Summer in England celebrates a wide variety of social events, such as Wimbledon and the Chelsea Flower Show. You can bet that at all of these events, the finest in afternoon tea is being enjoyed. During my stay in London the past summer, I had to go the Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane for their Journey Through British Summertime afternoon tea service in order to commemorate the best that the British summertime has to offer. My best friend and I decided to share the experience together, and I've never been happier for tea! My friend enjoyed the maldon cured smoked salmon with sweet English pea sandwich, which was served on a fresh granary bread. The sandwiches were beautifully presented, with the vibrant colors of the local ingredients representing the English summer. As my favorite, I chose the cheese ploughman's Hafod mature cheddar sandwich with pickle, which was served on the same granary bread as my company's delicacy. Both of us chose to add a glass of Veuve Clicquot Brut N.V. champagne to our afternoon tea, which I think really amplified the flavors of the pastries and sandwiches. We both enjoyed the warm plain scones, served with jam and clotted cream, while I particularly fell for the strawberry and cream sponge with rose champagne. Decadent. The rose and lemon Battenberg, was a light and refreshing bite, while the Kona coffee, chocolate mousse and hibiscus jelly hat had to be my absolute favorite part of the entire tea. After enjoying the journey through food and making the connections of the British summer to the food being served, we sipped a full-bodied Darjeeling Second Flush tea, which was as aromatic and flavorful as expected. Atmosphere was so nice.This restaurant was started from 7:am Only Sunday because of the brunch.Menu was very rich.Cost was 17£ for two dishes.We ordered roast beef,Insalata Caprese,fried noodle Singapore style, clam pasta. We went for dinner for a three-course and champagne set deal. I had mackerels with roasted peppers for starter, then seabass for main, followed by strawberry-infused dessert. Everything was solid and good with no cutting corners for a set deal. Nonetheless, I felt that something was missing and that most everything could be more creative and flavourful. Service was really good. The waiters were kind and prompt in their services. Ambience was good, though a bit blank for a restaurant of this quality. I could not help feel that it was part of a hotel after all and not a proper standalone restaurant. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our experience. Would like to try their a la carte menu someday. read more

Our first trip to London, we were scared of going hungry. The food is certainly not what this city is known for and the very idea of a "meat-pie" makes us shiver. However after searching for an Italian restaurant, we stumbled across "Amaranto" and boy did we sure hit the jackpot! This was a 5 star experience all around. Situated in the Four Seasons hotel, we were fortunate enough to catch a sunset accompanied by some rosé champagne. We ordered an aperitif which set the tone for the rest of the meal. Kudos. Then came the beluga caviar (luckily the dollar had a strong month) followed by our entrees. The chef soon after came to meet and greet us. The rest of the staff was lovely too including Jacque from Paris who was extraordinarily attentive. We finished up with some Jack Daniels flavored ice-cream, which blew our socks off. We were surprised not to see more tables full here considering the quality of the food, service and ambiance. Clearly this gem isn't well known so I'm here to spread the word and highly recommend if you are looking for a memorable and quality experience. Need one in NYC please! read more

I have to say, I was thoroughly underwhelmed. I came to celebrate my best friend's 30th birthday with a champagne afternoon tea, and I was expecting the champagne to be flowing. But sadly the service we received was a bit standoffish, and more interested in the table of overtly higher class patrons next to us. So we never even ordered a second glass. Nor were we asked if we wanted one. I can only assume the difference in the level of service was a result of me booking the table on an offer from Afternoontea.co.uk. How lowbrow of me! The intention was always to splash more cash to keep the celebration going. I will always pay for good champagne in good company. But the obvious difference in service quality between our table and our neighbours left me cold and not at all in a festive mood. Plus, there was a mixup with the card machine, and my Amex ended up being billed twice. Something went wrong with the chip-and-PIN machine on the first go, and the server didn't offer me a voided receipt. He just assured me that the transaction didn't go through and I needed to input my PIN again. When I looked at my online statement the next day, I found two pending transactions, which seriously annoyed me. I called the hotel and they rectified it swiftly, however. read more

Dinner was absolutely amazing and the service was top-notch. Actually, one of the most delicious items we shared was the Parmesan cheese appetizer that is aged for 24 months. It's sublime with red wine. The prices are very high - it's in the Four Seasons Park Lane after all - but well worth it. Amaranto Four Seasons Hotel, Hamilton Place, Park Lane, London W1J 7DR Amaranto at the Four Seasons on Park Lane has what we have come to expect from Four Seasons. An impeccably turned out venue with great service and good food. We thoroughly enjoyed a winter dinner here, although the seats outside in the small garden area invitingly suggested that we should come back for dinner in the summer. Amaranto is also open from the wee hours for those who want to power breakfast before heading into the office. Rather than choose a bottle of wine, we invited recommendations for pairings with each course. We were suitably impressed by the sommelier, who was inventive with the expansive Italian wine list and really went a long way to making this a memorable evening. The beef carpaccio to start was very well presented and gave an exciting array of flavours. My companion - who is a devotee of truffles - declared the truffle ravioli to be "top notch". With the truffles my companion enjoyed Inama Vulcaia Fume an intense Sauvignon from the Veneto that had a rich hue closer to that normally seen in a desert wine. For mains the beef was exquisite as was the venison - both were very rich. The venison was paired with an Italian blended red (Farnese '5 Autoctoni'). From the first sniff of the intense fruity nose, after a quick swirl in the glass, we were hooked, and tasting it didn't disappoint. It was deceptively smooth given its full-on richness. We were very grateful to the sommelier for suggesting a wine we would never have chosen otherwise. For pud we decided to disregard any Kate Moss maxims and both my companion and I selected the "six little sins chocolate plate" (paired with an interesting Donnafugata Ben Rye from Sicily), which sent us out into the night on a sugar high. read more

At first, I was all like, 'there's an Italian restaurant in the back of that roast duck place on Bayswater?" but my far more savvy wife reassured me that this place is actually inside the Four Seasons hotel. Today is my birthday, and as I am waist-deep in a thesis due in a week (I say that to placate my stress, I've barely dipped a toe into the water) so rather than celebrate with a full day of extended debauchery I went for breakfast, and am now in the library writing this review (again, procrastinating). I've been here a few times for lunch/dinner and whilst the food isn't overly innovative, the menu is solid italian done well. Large 5 star hotels are prime training ground for ambitious chefs so the level of food can be surprising -- my wife had a butternut squash soup on our last visit which she said was easily the best soup she'd ever had. Breakfast was a standard affair; I had eggs, toast, whatever, and my wife had waffles. Very good, perfectly set poached eggs, interesting potato preparation (kind of a dauphinoise, but it arrived as a little bit-sized square), and great french press coffee. Whilst the food is standard hotel, the service is absolutely excellent (they bring over stools for women to put their handbags), and the room is large with a great patio and loads of natural light. Whilst I seldom seek out hotel restaurants for dinner, there are few places better for breakfast. Oh, and it's very reasonable as well. read more

Restaurant in Four Seasons - it is a quite dark bar followed by quite bright dinning space. This restaurant is everything you would expect from the 5-star hotel without too much glam... - Nice classy space - Good selections of friendly food (i.e. steak, pasta, etc.) - Nice table settings but service can be quite slow and food is not that fantastic... I would have given 2/3 start for dinner but why does this place get 4 star?! because of breakfast... it is one of the best selection for breakfast (could only be weekends.) The weekend brunch menu is very expansive... everything from traditional eggs to pasta/wraps/sandwiches and they are available from 7am! where in London can you get such an expansive breakfast menu... and you can select any 2 dishes for £19 plus service. Coffee is not cheap so expect around £30 - £35 per person as a total bill. love it for this weekend brunch menu! Where else can you get eggs and pasta at the same setting at 7am on weekends and it is in 5-star setting... Definitely wroth while to go for a weekend breakfast when you want to treat yourself. read more

We went for cocktails on their beautifully-landscaped private garden. From wine and signature cocktails to champagne and a solid single malt whisky list, there's something for all palates (and budgets: £10 - £1750) Aladdin's Tea Pot is a fun cocktail. I pretty much love anything with Cointreau and lavender so I was a huge fan. Smoky Negroni is even better. Rather brilliantly, I was taken here in the week for a business lunch and all i can say was it was superb. Everything from the hotel entrance right through to the restaurant and out to the covered area at the back was designed so well. Service was friendly, efficient, and attentive, yet unfussy but not claustrophobic. We had business to discuss so didn't make as much of a lunch of it as we should however the food we ordered was excellent. All but one of our party had the Carbonara which was about as tasty as it could be with a nice variation of using crispy pork belly rather than the usual Panchetta. Highly recommended read more

Met up with old school friends. Dark marble and wood interiors with warm fire and potraits of royalty. We had 5 course degustation menu. For £40 per person. A savory brulee, followed by goose liver with toasted brioche. Then turkey with bread sauce. A panacotta then black forrest desert and sweets with coffee. Service was good and we enjoyed the quiet surroundings. Regaled each other with old school stories. There were complementary cocktails to start. Good location for a get together and chat with old friends or a business dinner. read more

We visited for afternoon tea. The assortment of pastries and sandwiches were a delight to both my eyes and stomach. The tea selection, though varied and good, was nothing out of the ordinary. The champagne to start was a nice touch and injected that sense of elegance that Amaranto commands. The ornate wall and the general ambiance of the dining room was aesthetically a win. Do you know what chinese people hate? Food that isn't worth the money and pasta is one of those money spinners. But so is any meat/fish/any dish thats charged over £20. Especially when you can get a bloody lobster down the road for less money, which is what brings me to Amaranto. It was by no means my first choice, but my mother's friend was here with her young son, staying the night at the four seasons hotel, it was late, they picked. Service was faultless, it was great, and they even gave me a little bag stool for my handbag. LOVED THAT! But I didn't like my Pasta, i ordered the one with scottish langoustines and I expected more langoustine meat, also it seemed pretty mushed up, like they were not so careful in de shelling them, i mean, if you're crap at taking the shells off, leave the shells on, it would probably taste better. The pasta was over cooked, and the sauce with was gloopy and cold. I just expected more from a upper end place. The zucchini frites were way too salty. I left my starter portion of pasta (which was £15 even then) which says alot for what it is. However, they redeem themselves with dessert, we tried the six sins and that was cool, with the melting chocolate ball and the creat inside was delicious. But again, you get a tonne of similar also delicious tasting desserts that are the same and probably cheaper, so just didn't seem worth it. I've actually had a lot of people be surprised at my verdict, i mean they're like, 'it's the four seasons hotel, how can you hate it?!' I took my special friend to Amaranto to mark his birthday and it was a success! We had the tasting menu that consisted of 6 courses Carpaccio, Linguine, Risotto, Veal cheeks, cheese board, White choc/virgin olive oil mousse. There were some intersting combination (For instance Amaretto jelly on the risotto or tomato jelly in the white choc dessert.) Beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and great service. We were in London for two days and stayed at the hotel where this restaurant is located. The course of least resistance was to have breakfast and dinner here and to enjoy cocktails. The bar is welcoming with a knowledgeable bartending/wait staff. The drink list is extensive and interesting. Drinks are also high priced which is typical of a Four Seasons bar. We enjoyed a couple of hours in the bar each afternoon. The breakfasts are fine...reasonably priced for a big city hotel. Dinners were interesting enough. There was some variety and some specials showed up each night. We like Italian food and this does adhere to the cuisine in a way. It is not exactly what we normally see at home or in Italy but I don't own the restaurant. We would have gone elsewhere if we had had another night in the hotel but this was convenient and satisfactory. Prices were high but probably consistent with big cities and luxury hotels. I felt the wine list was overpriced. I am used to seeing the prices triple wholesale. Some of the wines were more ambitiously priced. I don't know how much British taxes impact that. The list was extensive. We found wine we had not had before. At dinner, I felt the staff was pushing us to order quickly. We wanted wine first then wanted to order but wait staff returned frequently.
