My husband I ordered from Amazing Wok, and while our Mongolian Beef and Amazing Chicken orders tasted fine, the drastically reduced portion sizes for the price of the entrees has left us disappointed. I wasn't aware of the change in ownership until going in to pick up our food order and getting the 'new' menu. Amazing Wok of old was a good go to for Chinese food on West Liberty Ave. The Amazing Wok of new seems to be an attempt at a mixed Asian menu with a few Thai dishes. My husband and I ordered take out on Wednesday 10/11. He got general Tsos combination with wonton soup and I got shrimp lo mein with crab Rangoon's. The food was delicious and pick up did not take long. What gives this restaurant 5 stars is, after picking up our order. We were about 5 minutes away from our house and we received a call from Amazing Wok informing us that they forgot to put the crab Rangoons in the bag and would have their delivery driver drop it off to our house. I thought this was really nice of them to do this - obviously we would have caught it when we got home. The delivery driver was very sweet and apologetic. Do NOT eat here. This place has an active German roach infestation (according to the health inspector, as attached here). My friend lives in a unit attached to the building, and they say that the whole entire building is infested with roaches because of them (allegedly). If you like your chow mein with a side of German roach, then this is the place for you. Otherwise run FAR away. Amazing wok, you guys really need to take care of this problem. I didn't read the reviews before ordering because I didn't know the business changed hands and --very apparently-- chefs. I wish I had. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but I'm hoping the new owner reads this and improves the food. I may never know because I will likely not order from them again. I ordered an egg roll, wonton soup, and scallops in garlic sauce. The egg roll was flavorless... just salty. It's shell was crispy, but tough. The wonton soup was almost entirely broth. There was only one whole wonton and part of a second one. My scallops in garlic sauce had only a few small scallops. It was mostly vegetables in a thin, sweet sauce. I only ate a few bites before deciding it wasn't worth eating. The fried rice was simply not good. My husband ordered pork with ma la sauce. It wasn't bad. It was average, which was much better than my dish. This place used to be really good. Dormont has some great restaurants. Sadly, Amazing Wok is no longer one of them. read more

Amazing Wok is... anything but amazing. My wife has been wanting to try this place ever since The Great Wall closed in Mt Oliver. We ordered General Tso's chicken, Combo Lo Mein, Teriyaki Chicken on a stick, fried rice, won tons, and 3 egg rolls. The won tons were very good but it went down hill from there. The Tsos chicken was a bit soggy, the lo mein was also. The fried rice was average and the egg rolls were rancid. Not just soggy, not just cold, but had a slight bleachy smell and an off-putting taste. My wife couldn't swallow her first bite, I mistakenly did. Luckily I didn't get sick, but that really tainted the rest of our meal... I called the restaurant and told them about the egg rolls, and she seemed concerned, so hopefully they took care of them. We, on the other hand, will never go back. :( read more

I would have liked to try this place but I guess I won't be. I ordered online through Yelp and waited 2 hours for my food. It never showed. So I called GrubHub, and they told me that their driver was just ordering it now. Apparently when you order online, you really don't. Why in 2020 does a driver have to read the order online and call it into the restaurant?? Ridiculous! I guess I won't be using GrubHub through Yelp to order food again. The veggie lo mein is one amazing wok of art. Seriously good noodles. They were wet and full of flavor. I slurped them down like a greedy little fella'! The egg rolls were pretty good, and the shrimp inside of them was fresh. I walked just under two miles to pick up my food, as I am NOT ALLOWED to drive, and I walked the same distance back home before I got to enjoy my meal. We are newer to the Greentree area, so we were looking for a fast , delicious but inexpensive restaurant to grab dinner. The restaurant was fast with our food! I think it took about 10 minutes to make out food which is ideal. The food was very warm and packaged pretty well. My food was leaking onto the bag so that was frustrating. I ordered the General tso chicken and my boyfriend had the chicken and broccoli. We both ordered brown rice which you can not get at many places. We were overjoyed to find out they offer it. Yikes. Let's just say the Amazing Wok is NOT amazing. I should have known better because I read the reviews beforehand but I chose to listen to the wrong ones. Do not gamble on your dinner like I did - please go elsewhere. I wanted some comfort food - you know, old school American Chinese food loaded with who knows what that just hits the spot. A simple mixed veggies with chicken in brown sauce, wonton soup and a shrimp egg roll. My fave place, My Thai, wasn't delivering, so I rolled the dice with this place. And simple is what I got...to the point of being bland and tasteless. My meal was impressively devoid of flavor. The Good: The food was well-made. I saw actuality shrimp in the egg roll, the outside crust of the egg roll was made with real wonton wrappers, not that deep fried stuff, the veggies were fresh, the soup had actual shredded cabbage in it, and I think the meal was moderately healthy. So they get two stars for good quality and preparation. The Bad: When I bit into my egg roll I thought "uh oh." It wasn't terrible, it was just flavorless. I tried adding duck sauce but that didn't really help, and the only flavor that I could taste was actually the slightly buttery taste of the wonton wrapper. This trend continued to the main dish, which had a brown sauce with barely any flavor either. The most I could taste was a slight sweet quality but it was so underwhelming I found myself wishing I'd ordered plain steamed veggies so I could have made my own sauce at home. Salting it would not have helped because the sauce had a flat quality about it and would have required a mix of ingredients to give it depth. The Ugly: Weirdly, after all of this terribly bland food, the wonton soup was like drinking salty bathwater. It's like they held back on salting anything and then accidentally poured the whole shaker into the soup. I was starving and I ate that before my main meal or else I might have been unable to consume it. I was so disappointed too because it was texturally a perfect wonton soup - the wontons weren't too thick or chewy, the broth had thin slices of pork and shredded cabbage in it and it would have been the best part of the meal if it hadn't been oversalted. Anyways, I was terribly disappointed and felt led astray by all of the great reviews. I should have listened better to the reviewers who called it bland. I took a chance and wasted $20. I'm going to knock off a star for the flavorless beef fried rice I probably should have avoided, but the potstickers I wrote of before are still asskickers (I put in a double order for Kay and I), and the General Tso's Chicken (we wanted to play it safe since we were simply starving) has that moist, honeyed, crackling quality that makes the dish such an easy crowd-pleaser. I was pleasantly surprised with the food at Amazing Wok. I'm pretty picky when it comes to Chinese food, but I would say Amazing Wok is one of the better Chinese restaurants I have eaten at and that's saying a lot. I've driven by Amazing Wok probably a hundred times and I was always a little leery to eat there because it looks pretty run down from the outside and in the window. But I'm so glad I finally tried their food. Their prices are really good and the portions of food are huge. My meal lasted me 2 nights. We love Amazing Wok. It's the only Chinese place we will order from. They give you so much food we always have left overs. Their prices are great as well. We've never had a complaint or problem (we have a picky child who loves the chicken with mixed vegetables but only the vegetables broccoli, baby corn and water chestnuts and they always make it the way she loves!). Best Chinese food delivery within miles. Their egg rolls have actual shredded veggies not just unrecognizable mush inside, their egg foo young is done and has nice crispy edges, the general tsos is also nice and crispy and not mushy, and I get their hot and sour soup when I get a cold and I swear it always makes me feel better. Oh and their crab Rangoon's actually have crab in them. Their spicy (hunan whatever) chicken and spicy beef is good too, and so is the tofu if that's your thing. I've been eating there for years and would even drive over to Dormont when I lived in other neighborhoods just to come get some. One of the few places you can get brown rice too and being diabetic that's important to me, maybe important to you too if you're watching those complex carbs. I keep seeing bad reviews on here for this place.. BUT it's NOT a traditional Chinese food restaurant, it's NOT an upscale fine dining experience, it's American Chinese food and it's a heck of a lot better than Panda Express or Great Wall or any of the other places around the south hills that pre-order frozen food, fry it, and sell it to you. It's great for what it is, it's a low bar, so expect that. And yeah some dishes tend to be a little bland but that's because they are seeking to appeal to a broad audience, like all the old people around here that like Chinese take out but probably complained about the spice a long time ago. The shrimp with mixed veggies was delicious and a big hit with my 18 month old and 3 year old. The moo goo gai pan was disappointing, bland with too little chicken and far too many mushrooms. So I find myself in a very unique situation since I moved to Beechview. While I like the neighborhood, restaurants are scarce, and delivery options are limited even further. So after months of trial and error, I can tell you, without a doubt, Amazing Wok is the best game in town. I've never stepped foot inside the establishment, but seriously, who eats takeout-grade chinese food in the restaurant itself? No one, that's who. So I'm basing this entire review off of the delivery. First, the service. You're greeted on the phone by an incredibly upbeat lady, who I assume works every waking moment of her life. She doesn't seem like she has a great grasp on the language, but she's super friendly. Next, the menu. It's everything chinese takeout should be. Cheap, decent, and forgiving on your insides. Actually the food is pretty good, I usually order the chicken and garlic sauce lunch special, which comes to a whopping six dollars. The chicken is cooked perfectly, the sauce is awesome, and you get rice and soup...awesome. The best part is, is how long it takes to get to you. I call, place an order, and in about the time it takes me to drive to where the restaurant is at, they're knocking on the door. Are they just guessing what people are going to order? I am in love with this place! I have only gotten delivery, but every time they are timely and the food is piping hot! Recently, my BF and I have been watching our diets a little closer, and Amazing Wok still allows us to indulge in Chinese takeout without being unhealthy. What do I mean? I mean they have a diet menu. There is a section of different combinations (My favorite is the shrimp with mixed veggies) and then you can choose to either have it steamed with sauce on the side or have it stir fried in a lighter sauce! HEAVEN! We have ordered from this part of the menu several times and have never been disappointed. You can also get brown rice, which is a big win in my book. I have splurged and enjoyed their steamed dumplings, egg rolls, and crab rangoon. All delicious. Why do people rave about this place? The food is American Chinese food, it's expensive, and some of the worst I've had. The General Tso's I got was cheap, dark meat cut into almost unmanageable chunks, fried poorly and slathered in what tasted like sugary Tso's sauce from a bottle with barely any spice. I can't even bare to try it again because I felt like a whole dumpster after struggling to enjoy half of it. I've had much better for my money. The large portion couldn't make up for how mediocre it was. From other reviews, I can see the staff is also rude as hell. And if that isn't enough, I live nearby and the smell coming out of their exhaust in the back is putrid. It smells nothing like good food cooking. read more

In the Dormont area, Amazing Wok is the best for quick, affordable and tasty Chinese takeout/delivery. This is not a dine-in restaurant. The food has always been fresh and the service has always been exceptional. I've just about ordered everything off their menu and you can't go wrong with anything. They don't over salt and everything always tastes just right. I like ordering the combos because you also get a soup and egg roll, although the entrees aren't as large as when you order the entrees alone. Late night yum! When I find a good spot that serves up yummy food that I can grab after working late then I'm all happy with only my pointer and pinky fingers extended...hand in the air! I stopped at this joint on one of those type of nights figuring I'd give em a shot after driving by on so many occasions. From the outside it looks a lot like other take out Chinese spots...like they put no thought into design on the outside and threw up a few cheap embellishments on the inside, but really it's all about a delicious, piping hot good meal here. We ordered the chicken lo mein, which was busting out of the square plastic container. First bite revealed warm noodles with just the right amount of bite...like a good pasta should, full of flavor with the usual zig zag cut carrots, snow peas, sprouts, mushroom, onions and the starring protein this time, chicken. We also ordered the Land and Sea entree which is a spicy mix of vegetables, chicken and shrimp. My tastebuds sang a happy melody. Yes, I heard it! The service was friendly and fast. Look, it wasn't a Sesame Inn type of meal but it wasn't supposed to be. It was just yummy. My only complaint was the sauce on my entree was watery. I live a few blocks away, and always go to Amazing Wok. I used to love Sesame Inn, until I discovered this little place. The chicken is all white meat, which is huge in my book. They will customize it for you as well (I don't like mine really spicy) and are always so friendly. The woman who runs the place is so nice, every time I walk in we talk for a few minutes and she always remembers me when I walk in the door (I go maybe once a month).
