I had a previous great experience with this company, until today.
I needed a ceiling fan replaced. I had advised the company rep that we had a 19 foot ceiling, but the fan was on a drop down rod and is only 10 feet up. When we originally had the fan replaced, we had the line ran through the drop rod so that any future replacement or repairs would be simple.
So today, we had a young guy representing this company immediately go back to get his tape measure from his truck, because he wanted to measure the height to the ceiling. I told him it was 19 feet and his response was he would need to get a taller ladder. When I asked why, he said that he had to go all the way up to the ceiling to replace the fan and bring the drop rod down, to attach the fan to it. Furthermore, he said it would be a two man job. When the fan was originally replaced by the owner, it was a one man job.
Shocked, I asked him how much it would cost... he said it would be an extra $200 for a ladder trip charge. So, I was originally quoted an estimate of $160. Now, we're up to $360. When I scheduled the appointment, they said it would be on the 4th of July, which had me already bewildered, but, OK. But the extra charges being tacked on made me go into sticker shock. It makes me think A) this kid didn't want to work on the 4th of July, or, B) he had no clue what he was doing.
This isn't the first time I was sticker shocked either. I asked for a 24kw Generac generator installation and was quoted by this company a MINIMUM of $15,000. That's $4,000 more than most companies, to have a generator that only costs $6,500. So between the fan cost quote and the generator cost quote, it leads me to believe that this company is overpricing themselves and will eventually overprice themselves right out of business.
I used to find this company to be reputable, but this recent event and pricing quotes leads me to believe that they have become more of a money grab. Plus, sending inexperienced individuals out to a job does not bode well for their business acumen. Unfortunately, this is how customers are lost - by overpricing jobs, sending out the wrong guy for the job, and wasting my time. read more
