It's a beautiful place to stay with a pleasant personnel. Great customer service. Sea Chowder is the most delicious food I've had. Room was spacious, bed was comfortable. Location is great.

Where to begin? I have been traveling through Ireland for 6 nights now, which has been superb, and this is by far the worst and most disgusting hotel I have stayed at (side note: I have stayed at the motel 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada and it was cleaner than this place). The staff has been the most unfriendly people I have come across in Ireland. The hotel smells like a grotesque mixture of formaldehyde, mildew, a desolate animal pound over run with feral cats and dogs, and the reminiscence of garbage left in a sealed up room during a smoldering hot summer day. I highly recommend finding somewhere else to stay unless you like dodging cobwebs and being lullabied by a sink that takes "leaking" to a whole new level! The only thing saving the hotel is the fact that we checked in at 11pm and had no where else to go!

Let this be a cautionary tale for the rest of you folks! I loathe this place! Stick to a local Bed & Breakfast. Why? Read on... First of all, this hotel has, well, a history and not the typical sort that one would expect. In 1879, the hotel building was originally a home for Protestant people who were suffering from incurable diseases. Each wing of the hotel looks just like a film set of a psychiatric ward, complete with the high ceilings, open spaces and constant double doors. It could be very cool but instead, it feels chilly and eerie. On to the bad! There is absolutely NO way to adjust the temperature of your room and they like to keep these rooms HOT! How hot? Well, if you intended on hatching baby chicks, this would be the place to be! My wife and I couldn't believe the intensity of the room's heat. It was like a sauna! I promptly went downstairs to the front desk where the hotel's manager explained to me that all of the heaters are connected to one another. There is NO way to adjust the temperature without affecting every room on the floor. How is it possible that a hotel this costly and with a such a deep albeit odd history doesn't have a better management of temperature controls? It's totally unacceptable! Again, my wife and I were forced to open windows to vent out the heat. One of our windows opened onto the neighboring room's balcony. I couldn't believe it! Anyone on that floor could get into our room and vice versa. It should be taken into account that if they were smoking, it would float into our room. The neighbors were also very noisy on their balcony so that made it increasingly difficult to sleep at night. Unacceptable! The water temperature flowing through the hotel's pipes were not only inconsistent but also DANGEROUS, especially for elderly and small children! About every 30 seconds or so, the temperature would suddenly change from mild to SCORCHING! There was no way to know exactly when the temperature change would occur and no way to avoid it once it had occurred. For any elderly individual or small child, this could spell disaster as they would be burned quite badly very quickly. This problem was brought to hotel staff upon checkout but they didn't appear too concerned of the matter. On a side note, if you have any work to do, don't rely on the hotel's wifi. A 56K connection would surely be faster. At 7 AM, crew of two men and a boom truck began their work on the hotel outside our room. at 715, I drew the curtain to find the basket and one of the crewmen staring right at me. Not very private if you ask me and I can't imagine any woman would like that sort of thing occurring outside her window. I've included a picture of this event, just after they crewmen began lowering their platform. The crewmen were also very loud, barking orders at each other around 6 AM as they were initially setting up for their work. As my wife and I were leaving the hotel, the crewmen had the front and left side entrance sealed off with tape. Guests were routed to the right, DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH the crewmen working above. I went around the tape and looked up to see the crewmen spraying and painting the outside of the building with some sort of chemical. Whatever it was, they had put down a drop cloth over the sidewalk. If what they were working with was bad enough to keep off the pavement, why force guests to walk underneath them and risk the possibility of being splashed with their chemicals? Our experience with this hotel was the low point of our adventures for the day. Folks, skip this place and look for a local Bed & Breakfast. Not only are they much nicer, quieter and better managed, but proceeds stay in the country, as opposed to global hotel chains. Keep it in Ireland.

    Beautiful façade! Amazing Views!

The Hotel was absolutely spectacular for our three night stay! The staff was amazing including all front desk, Toni and Katie the servers were the best, Brian the bartender was amazing. We flew in and had no luggage for the first two days, the hotel offered to wash and dry our clothes free of charge. When our bags finally showed Brian (bartender) brought up all the ladies bags. Unfortunately I was out for the night being the bags were delivered at 10 pm. They have a 24 hr phone to call a taxi if late night and no one is around. Beautiful restaurant, hotel, so clean. Absolutely made the horrible start to our trip 100% better. We had three room for the six of us. Stupidly one of the gals blew there electric adapter(we are from America) and the hotel staff let us borrow an adapter for the three days.

Stayed April 2015: "Gorgeous Views of Cork City" We parked in the lot in front of the hotel, walked up small flight of stairs to the next tier of the parking lot, and then up the stairs leading to the entrance of the hotel. The lobby was exquisite. The marble flooring was a checkboard pattern. There's the concierge desk to the right while a small seating area. To the left, through another door was the restaurant. In front of you were the lifts, and next to it was the bathrooms and stairwells. The bathroom was to the right of the hotel door. It had a green motif in the title floor and walls. There was a tub and shower curtain, another pedestal sink, and a small toilet. To the left of the door, that wall had the wardrobe and desk. Our room overlooked the city of Cork. There were two chairs framing the large Victoria windows, and there was a small table between them. There was another window, small, next to the twin beds that looked onto a balcony. The other bed was a double and the beds were separated by a small night stand. The décor was minimal, and were pictures of trees.

My room was beautiful and clean and had everything I needed and the staff was always friendly and helpful. They don't have a plug convertor to borrow but you could purchase one from them. The restaurant and bar downstairs was so convenient and the food was delicious! The morning breakfast buffet was worth it, although a hot latte seemed to always take them a while. There is seating outside and the view from here is magnificent. There is also a cute bar lounge that is separate from the building down the stairs behind the restaurant. Excellent spot to sit with friends while sipping a drink or two on comfortable seating late at night. The hotel's location was also very convenient. It was not very difficult to request a taxi (or use the Uber equivalent called Freeride app) and it was just a nice swift 20 minute walk down the hill to the city center. I recommend a visit to the English Market - lots of fantastic food and drinks to try! If you like shopping there are also a lot of shops to check out, including bookstores and souvenir shops.

The place is really nice inside with lots of updates and the trendy decor you'd expect from a Moxy. I've stayed in a few Moxy hotels in NYC and enjoyed my stays. The rooms are always small but economical with plenty of storage for such a small space. That is exactly how this Moxy was, too. The bed was very comfy and the TV had the best selection of channels I experienced from any hotel in Ireland during my stay. There's a desk that folds out from the wall, a small stool, a nook with a seat, and hooks for you to hang your clothes. I really appreciated the lighting since it wasn't just overwhelming overhead lighting. The location is unbeatable as well. Right in the middle of Cork overlooking the river. There's plenty of great bars and restaurants on that side of the river but even more fun places to explore across the way. Everything I wanted to eat and drink was no more than a 15 minute walk away. The reason for the four stars is that the shower, while very nice upon first look, leaked water onto the floor. This was one of the only hotels I saw in Ireland which had a full glass shower door which closed (hallelujah!) but it somehow STILL leaked water onto the ground. Upon brief inspection, I believe the cause may be some sort of construction error. The glass didn't seem to be properly fitted. The other issue I had was with the bathroom door. It's one of those annoying barn doors which slides and this particular door would get stuck and jam if closed all the way. Being alone in the room, this wasn't a make or break issue but if I was traveling with alongside someone, I'd definitely want that door to shut properly and I definitely wouldn't want to be concerned with how I'd get back out. The bar downstairs is really cute and I found all the staff members to be absolutely delightful. From check-in to cocktails to asking questions about the bus system and mailing a postcard, every single staff member was so friendly and helpful. I especially enjoyed my time spent with the bartenders, Olivia and Chris, who provided great drinks and even greater conversation. Being that it's a new hotel, I'm guessing there's just a few kinks that need to be worked out in terms of construction. I'd probably still return despite those issues. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

My sister, a recent widow, was traveling with her daughter--who is studying abroad in Ireland--and her son. When they arrived at the hotel, they discovered that all the rooms at the Moxy only accommodate two people. As a Titanium member with over 100 nights at Marriott last year, I travel frequently, yet I had never stayed at a Moxy before and didn't realize this detail wasn't clearly stated on the website. To complicate matters, both the Moxy and its sister hotel were fully booked. The only option given was to book a second room, which wasn't ideal for their situation and would have doubled their travel budget. My sister called me in tears, unsure of what to do. That's when I reached out and spoke with Mark. He was smart, kind, and incredibly resourceful. Despite the sold-out status, he went above and beyond--checking carefully until he found a solution. He located a room at the Residence Inn that was out of service due to a minor issue (a hairdryer needed replacing) and was able to move my sister and her family there. This completely saved the day and made all the difference for my sister during an already emotional trip. Instead of simply saying, "We're sold out," Mark took the extra steps to find a solution--something that should be the gold standard in hospitality. His efforts should be recognized and celebrated. Marriott prides itself on exceptional service, and Mark truly embodies that. Thank you, Mark, for your professionalism, kindness, and dedication to guests. I hope Marriott acknowledges and rewards your excellence!

We ate breakfast in the gorgeous dining room, which had huge windows with a view. Both of our meals were delicious! We thought that breakfast was served until 11 and not that the dining room closed at 11, so we unfortunately showed up at 10:40, but we were accommodated anyway. They were so nice about it. When we turned down MacCurtain Street, we realized that the whole street was under repair/renovation, but luckily there was no loud noises during our stay and it was still manageable to get in and out of the hotel (and the area in general). The construction may have also made the driving in that area more congested and stressful for driving but it wasn't too bad. The hotel manager said that the road work has been going on for over a year as the city is updating all of the sidewalks and streets. We could tell a noticeable difference between the unfinished side and the completed side, with the newer truly being quite nice. The hotel itself was large and fancy inside. I particularly loved the artwork and decor in the hotel hallways, featuring historical pictures of Cork and the River Liffey in black/whites. The decor was a little older and luxurious feeling so we were actually surprised at how fancy it felt. The hotel manager that checked us in was extremely friendly. We took 1 of 2 elevators/lifts up to the 3rd floor and were shocked when we realized our room would be river facing! The view from our room was pretty cool, being able to see the other side of this little city, the River Liffey, and many bridges. Being on the south side of the building, we also got a nice breeze and amazing sunset view on our second night. The hotel's amenities were very nice too. We were welcomed with a dessert tray in our room with some petite cheesecake bites, brownies and macarons. Yum! The room felt very clean, the bathroom was beautiful, clean and spacious. The beds were the most comfortable than our previous 2 hotels, and it also had plug-ins for a USB, and iron, hair dryer, and plenty of closet space. Once the construction ends, I imagine this place will go up in price and be even more attractive of a option for lodging. For more recommendations and tips from our Ireland trip... Follow @vanmblin
