A part of me wants this place to remain a secret and to not write this spot a review. However, I cant rest knowing that this place has been around since 1929 and only has 19 reviews. This is definitely a blue collar type of place, surrounded by buildings and factories, its only open from 8 to 4 Mon- Sat and closes at 2 on Sundays. The fact its been around so long with those hours tells you that they get enough business. One wouldnt even think to stop by here for a delicious unique steak burger and some of the best chili fries ive ever had. It is DIVEY. But very clean. There are horseshoe counters, a small prep area in the middle, and a small kitchen in the back. There is one waitress, one prep/ dish person and a cook. The meat is freshly ground, shaped into a hot dog, and grilled. The lettuce and tomato are chopped and brought to you. The pickles and onions are pre chopped and served in community bowls, you just pass them around the counter to the other people. The fries are crispy, The chili is with beans and is like a chili gravy. It was so good. The hot dog was cooked perfect and was nice and firm, it had to be beef. I wish they werent 2.50 cuz i would eat 3 in a sitting. But i need fries and a burger too. Haha. Its a great, small, quiet little place. I hope it stays around, who knows if ill be able to make it back soon, but now its going to be a goal of mine.

I was originally hesitant to come here based on its location, but I'm sure glad I did. One of the most unique restaurants in the Metro Detroit area. Very friendly and attentive staff. The whole menu is affordable, but they are best known for their phenomenal, hot dog shaped burgers. I highly recommend giving it shot.

Delicious food, friendly staff, laid back. Marcus is known for there signature burgers which are served on a hotdogs bun. Yum

3.5 but the fries takes it to a 4. While rather simple, these burgers on a hot dog bun are pretty moist and tasty. The onions and relish pickle kick it up a notch. I tried one w/ bacon but the just cheese one was better. Tasted the hamburger more. The fries are superb. The type of fries you hope every diner like this has. Fresh, nice cut, big bag of fries for the carryout. You do need to eat about two of the burgers though. I was not full from one.

    Simple and delicious

Divey looking but very clean. This spot isnt open late at all so if you want a Marcus burger get there early. I've been here years ago and was very young but a after school regular because of the burger in a hot dog bun. I came in a few days ago and are you kidding me? Yup same folks still run it. Nice sweet lady took my order and was very polite. You ever in the mood for a good burger/slider please stop by.

Everything about Marcus screams blue collar. You know that their horse-shoe style counters are not only a brilliant innovation but totally unique to the restaurant. Ten people fit around one of these little horseshoes, and there's 6 of them in the diner. In their heyday, there were likely more than 60 people crammed into this approximately 20×40 room, scrambling to get a hearty lunch and head back to the factory floor. The cook yelling jokes at us, coupled with the wonderfully welcoming and pleasant waitress are part of the historic fabric and the culture that permeates and resonates from this slightly dilapidated diner. The restaurant is named after the burgers, for their distinctive rectangular shape. They are steakburgers, presumably made with ground round. The story told now is that they bought hot dog buns by mistake one day, and rather than getting new buns, they shaped their burgers to fit the buns. Of course, this tale stuck, and through ownership changes nobody knows the real story any longer (in this case, myth may be more important than truth). There are several varieties and combinations of burgers, none of them more than $3.25. They are cooked in a vat of oil, and then smothered in chili, or cheese, or nothing. They're served on a freshly steamed hot dog bun. The patty itself is good, not overseasoned, juicy and beefy in a lot of good ways. It doesn't soak through the bun, but the juices definitely drip into your mouth. They are cooked all the way through, but not overcooked, and you would be crazy to ask the cook to leave it in a little less long. The american cheese blankets the burger nicely, coats every bite, and makes you appreciate the American Whey. The video surveillance should have also captured the moment I was bear hugged, dragged through a dark hallway, and eventually thrown into a white sign outside. I received bruises and luckily nothing major happened like landing wrong on my head and getting a concussion and possible death (should I have had a bad landing after being tossed by this lady). As she grabbed me and before she threw me to the ground I pled with her that she did not need to do this, but she was very angry (probably because she was working on Halloween and saw me with 3 beautiful girls and she couldn't handle how well the costume looked on me - just speculating here.) I went to this place on Halloween 2025, by the time I was assaulted it was November 1st, 2025 because it was past midnight. I was with 3 other girls (I am a male). We waited in line to get in. I was dressed up as Spider-Man and the girl I was with was Catwoman. I am of Western European descent and maybe that was the issue, I was racially profiled by the woman hostess/bouncer because she was letting in the rest of the people except me and my crew. I proceeded to take my phone out and record her after the assault and take pictures of her so I could later report her. On top of that, there were gunshots nearby so I decided to uber home and report this later instead of right away with the owner. I am going to follow up with this place to make sure we can come to some understanding that assaulting customers is not ok and I will continue to spread the word about my experience if I am not adequately satisfied with their resolution (if there is one). Again, this place is bad news and you should stay away. I am willing to change this review if an apology and some sort of incentive is offered.

I don't drink alcohol often, but I noticed they had a good selection of hard cider. I decided to get the one that was on the top of the menu -- something with pineapple. It was sweet but very good. My sister had the Honest John's hard cider that was on draft. It wasn't as sweet, but it was good as well. I had the grilled johnny john sandwich -- chicken, swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce on grilled pita. It was very filling; I only ate half! My sister had the chicken Caesar wrap, with the same result. And upon learning this, it seemed pretty universal that Duly's was the favorite of all of them. So when my friend and I drove in from Cleveland, Duly's was literally our first stop. We waited maybe 5 minutes for a couple of seats to open up, and promptly ordered a couple of coney's each. I'm not exaggerating when I say I was taking my first bite less than 3 minutes later. And they were quite tasty. So tasty, in fact, that I ordered a third one. And some coffee to avoid a food coma. And my grand total was $13 lol. Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner here, and I'm glad that we got to experience it. We arrived in advance of our reservation and grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender brought us a glass of wine while we waited. It took about a half hour, but we were shown to our table for the night and promptly greeted by our server. All of the food looked amazing, both on the menu and with what people were ordering at other tables. We chose a variety of dishes - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, squid ink orecchiette, octopus, mushrooms, and scallops. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!

They recently renovated the interior, and I do really like the update--using lighter colors has brightened the space and made it feel more modern. Unfortunately, a recent experience seriously impacted my opinion. I called to place a takeout order for about five people from my workplace, and the young man who answered the phone--Adrian--was extremely rude. He seemed impatient from the start, and by the time I was giving the third order, he began huffing and puffing, talking over me, and rushing me. Before I could even finish, he hung up on me. His coworkers were saying his name in the background, which is how I learned who he was. Adrian's behavior showed a complete lack of basic customer service and professionalism, and it did not represent Maine Street well at all. If answering phones and taking orders is part of the job, then patience and respect should be a given. Adrian needs serious improvement in customer service, because that interaction alone was enough to make me reconsider ordering again.
