I went to Amela after many recommendations and I was not disappointed at all. I asked for a layered (lots of layers) in a V cut shape. I already had bangs prior so she recommend that I get curtain bangs too. I was so pleased with the service and the result. The cut and dry (not blow dry) was quick and Amela was super sweet and conversational. I posted my haircut on my Instagram story and a lot of people complimented my hair and even asked how I got it done. The price was also super affordable considering I have long hair (my hair was right above my waist). Will deff come back for any hair inquiries, especially since now I only trust Amela

My friend and I came in to get our hair blow-dried before a wedding. We asked if they could curl it…read morea bit and pin it. They told us both that we should trim our hair. For my friend, the stylist suggested she needed a trim to better hold a curl. For me, I was told my ends were dead - even though I got my hair cut by my regular stylist 3 weeks ago. We both said no, and they kept insisting and ultimately shaming us until we agreed. My stylist cut my hair 4 inches. I was in shock. After all that, they didn't even pin us like we asked. It's clear to me they both wanted to upsell us and wouldn't let it go when we initially declined. I'm extremely disappointed and would not recommend.

I heard from…read moreseveral students, colleagues, and my brother that the Hair Express salon was excellent, and that they've been going there for years - I'm so happy that I finally tried it out! I was in a bind and needed a haircut in two days because that was my only free day. I was nervous because I've heard that due to COVID, salons were taking weeks to make appointments. Hair Express was easily able to accommodate my short notice appointment request! **This is a professional salon! It's NOT run by students** Barbara was AMAZING! She took the time to get to know my hair care routine, asked where I parted it, last time it was cut, etc. She recommended I cut off 4 inches because my hair was super long and super dead at the end. She also recommended just a straight, blunt cut because I usually just straighten my hair, and it honestly looks so healthy and sleek now! This is located on the second floor of the student center at Hofstra University. I think the price is great for the quality you get. BONUS: They also do nails! COVID NOTE: Hair Express took all of the necessary precautions - Chairs/stations were distanced, cleaned in between use, and everyone had a mask on at all times. I felt very safe the entire time.
