I LOVE IT!!! Cany knows her stuff. Not only did she talk to me about my hair and what I can do to help it, she KNEW WHAT SHE WAS DOING! I am completely natural and it's been a minute since I even had my hair straight. She got it to look AMAZING without even using a straightener-- granted it's because the texture hair I have but still. The only Dominican hair salon I go to! I love everyone in here. 4 stations and they really take care of you here. Cany is a sweetheart and super talented. They do a variety of styles here. I even bring my 2 year old here and they treat her like a little princess. She loves getting her hair done--whether it be flat twist or braids... It always comes out looking super cute. They close on Tuesdays and are open every other day. Super convenient and close to home. I have recommended anyone I know who likes to get wash & sets to come here and they keep on coming. Let me start off first by saying I have been going to Cany for a LOT of years....way before she opened this shop....That's how great she is...I followed her! Likewise, Cany has assistance in her shop, LARISSA and her sister, who are also EXCELLENT!!! I dont let people play in my hair. These girls are amazing!! I am willing to wait hours, days, weeks JUST to let only them do my hair. I personally LOVE LARISSA because she keeps it real about your hair! I tell ALL my family and friends to go to LARISSA. She did my daughter hair at 4 and she is the tamanian devil but came out beautiful in LARISSA hands. I can name ALL my family that goes to her and show pictures! None of us have left this shop since introduced.....not many shops have that kind of loyalty. Priceless! The wait is never long, they are about their business and they remember YOU and YOUR HAIR if your a loyal customer. Today, LARISSA did my hair, as I trust HER! First off, i have ALL Natural hair. And in order for it to be as healthy as it is, it has to be tamed (meaning consistant trips to the shop). When you first start off, NO its not gona come out looking like an Essence magazine hairstyle, but they will get you there. THATS what some new customers DONT understand. Everybody hair is different and they arent magicians, they are hairstylist. Likewise, "projects" aka people who are just coming to Cany shop for the first time, needs to understand they may be undoing the horrors you put your hair through before them OR starting you in a direction of fabulous hair. All i can say is not every shop is for everybody (some people are just not gona like the shop). But Cany shop is one of the best shops around! And i have been to them ALL! They are reasonably priced, all the hairstylist (especially Larissa, Cany and her sister) take pride in what they do and they are accommodating and understand. I had a little bit of an emergency this morning, I had made a 9am appointment in Mineola and the salon wasn't open so I yelped a nearby salon that could do braids. Feeling Kardashian inspired, I decided to go with two French braids. This salon did not take appointments but I went pretty early like 9:50am and got helped within ten min. I got Cany who is also the owner, she was sweet and really efficient! My braids came out awesome and it was very affordable at $15.00 I will definitely be back! read more

Someone referred me here. It's wonderful here. She teaches you about your hair and what you can use to make your hair healthier. She really loves what she does! They are polite and the prices are reasonable. Again, when someone loves what they do, you can tell, it shows. Hands down the best salon I have ever been to!! Cany REALLY knows hair and cares about the well being and hair health of each and every client as though it were her own hair she was working with. We did balayage highlights. She did a test piece before we started to make sure it wouldn't cause any damage (I relax my hair) .You may not believe this but I had NO BREAKAGE!! That's right. None. Didn't even need a trim after. My hair is just as soft and manageable if not better than before I had it done. The color is vibrant and well placed. Cany asked me every step of the way what I wanted to make sure I was satisfied with the end result. Can't keep count of the number of compliments I have received and ppl who asked for the salon information. Can't even begin to tell you the journey I had trying to find a GOOD Dominican salon. Best hair experience ever! My hair was washed by Jacnely. She did the best job ever. She did a super thorough deep clean. The salon was very clean. After my wash and blow dry, Cany braided my hair with extensions. Job well done. Prices are also reasonable as well. This is now my go to salon. Definitely a hidden Gem! In addition to my previous review, I now bring my daughter here as well. She has special needs and wheelchair bound. They welcomed her with open arms and tend to her very well. The entire staff shows her special attention which I also love. They're very patient with her as well. My daughter always leaves with an amazing braided style. read more

My favorite hair place. This is the only place I trust with my hair. You're in and out in about an hour on a good day and max 2 on a busy one. All the ladies are great but my favorites are Larissa and Cany. They're sweet and they really know hair. The best thing about them, they're open on Mondays when everybody else is closed in the area. They are closed on Tuesdays though so plan your visit around that. Love them! read more

This is by far the best Dominican beauty salon you can go to. Not only is canny great as what she does the level of service is superb. I normally get my hair wash and set there Canny recommended me to go natural a few months ago and I'm transitioning. I went there yesterday to get 2 cornrows and wanted to look natural with braiding hair. She normally start with the braiding hair, and I did not want that lump from the braiding hair. I'm not a easy client to deal with. I showed her a 10 sec YouTube video and she perfected it and braided my hair better than I expected, been getting lots of compliments as who braided my hair. I would recommend Canny because of her patience, great service and knowledge about hair. I will be posting some pictures of my braids soon. read more

Horrible. Took my daughter there after I researched and called to confirm that they were able to braid my daughter's hair with extensions. Needless to say the style was nothing like the style that I showed them and was something that I could have done myself (I don't know how to braid so that should give you an idea of what it looked like). Gave 2 stars because at least the owner was pleasant. Don't advertise for hair braiding if you have no idea what you're doing! read more

My hair was done by Larissa and she was perfect during every step of the process. If you are lucky enough to get her to do your hair, appreciate her while you can because I have every intention of convincing her to relocate to the Pacific Northwest where she can brighten the lives of women who have been desperately searching for a Dominican salon for years in this area. I was going to Cany for years and then moved a couple of towns away. After about 1 year and a 1/2, I have recently returned and I must say I am disappointed. Cany and her staff still do a great job but things have definitely changed! I used to get a wash, set, blow the roots, and curl for $30. The price has now jumped to $45. I can understand a little bit of an increase but that's a bit extreme if you ask me. Not to mention other Dominican salons in the area still charge $35. Next, the wait!! Today I walked in at 9:50am and at 1pm (over 3 hours later) I still had not even been washed. Lately the wait time has been ridiculous... it's a minimum 2 hour wait on a Saturday or Sunday. Although I still like the way Cany does my hair, the increase in price and wait time has totally turned me off so I will not be returning. read more

I have natural hair. I came to this salon on a recommendation. I wanted to get it blown out for my 30th birthday. I just wanted to switch it up and show off my length. I got a wash deep condition and a blowout. The lady was a little rough with my hair when she (some lady, not Cany) was detangling it, but that's not even why this is a 1 star review. When it came time for her to blow dry my hair, I asked her to put a heat protectant in. She said that it was in the leave in (that was red flag number one). She was doing lots of passes over various pieces of my hair with very high heat (that was red flag number 2). To top it all off with a cherry, she told me that my hair was uneven after she blew it out so she asked if I wanted a trim, I said okay. My hair was waist length when i went in, and it was barely bra strap length when I came out (that was unforgivable red flag number 3). I am absolutely DISGUSTED with this place. I will NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES COME BACK HERE OR RECOMMEND IT TO PEOPLE WITH NATURAL HAIR. It takes alot of time, products, and love to grow our hair, and to have one person wreck all that progress in one afternoon was devastating to me. My hair is significantly heat damaged. I'll have to grow it out or cut it off. read more

If you don't mind a 2 hr wait, then a 30 minute wait between a wash and actually getting your hair done, then this place is decent. Great prices though. However, I won't be returning because I refuse to be in a hair salon for over 3 hours for a simple wash and blow dry. read more

I've been coming to Cany's for the past 6 months an I love it, until they hired this new stylist and I became her play doll . I didn't like the wash. I told her the water was luke warm and to make is warmer three times. I had to ask her to wash the back of my hair where my neck is. When she washed out the conditioner she didn't comb out my hair and had to do alot of combing out when roller setting . She took 20 minutes to roller set my hair n my hair is shoulder lenght and thin. I'm here as I'm writing this. I hope she is not blowing out my hair. Most likely I will come back but the new stylist will not put her hands in my hair again. Cany get rid of that lady unless you will start to lose some of your customers. read more

I have gotten a wash&set ever since I was a child. I haven't gotten one in about two years as Ive been embracing my beautiful curly hair. I came here yesterday for a wash and set. (Wash, rollers and blow dry) and was extremely dissatisfied. I am very dissappointed as I have gone to Cany even before she had her own salon. Let me just start off by saying I did not get my hair done by Cany and that may be the issue here. I was asked by the lady who did my hair if I just wanted a blow dry without rollers because it would "come out straighter" ???!!! I've never heard that in my life!! I feel like she was just being lazy and didn't want to set my hair; As she also told the poor little girl in front of me that her "hair was too hard" to put in rollers. *Ladies don't ever blowdry your natural hair wet as it does sooo much damage*. Anyway...after explaining to her the set was a must she asked me if I just wanted to blow dry or flat iron too...further supporting my opinion she just didn't wanna be bothered. I told her I usually don't need a flat iron as it gets pretty straight with just the blow after rollers. Long story short....when I was done with my hair she tried to insist I needed a trim(which I do but I go to NYC to get it cut dry and curly...a trim doesn't look the same straight that it does curly). I politely declined and asked her to just wrap it for me. Taking it out of the wrap today I was soooo disappointed. My hair is full and silky and shiny and usually falls straight out of the wrap. This time, my roots were still wavey along with the rest of my hair and it was so frizzy I was forced to put a flat iron to it. It looks terrible and I will be washing it tomorrow. All in all...just make sure the women you go to acts like she actually wants to do a good job for you. If not...insist on having the owner finish. read more
