My parents have found a wonderful home at Spanish Bay! With some true memory and cognitive issues…read more(some of which are as much about transfer trauma as old age), Mom & Dad have settled in well at Spanish Bay. The staff understand the elderly and all of their needs. They have cared for them, while making them feel as though they were the part of a larger, extended family. The grounds are lovely, and Dad has the joy of watching nature and taking part in the gardening and watering of the tomato plants. Mom enjoyed the interaction with the other residents, and particularly liked taking part in the art activities~~~something that I had no idea would be such a favorite. Their room is spacious with large windows. They have all the issues that typically plague the elderly---they need help in the bathroom, bathing, transferring. They cannot medicate themselves. Meals must be provided. From a monetary standpoint, it has been a good exchange for the support that they have needed. We had some fluid moments, and I am very pleased that Spanish Bay accommodated their needs at a price point that was fair for all. After being their caregiver for several years, it wasn't easy letting them go. I have to say that Spanish Bay has been as supportive of me and my family as they have been of the folks. Growing old is difficult. You lose the ability to navigate life and the many different decisions that have to be made daily. Spanish Bay is exactly the environment that suited their health and social needs. If you looking for a true home for your elders, this is it!

I have taken five years to tour CCRC's from Oregon and California to AZ - and had many lunches and dinners with residents. I had to narrow it down to what was most important to me for the next phase of my life. If I needed a Ritz Carlton environment, or golf was central in my life, URC would not have stayed top on my list. However, access to the University, manageable traffic, the Mondavi Center, and the tree-lined Davis streets - added to URC's community support - made the transition pleasant. Luckily I am still healthy. So I can lock my apartment door and take off - knowing that URC's has my back for future health issues.

As we reflect upon our 2019 decision to select URC At Davis (URCAD), it was primarily based on…read more"word-of mouth" from residents and family members and friends of URC residents. The phrase that stood out was the quality of the food ("just like a high-end cruise ship"). When we made our URC reservation deposit in 2019, the URC Marketing representative said we could expect annual increases of 3.0% to 3.5% in our monthly occupancy fees. For our first year (2024) at URC we were proud to repeat the earlier positive reviews of URC. Unfortunately, more recently, our "word-of-mouth" for URC dining has become "mixed reviews" and the monthly occupancy fees have increased by 5.75% rather than the expected 3.0% to 3.5%. URCAD seems to be in a solid and strong financial position and enjoys a high occupancy (98% to 99%) rate each month and a long waiting list for new pending residents. The recent fee increases and dining disappointments are inconsistent with the strong URCAD financials, both current and projected. We remain hopeful that fresh resident initiatives will motivate URC and PRS management to limit future fee increases to 3.0% to 3.5% and restore services to previous commendable levels.

The staff at Astoria Vista II have been extremely kind. The home is very nice and my mother is quite comfortable. Early in her stay she had a stroke and had to go on hospice. We nearly lost her. The staff took wonderful care of her and she recovered and was stronger than when she arrived. My father and I are grateful to Roberta Kanter and the staff at Astoria Vista II for the exceptional care my mother receives. I highly recommend this board and care home to families that are searching. 3 years later ... My mother is back on hospice. Yolo Hospice sent out a wound care specialist because of this difficult stage. The nurse said she is receiving incredible care and really commended the staff on their diligence. I wouldn't wish this end of life suffering on anyone but if you need the help this is a wonderful home.

Not just for me, but because my son's count on me for guidance and I failed them. The last week, constant calls were made and we were relying on the right direction from the staff and the correct information.. We were told if we wanted to take my ex off of hospice, we would just have to call them. I just wanted to get him in the hospital, because of not drinking or eating (3 days), and now blood in urine (2 days increasing). I called yesterday morning, and they said they would meet us at the hospital to sign. No one ever showed, and finally got a call after calling them. Why am I upset? When the staff came out and attempted to give him them his needed medications, they failed. Yes he was agitated and refusing.. but yes this man has a brain tumor and his refusing or saying no, along with confusion and extreme aphasia.. just stop trying?. As each call got worse his care team never came up with an action plan.. Another gripe, every time I was told they would call me back, never happened.. Even the hospital shook their head, because of this situation. I would never want our situation to happen on anyone, so please keep calling when they don't return calls.. and push for them to be more active .. be the voice for your loved ones..

Residents with food on them, one laying in the floor, others on their bedding fully clothes in the same clothing for days at a time. There's definitely a storage of staff here, if an issue is addressed, they have excuses. The meals are substandard, the staff changes rapidly due to the fact that they are not qualified and seek better employment, the whole feel of the place is depressing. They spend a lot of money on image, but let the place fall apart. It is often voted best facility in Woodland because the administrators con every inmate to vote positive. When my mom decided that she needed to move into such a facility as this she choose The Califonian. At the time we did no comparing because she had made up her mind that that was the best. The units have no kitchen facilities except a sink. The first summer her unit reached a consistant 93 degrees regardless of having the cooling switch on. (We found out later the switch was not hooked up to anything. The administrators controlled the system) We eventually bought her a portable A/C rather than have her live so miserably. The frame of mind of these folks is don't complain, because there is so much you have to dend on them for. Any way there are to many things to mention than I can fit in this review. After her living there a year we had such a true sense of how horrible tbe place was we started looking around for a better facility. She is now in a place that is professionally run, has truely capable people working there, the cafeteria is more like a restaurant, the mood is amazing, and on top of that it is less expensive. All I can say is check around before you put your loved one in this hell hole. I can testify there are much better facilities for the same or less expenditure.
