I was recently vacationing on Lake Huron and a local asked me if I'd been to Amar Pizza and suggested we stop there on our way home. I was quite intrigued that I was being recommended a place to try that was over 2 hours away from where we were, but stopped we did, and damn I'm so glad we did! First, how on Earth does this place have an average rating of a 4? The low ratings must be from a long time ago because this place runs extremely well and they have mastered their unique pizza. This place is one to go to and one to tell all your friends about. We were planning on ordering 2 small deep dish pizzas- a Naga and a Tandoori, but we ended up ordering a large and they were willing to split the pizza in half- which was a cost savings and super nice of them, for the same amount of pizza. The cashier was super welcoming and friendly and walked us through the menu and I thought her customer service was top notch. We ordered our pizza and were quoted 20 minutes, and it was ready in a little less time than that. The pizza was made fresh and boiling hot from the oven. Both pizzas belong in their own category of food. They are pizza but they also taste like something else. The components were well mastered- the crust was crispy and fluffy, and tasted a bit like a light focaccia. The flavors were well balanced- not too greasy or spicy or hot- really just perfect. I love the way they chop red onions, it really allows you to get the full onion flavor which I love. The interior was modest but clean. There was bulletproof glass like other reviewers mentioned. I'm not from the area but the neighborhood seemed safe, just not a white area, and I would have eaten inside if I didn't have dogs waiting in the car. They have an extensive of typical and more unique beverages. I couldn't resist trying the Mango Pepsi, which was delicious. The prices were incredibly reasonable- I spent $40 that covered four meals. And the pizza was really good reheated too. They charge a 4% fee to pay with a credit card. I marked this as a place to definitely return next time Im in the area. Loving Hamtramk lately, and this spot has been on the radar for years. I am a huge spice lover and was ready to rock! For this reason I also got the wife and son a Mediterranean pie. (Side note- the Mediterranean does have some spicy salt type of crust dust, we doctored it up for my toddler and he loved it!). The flavour on the ghost pepper pizza was top notch! Very well balanced, that is for the mere mortals. I would definitely ask for extra spice (if that's an option) if you really want to sweat while you eat. The Mediterranean pizza was also very good, I think they use the same chicken on all the pies- that's not a bad thing. Looking forward to exploring the menu more! I think spicy beef is next. While waiting for my order I was chatting with the guy at the counter, really nice dude. Apparently ghost, then naga (best seller), then tandoori in order of spice.

We were on a trip to Detroit. This little fusion pizza place is a great find! Large menu with flexible options. We ordered tandoori pizza and dried fish pizza. Both were delicious. I highly recommend this place!!

I used to love Amar Pizza when it first opened. Now, the pizza prices here have drastically increased and the food quality has drastically decreased. Overall, I think the pizzas here suck. My biggest disappointment is the Naga Pizza, which used to be my favorite. For $15, I expected it to taste even better now, but it did not. In fact, there are even fewer toppings on the pizza. The $18 Dry Fish Pizza was burnt. That's all I gotta say.

My bf has been raving about the pizza from Amar & their ghost pepper sauce pretty much since the day I met him. I finally got to try it! $25 for a large 1/2 naga-1/2 spice pizza seemed a bit much. And I wonder what a small pizza from here looks like, because the large isn't that big. But I love the concept-Detroit-style pizza+Bangladeshi flavors. The naga pizza is delicious. I wish I had just done that one. The sauce is sooo good. The spice pizza, despite it's name, was bland. However, was really good heated up the next day. The flavor and spice was so good. There are only 2 tables inside, so it's best to order takeout.

Bangladeshi pizza. They have been around for 10 years, 7 in hamtramck and 3 years in this location. What an interesting concept that's intrigued me to try it out once, finally made it here. Split pizzas are available on square or rounds as the minimum medium size pizzas. I got them to go for dinner later, hubby will be ecstatic. Ordered the ghost pizza with extra ghost sauce and Hawaii pizza on one pie. The Mediterranean and the tandoori with garlic added on the other pizza. The pizzas take about 25 minutes to make. There's two rough and tumble makeshift dining seats. Nice plexiglass windows to keep the staff safe. The crusts were nice and chewy, the pizza bottom was a bit thick, I tend to prefer my pizza to have thin crusts and bottoms too, but overall it was not bad. It would also have been nice to have some GF pizza options too. Only indulge in the glutinous pizzas a couple of times a year. The pizzas took about 20 minutes to come out for me to pick them up. I sat and waited by the tables until they were completed, thank goodness for iPhones and mindless games and scrolling through whatever. The Ghost chicken pizza had a nice kick to it, glad I got the extra ghost sauce on it. The Mediterranean chicken doesn't taste half bad either, a bit scant on the chicken pieces. The tandoori chicken has a nice sweet and tangy spice to it. The options here are definitely interesting. I would probably get the ghost chicken above all the other ones I ordered today, that had the best taste and flavors out of all 4. The ham on the Hawaiian looked like deli sliced meat to me, looked a bit off once it was cooked and paper thin too, but there's at least a lot of ham. The only pie light on the chicken bits or bites was the Mediterranean for me, maybe a handful at most. Each pie was $16, about the same as many gourmet pizza spots in the vicinity. Not a bad pizza spot overall. He said it's the one of the better pizzas he's had in a while. My hubby said he liked the Mediterranean and the ghost pepper, he liked the pizza toppings, but didn't love the crust either.

It's hard to get pizza wrong, but it's even harder to innovate the classic food group. At Amar, the Bangladeshi flavors allow you to experience new combinations of pizza. We had a split pizza Naga and Tandoori. Both had beautiful and colorful presentations. The Naga was good with a hint of spice and the Tandoori chicken was tender and flavorful. I honestly enjoyed eating theme concurrently as they hit separate taste buds. Amar is a low-key place with a couple of tables and unassuming storefront. There are a variety of options for pizza, biriyani, and other foods, so surely you can find something savory to enjoy!

I ordered "Naga Biryani" as a hot and spicy food lover. The biryani was in fact sweet. I told them to check, they said yes it is the one. I told them that, their biryani does not have a single flake of Naga and it is called "Naga Biryani" huh.. I told him about how "Reshmi Sweets and Cafe" makes really good biryani. Then he says "we are not trying to kill people" come on bro, "Naga Biryani " is for those people who loves really hot food. If your dish will taste sweet then why do u call it that name. ok, after the munch down, I was disappointed. Readings the great reviews, makes me wonder. the taste buds people have. both pizza's was dry hardly any sauce, the meats was dry , overall cardboard pizza in a cardboard boxes. read more

I probably eat a Large Square Tandoori chicken pizza once a week. I had my mom try it and my grandma. The people who run the place are always really nice too. Get the square (I think it's a million times better than the round) and you can't go wrong with Naga, Southwest, or Spice either. But the Tandoori is the clear winner. read more

Their wings and spicy chicken burgers are great, but I am not a fan at all for their pizza. The cheese tastes off, like stale cheese that has absorbed all the rancid smells of a moldy fridge. This is disappointing, especially for a place that has "pizza" on their title. read more

The service is great and the food is outstanding. I live nearby, but I would drive in and eat it at one of their tables if I had to. Whenever I leave town for a few weeks, this is one of the places I miss and hit up as soon as I return. I usually have some of their pizza at every party I throw and they invariably impress my guests. I love their spice pizza and their veggie pizza. Their square crust is great! I had a thin crust once and found that pizza to be good rather than the amazing I have come to expect! read more

A nice hole in the wall pizza takeout place. Ambiance = 0, in fact it's a bullet proof restaurant that resembles most any Detroit gas station, probably out of necessity. Prices are fantastic. I've tried several different pizzas at this point, and found them all good. I'd like to see the crust a bit more crispy crunchy just on the outside, and still soft on the inside. I have tried the naga pizza and the ghost pepper pizza ("extreme heat - eat at own risk") and all I can say is, Zimmern, I love your show but you're a wimp LOL!! I found the latter fantastic and the flavor, presumably of the pepper itself, uniquely delish. Try it, you really can't go wrong. The four stars are purely for the food, making something interesting out of boring old pizza. read more

Good pizza but absolutely terrible customer service! A little bit of politeness and humbleness can go a long freakin way. But knowing Bengali ppl, they have a hard time understanding that half of the times. Plus if they knew what fresh ingredients are, it would really help their business. I went to Amar Pizza as suggested by a coworker. It is a small and not too fancy restaurant but the smell that hit me when i walked in got me excited. I ordered the Naga Pizza with a side of extra Naga sauce.. I cannot begin to tell you how good this pizza was. First off the owner suggested I do a deep dish.. Which was amazing. the dough had a nice flavor and was the prefect thickness. And it was not overly crunchy.. It was easy to eat and tasted great. the topping were just right and it even looked amazing. :) I highly recommend this place and that after only having one item on the menu... The best part beside the food was that the owner was extremely friendly and the people that I met while waiting for my pizza were all very nice too. The suburbs has nothing on this place.. I hope they can expand and get a bigger eat in area. They also cater.. :) read more

Amar's is my favorite pizza in all the land. Square is great with the cheese caramelizing around the edges, but round is great too if you're a fan of less bready pies. I've yet to try their deep dish, as I'm not a huge fan of any deep dish, but seeing as my husband is from Chicago, it is only a matter of time before we order one. Try the Spinach and feta 'za. Hands down the best. It's as if they cooked all of the spinach they could find and put it on a single pizza. I have dreams about this pizza. It's dangerous that I live only blocks away. Always make sure to get some naga sauce on the side. It is a great compliment to the slightly sweet tandoori chicken pie. I made pizza at home rather frequently and almost always impress myself, but this is not that pizza. This is pizza sent from Pizza Heaven. Supino's is great, OG Buddy's is great, and they are both close by, but they aren't my beloved Amar's. read more

After reading lot of good reviews we bought a tandoori pizza, and it was ok. May be because we had better, but it was like everyday pizzahut stuff with more indian subcontinent taste. If you are looking for a change from regular stuff, yes this might work but not among the best in the town. read more

Really enjoy the creativity that goes into creating the menu at Amar pizza. Locally owned by four brothers really allows for great quality food to be offered. Their deep dish is by far my favorite. I've had various types of pizza, but Amar pizza truly does offer a distinct flavor that always has me coming back for more! They are expensive as hell. A cheese pizza is $14. Only 1 topping cost $2.50. The only reason i want to go to this place instead of jets or other brand because they r halal. But that does not mean they has to be freaking expensive. And their customer service sucks. read more

I also had a side of french fries and a side of slap sauce. Both the sandwich and fries were carefully made. I could tell that they pride themselves on producing a great food. The Chopped Cheese was full of flavor, the fries we're fried crispy on the outside, but soft on the inside. The flavorful Slap sauce was the perfect accompaniment for both. They recently renovated the interior, and I do really like the update--using lighter colors has brightened the space and made it feel more modern. Unfortunately, a recent experience seriously impacted my opinion. I called to place a takeout order for about five people from my workplace, and the young man who answered the phone--Adrian--was extremely rude. He seemed impatient from the start, and by the time I was giving the third order, he began huffing and puffing, talking over me, and rushing me. Before I could even finish, he hung up on me. His coworkers were saying his name in the background, which is how I learned who he was. Adrian's behavior showed a complete lack of basic customer service and professionalism, and it did not represent Maine Street well at all. If answering phones and taking orders is part of the job, then patience and respect should be a given. Adrian needs serious improvement in customer service, because that interaction alone was enough to make me reconsider ordering again. On a lighter note, this place has long been part of the fabric of Hamtramck, and that's why this experience was so disappointing. Hamtramck has always taken pride in its local spots, community, and hospitality, and I hope Maine Street gets back to reflecting the warmth and care that made so many of us loyal customers for years.

I ordered the kids pancakes and I ordered eggs hash and lamb chops and ask they be medium they brought them out over well done so I let the lady know . She took them and brought back some cooked on outside and literally completely raw on inside so I told her never mind paid bill and left. Will never return EVER.

I went in last week on a Tuesday and i was disgusted this place has to be the grosses pizza place i have ever been to , customer service sucks no one could barley speak english and all of the employees wear flip flops not only that but everyone is rude , food is greasy and they lie about it being halal. read more
