotion pertaining to us. We bought the dress even after "learning" about the change in price because it was cute. But we can't see any reason for going back. Do you? read more

The women are incredibly sweet and helpful here. Every single woman on the floor offered me help or a compliment, even though I was in sneakers, yoga pants and a tank. And they all come off as very genuine and not pushy. They have a lot of suggestions, but not in a pushy way. Reminds me of a lot of Nordstrom SAs. Not snooty, not pushy, but definitely sales driven in all the right ways. They want to offer help and suggestions and obviously have you buy things without wanting to return them or regret the purchase later. All of the finds are unique and seasonally on point. My only sadness is that when it comes to their lingerie selection, they admittedly don't carry many pieces of one particular style so if you don't know when they get something new in, you're out of luck. That being said, it's nice to know not everyone will have the same things. All of the girls are quick to catch to your personal style and preferences if you're talking to them and they have fantastic suggestions. I wish I could transplant every one of these girls and the shop itself to where I live. Instead I am resigned to only visiting every few months. read more

I rarely write a review, but I never felt so disrespected by a salesperson as I did at this store. I had picked up a pair of sunglasses from the display rack and went to a mirror to see how they looked. A sales person "supposedly the manager" was helping me and brought me other sunglasses to try on, suddenly a sales person took one of the sunglasses I had to sell them to someone else. Literal just took them as if I was not as an important customer as the other. I was shocked of what had transpired and since the manager was with me me I asked her what the heck just happened. As I continue to express my discontent on how disrespectful the sales attendant had been towards me. The manager washed her hands and pretended that she had no idea what was going on and was unable to take control of the situation I walked out. AMBIANCE is definitely the wrong name for the store. read more

Passed by here after having lunch and initially thought it was the same boutique as the Ambiance in S.F. Bay Area and other places . . . I asked about the possible connection . . . so adorable the young lady who gave me the genesis and history, the process of the shop. I wandered around a bit and though walked out without buying anything, was struck by how cute it is. I remembered that I'd bought an "Angie" dress from here a couple of years ago. There was a review left regarding an incident with a pair of sunglasses. We were the buyer of said glasses so figured we would share the experience from our perspective. The one star review is a narrow recollection of what occurred. Ambiance was participating in the "sip and shop" evening event. The store was crowded and the staff was extremely helpful. Sales ladies were awesome and super attentive! We saw this particular pair of glasses on a rack with about 15-20 other pairs. We had decided to purchase them and had asked the owner of the store to hold on to them for us. In the bustle they were put back on the rack. Just as we reached for the glasses - the woman who complained in her Yelp review grabbed them out of my husbands hand. Along with 5-6 other pairs. She proceeded to walk to the mirror with 3 sales ladies following her - including the owner. We waited patiently as she tried on every pair she had. When she put the glasses down we had wanted - the sales clerk asked her if she planned to purchase them - she said she wasn't sure and that they were too big for her face. They remained on the counter for a good 5 plus min while she hemmed and hawed over all the other pairs she grabbed. Plus the ones the clerks were bringing her. Finally the owner picked them up and we purchased them. It was only after we bought them that she decided she had to have them proceeded to throw an entitled hissy telling the sales girl it was "complete bullshit". It was childish and the staff did everything to try and appease her before she stomped out. Keep in mind there were tons of sales and so many people - almost Black Friday style. And these were literally $60. Not some high demand designer glasses - and no one was being disrespectful. In fact quite the opposite. It was such a nice event with little nutcracker performers dressed up, free wine and fhe sweetest sales clerks. read more

So listen to this... My wife and I came up last week from LA to see Chicago at Vina Robles. When we checked into the hotel, I realized that I had left my hanging bag of all my clothes AT HOME. Yikes, what was I going to wear to the concert?? So we literally drove into town, saw this shop Ambiance b/c the clothes were cute in the window, and decided to take a chance. Well, the second we walked in, a great gal named Lucy asked what she could help me with. I told her my dilemma and that we needed to get to the venue in 20mins! Lucy went right into action and brought me one outfit cuter than the next! Seriously, I came in hoping to find maybe a decent pair of jeans and literally left with almost a new wardrobe! Everything she brought to my dressing room, I HAD TO HAVE! I really recommend this store b/c they have great taste and all the clothes are fab. But more importantly, the salespeople are SO nice and helpful. It's so frustrating when you go clothes shopping, and the people helping you DISAPPEAR. You're half-dressed in the dressing room, sadly yelling, "Hello????" Well, at Ambiance, the one-on-one service is the best. I was very disappointed in the business practices of this store. I was in town for Harvest Festival. I stopped into the store prior to dinner. I asked the price of an "unmarked" piece of jewelry. I was told by the sales clerk that it was $50. I asked for them to hold it until I was done with dinner. I returned approx 10 mins later (as I had to wait for a table) and purchased the item. It wasn't until the next day that I looked at the receipt and saw that I was charged DOUBLE ($100 plus tax) for the item. When I contacted the store I was told the only thing they could do if I returned the item was to give me store credit. I do not live in the area and only get to that region maybe every 3 years. So not only would I have the added expense of mailing the item back, but that I wouldn't be possible for me to use the store credit. I explained this to the clerk and asked seeing I was mislead as to the price if they would make an exception and either credit my card the difference between the quoted price and what I was charged or refund my purchase in full if I sent back the item. (I know I am partially to blame for not checking the amount that I was charged for the item.). But the fact that the sales clerk did not tell me of the price discrepancy, that the price for the item was substantially different, and that the owner has not called me to discuss this, after I requested her to do so, has lead me to believe that this is the normal practice of this company! So I post this as a WARNING!!! Purchase from this company if you like, just make sure you get charged the price quoted!!! Because they have no integrity, do not care about customer service, and will not make things right!!! read more
