This business owner made us a duplicate Lexus key and supposed to change a cracked shell on original key. When he was done, I went to the car to test the keys, 1 NEW key had a microcracked shell. I asked him to fix it and was told there are no more shells available, he will get new shell and fix it for me next week, no charge, no problem. Called him next week and no luck, Then sets up another appointment for Friday after next and he fixed the problem on a Sunday, gave us another new key with a shell. I had not paid for anything and was already helped by someone else, paid and the job was completed. Be Careful when dealing with this Locksmith. He said his name was Shay. He programmed a 4-button FOB for me, while knowing that I needed a 5-button FOB. He never asked my permission for the substitution, and I have been having problems with the FOB since 2-days after he programmed it. He never agreed to correct the problem. I bought a car and drove it from NYC to Philly without a problem. But after I got home I somehow activated the alarm system and could not step on the brake without my car siren sounding obnoxiously; essentially, I had a car that I couldn't drive. Contacted AM&PM yesterday and had an appointment for this morning for the car to be looked at; also, I wanted to make a spare key since I was only given one master key. Well, I think I was somehow lost in the system because the technician did not show within the time frame. But after I called back I was told that he would be there within the hour, and everything went uphill from then on. Shay was courteous and professional and disarmed the alarm system and made a transponder key for me in no time. The key cost $145 (so it's definitely more than what the previous reviewer paid for but I think it also depends on the car; I think $145 is still reasonable for a transponder key though); all in all I got me a new key and a drivable car for $225 so I think that was pretty decent. I am satisfied with the service and will use them again if I ever have the misfortune of experiencing lock problems in the future. Edit: Not even 20 mins after this review was up Shay called and apologized for being late to the appointment. He stated he would refund the service fee. I was very surprised and pleased that he took the time to look at the reviews and actually cared. As I said before, I was satisfied with the service because AM&PM really knew what they were doing. On a recent frigid winter morning, I realized that I had lost the only set of keys I have to my car (folks, always have a spare, somewhere). I originally called West Philadelphia Locksmith, but after a horrible phone experience with that company, I consulted Yelp for a second recommendation and found AM PM. The owner and locksmith who responded to my call, Shai, was courteous, professional and efficient. He managed to get from Northeast Philly to South Philly in about 45 minutes (during rush hour traffic, no less), and in a little over an hour, he had made not one but two keys to my car. I was pretty bummed out as a disaster struck due to a lost car key. VWs require special keys with a security chip in them, so they cannot be made at any hardware store. Dealers are notorious for overcharging and ripping you off. I searched a VW internet forum to educate myself on the requirements for the keys and the proper method to find a locksmith who specialized in them. some googling and checking of reviews brought me to AM&PM The owner, Shay, was able to set me up with an appointment the same day and he was even able to meet me sooner than scheduled-- as I had told him how dire the situation was with the key and such. Once I made it to AM&PM, Shay had my key made in @5-10 minutes. The prices were right in line with what I had found on the internet and without any dealer scams or hassles. As a bonus, Shay provided me with a more useful key than the only one I had left. The VW keys come in different forms--remote, master, and valet. You cannot re-program a remote without two keys--one of which must be a master. All I had was a valet key, but Shay's machine cuts them as a master. So, now if I get a remote key from ebay or amazon I can program it myself. Shay was also kind enough to offer me a discount on cutting the blanks for any remote keys I bring in. --However, keep in mind that YMMV when it comes to programmability of keys, fobs, and remotes. Some cars have special computer settings and will only recognize a key if you specifically re-program the car computer to do so. This will necessitate a trip to a dealer or knowing someone with the proper computer interface for your car. My VW was an older model, so it does not have this issue. I did not ask Shay if he had access to the computer stuff needed to program the keys for newer model VWs. In any case, I got another key made fast, it worked perfectly, and it is the better key to have than the valet key I had (which cannot open the trunk.) Now I can open every lock on the car and re-program remotes if needed. If you read the other reviews you will find that they are uniformly excellent. This locksmith treated me right and I would not hesitate to recommend him. Shay turned what I thought was going to be a complete hassle into a manageable situation and his work was impeccable. Since I was still on my way and stuck in traffic I felt bad and thought they would leave. Nope, he asked what I needed and did the work. So there I was...locked out of my new house with no spare keys any where. After I unsuccessfully tried to break in to my own house (including kicking the door and climbing over a 9 ft concrete wall to my backyard) I realized that I can either sit outside for the next 8 hours until my husband came home or call a lock smith. I called AM PM Locksmith after my bike key broke in the lock. I was able to coordinate a time with Shay to come assess the situation and free my bike. We discussed options: 1.) dig broken key out and leave the bike until a replacement key arrived OR 2.) cut the lock. He said that even with the broken key removed the lock couldn't be picked so we decided to cut the lock and in a few short seconds my bike was free again. Very dissapointed. Despite all the great reviews here I did not have a good experience. Needed an ignition lock cylinder replaced in my car. Was told at 9 am someone would be out by 1. The locksmith called me at 12:30 and said he was 45 to an hour away. Didn't show up until after 2 o'clock. I was charged $325 for the job, which is ridiculous but I was stuck and had to get the car off the street, which I think he knew that. And he left my car a complete mess. After 50 minutes I called back and after another 5 minutes they called back and said it would be 15 more minutes...25 minutes after that, still no locksmith. So...if you're locked out don't call these guys...they are completely undependable. Fortunately a neighbor came home who is clever with tools. I would give 0 stars if that were an option but alas it isn't. Update: I cancelled the service (and received a text confirming the cancellation)...but the locksmith then called and said he was "3 minutes away". I told him I had cancelled. Needed to have an electric keypad lock installed (Schlage). Shay provided a reasonable quote ($110) and while I was flexible on date of installation, he was able to fit me in his schedule the day after initial contact. While he arrived an hour later than the appointment, I was fine with that. However, that's where the positive review ends. Hopefully, he was just having a bad day but he basically came in, installed the lock, and IT DID NOT WORK. We tried to figure out what was wrong with it and he suggested that it was due to a defect in the lock itself (I had just bought it from Amazon a day ago and this was not my first time hiring someone to install this type of lock). He did try to see what was wrong with it at my request but seemed that he didn't want to be here or cared that the lock that he installed DID NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK. I then called Schlage's customer service and he seemed to be in a rush to get to either another appointment or just somewhere else even though he was only here for ~30 minutes and came an hour late. He just told me to stay on the line with customer service and that they could fix whatever was wrong with the keypad and then he left. I have never experienced this type of service where a locksmith does not properly install a lock and just leaves and tells me that I can call him later after I'm done with customer service to provide him my credit card info for billing. After 30 minutes on the phone with Schlage's customer service and using my regular screwdriver to take apart the entire lock, customer service instructed me to re-put the lock together and tried to determine the source of the problem. Turns out that the AA batteries were put in incorrectly (+/- on the wrong side). After having fixed the keypad and lock myself, I called Shay to let him know that customer service had helped me fix it and the source of the problem. He did not seem to care at all. I still paid him the $110 because a contract is a contract but feel like this was the worst service I have ever had. I manage rentals on the side and am new to Philly so this was my first time hiring someone in the local area. I will never use this service again and could have just done this on my own had I realized that paying an expert who doesn't care about the actual job, in this case, was a total waste of time and money. I don't mind the attitude or impatience but I don't understand how someone can just leave in the middle of a job unresolved and still only care about getting paid and being out of the place in 30 minutes. read more
