A part of me wants this place to remain a secret and to not write this spot a review. However, I cant rest knowing that this place has been around since 1929 and only has 19 reviews. This is definitely a blue collar type of place, surrounded by buildings and factories, its only open from 8 to 4 Mon- Sat and closes at 2 on Sundays. The fact its been around so long with those hours tells you that they get enough business. One wouldnt even think to stop by here for a delicious unique steak burger and some of the best chili fries ive ever had. It is DIVEY. But very clean. There are horseshoe counters, a small prep area in the middle, and a small kitchen in the back. There is one waitress, one prep/ dish person and a cook. The meat is freshly ground, shaped into a hot dog, and grilled. The lettuce and tomato are chopped and brought to you. The pickles and onions are pre chopped and served in community bowls, you just pass them around the counter to the other people. The fries are crispy, The chili is with beans and is like a chili gravy. It was so good. The hot dog was cooked perfect and was nice and firm, it had to be beef. I wish they werent 2.50 cuz i would eat 3 in a sitting. But i need fries and a burger too. Haha. Its a great, small, quiet little place. I hope it stays around, who knows if ill be able to make it back soon, but now its going to be a goal of mine.

I was originally hesitant to come here based on its location, but I'm sure glad I did. One of the most unique restaurants in the Metro Detroit area. Very friendly and attentive staff. The whole menu is affordable, but they are best known for their phenomenal, hot dog shaped burgers. I highly recommend giving it shot.

Delicious food, friendly staff, laid back. Marcus is known for there signature burgers which are served on a hotdogs bun. Yum

3.5 but the fries takes it to a 4. While rather simple, these burgers on a hot dog bun are pretty moist and tasty. The onions and relish pickle kick it up a notch. I tried one w/ bacon but the just cheese one was better. Tasted the hamburger more. The fries are superb. The type of fries you hope every diner like this has. Fresh, nice cut, big bag of fries for the carryout. You do need to eat about two of the burgers though. I was not full from one.

    Simple and delicious

Divey looking but very clean. This spot isnt open late at all so if you want a Marcus burger get there early. I've been here years ago and was very young but a after school regular because of the burger in a hot dog bun. I came in a few days ago and are you kidding me? Yup same folks still run it. Nice sweet lady took my order and was very polite. You ever in the mood for a good burger/slider please stop by.

Everything about Marcus screams blue collar. You know that their horse-shoe style counters are not only a brilliant innovation but totally unique to the restaurant. Ten people fit around one of these little horseshoes, and there's 6 of them in the diner. In their heyday, there were likely more than 60 people crammed into this approximately 20×40 room, scrambling to get a hearty lunch and head back to the factory floor. The cook yelling jokes at us, coupled with the wonderfully welcoming and pleasant waitress are part of the historic fabric and the culture that permeates and resonates from this slightly dilapidated diner. The restaurant is named after the burgers, for their distinctive rectangular shape. They are steakburgers, presumably made with ground round. The story told now is that they bought hot dog buns by mistake one day, and rather than getting new buns, they shaped their burgers to fit the buns. Of course, this tale stuck, and through ownership changes nobody knows the real story any longer (in this case, myth may be more important than truth). There are several varieties and combinations of burgers, none of them more than $3.25. They are cooked in a vat of oil, and then smothered in chili, or cheese, or nothing. They're served on a freshly steamed hot dog bun. The patty itself is good, not overseasoned, juicy and beefy in a lot of good ways. It doesn't soak through the bun, but the juices definitely drip into your mouth. They are cooked all the way through, but not overcooked, and you would be crazy to ask the cook to leave it in a little less long. The american cheese blankets the burger nicely, coats every bite, and makes you appreciate the American Whey. If you took their Catfish and Grits and stuck in a Downtown, Midtown or Eastern Market location, it'd cost at least $27. It comes with 3 huge filets of Catfish, 2 Eggs and Grits. Here, it's only $18 and there is a 0% chance you're not taking some home unless you're Kobyashi. The Chicken and Waffles was fantastic as well, and again, you're getting a huge portion for around $14. You are almost guaranteed to be taking some home. I was super impressed. The Catfish was well made and didn't have a ton of batter caked on to it which is my only deal breaker when it comes to Catfish. I put some hot sauce on it and it was fantastic with the Grits and Eggs. The Chicken on the chicken and waffles and juicy, hot and huge. It had a flavorful batter on it, but it wasn't too much to where you felt like they were chicken tenders off the kids menu. The service was awesome and our waitress was incredibly accommodating (Multiple Coffee refills, brought out a bunch of condiments, nice). The store owner was incredibly nice as well. The inside is a clean diner with comfortable booths. You're not packed in here and your party isn't spilling into other people's tables like other spots. It's a very relaxing spot to eat midday when you have things coming up and just need peace. This area of Van Dyke doesn't have many restaurants, so go and patronize this one that's a bit off the beaten path. You won't leave disappointed or hungry!

The menu is large and eclectic, which generally makes me nervous for the food. American, Asian, seafood...and Hawaiian. I was pleasantly surprised by how good my moco loco was, as good as I've had on the island. I had some of my friend's seafood crepe. It was interesting, I enjoyed a few bits, but would not order it. Our other friends enjoyed their bibimbap and stuffed salmon. The drinks were also good, though their cocktail list appeared to be from Christmas/winter. The interior is basic and modern, I did like that they have large doors that would open in warm weather. The only negative was the the service. Despite the restaurant not being busy we waited a long time for our food. Then we had to search for our server, who did not come back to check on us, to be able to pay.
