Wish I could give half stars because I would say this place was closer to 2.5 stars. My boyfriend and I had a day pass for facials and to use the amenities. I definitely recommend getting an early appointment if possible because the locker room got overcrowded around 12 and I had to wait in the seating area for about 30 minutes to use any amenities in there. The showers, steam room, and hot tub attached to the locker rooms were nice though and the robes they gave us to use were great quality. The pool was also very nice. The facial itself was great but I was not happy with the the staff. When I entered the room, the lady asked me about dermaplaning and if that's what I was there for. I explained that my boyfriend booked the appointment so whatever he paid for was what I was there for. She said okay then asked again to make sure my skin wouldn't have any bad reactions to dermaplaning and did the facial. When we went to check out for the day, the total was more than expected so I asked about the bill. The lady at the desk mentioned dermaplaning was an additional charge. I was definitely annoyed that the first lady tricked me into that for what I assume is a larger automatic tip, but I was also annoyed that the lady at the desk didn't even apologize for the misunderstanding after I explained my frustration. Since my boyfriend paid, I am not sure if the price was worth it in my opinion, but he said that the day at the spa was not worth the price especially after the added gratuity. I wish I could give this spa a 4.5 stars. It's more than 4 but not quite 5. It's a small spa but very cozy and comfortablez the Spanish architecture is so beautiful and rustic. The spa is equipped with showers, toiletries, a private hot tub, multiple sitting areas and a relaxation room, as well as a steam room. The only thing missing that I would add is a sauna. I got a facial with Moriah and she was wonderful. She was so attentive and detailed and made me feel so relaxed. I didn't want it to end! She seemed very knowledgeable and was very nice. I would definitely get a facial with her again. After my facial, I took a dip in the hot tub and enjoyed the steam room before heading to the pool for lunch. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass tacos and they were Devine. I paired them with a watermelon margarita and had the most delightful afternoon. I've been to The Royal Palms multiple times and I'm never disappointed. I will always recommend this spa to out of town guests and I love to coming here to relax and feel like I'm on a mini vacation. We had such a lovely time at the Alvadora Spa. I purchased a Groupon for my Fiancé & I and we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We were greeted by a kind gentleman who guided us over to the spa from the valet. We checked in & were directed to the locker room to secure our belongings. Alvadora provides fruit infused water right outside of the lobby. The spa is very small, but it is clean. They have 2 showers and a steam room in the locker room. They also have a women's only hot tub located on the terrace. Our massage therapist greeted us with scented neck warmers & guided us to our couples massage room. The therapists left the patio door opened during our session so we could hear the serene sounds of the water fountain. Mariah did a wonderful job with my massage. She applied a good amount of pressure and made sure to get all the tension out of my neck. After our massages, we caught a vibe at the resort pool. Overall, had a wonderful self-care day at the Alvadora Spa! I think there were some opportunities considering how much they charge for their services. Massage 5/5 - I got the Custom Massage from Judy and she was phenomenal. She asked for areas I wanted her to focus on and delivered. Pressure was perfect, oils she used smelled so nice, and it was one of the best spa massage experience ever. Amenities 3/5 - Showers had a slight "egg-y" smell to them upon walking in. Private hot tub was very nice but also very small, so it was awkward to sit there with just another woman using it besides me. Steam room was very nice. Robes were cozy, but not the most comfortable robe I've tried on. Biggest complaint I had was that the relaxation room is located right next to the pool gate. So whenever someone used the gate, I would hear a loud banging noise. That was a bit of a turn off and I had to leave the room. Services 3/5 - I was greeted by a very friendly front desk attendant, but after checking in, received a very rushed tour. Even though I told her it was my first time at the spa, she didn't list all the resort amenities I had access to. After my massage, I noticed other spa guests using the main pool outside so I went to go ask her how to get there. Upon walking up to the desk, the attendant was sitting there with her head on the table. I had to "wake her up" verbally to get her attention and ask my questions. I bought a Groupon for my mom and I to get a facial & massage for her bday! When we arrived, we were greeted by valet which was free if you were just there for the day! We checked into the spa and were escorted into the beautiful woman's locker room where you can shower and enjoy the steam room. The robes were so comfy and soft, we wished we could take them home! We then headed to the pool before our appointments and relaxed for a few hours. The pool is beautiful and has a bar where you can order drinks and food which we did not as we ate before hand. We then relaxed in the relaxation room with complimentary tea before our appointments. My mom loved her facial and was definitely glowing afterwards! And I very much enjoyed my massage with Judy, she did a wonderful job & had the perfect amount of pressure. I had an incredible massage by Mercedes, she listened to all my needs and I came out of there feeling like a millions bucks. My daughter and I booked a massage here at the last minute. Surprisingly this spa has a quaint, old fashioned vibe to it, very Mediterranean. We checked in and were shown around, donned some super soft and comfy robes. We then went into the waiting room where nuts and coffee and tea were offered. I've been coming to the alvadora spa in the Beautiful Royal Palms resort for many years and although there are plenty of high end spas in Scottsdale, it's the massages I keep coming back for. My therapist this time, Julie, was obviously very experienced and was able to hit all the tender spots with the perfect amount of pressure. It's a small spa so not the gross opulence of a gaudy vegas joint; but more of a personal touch which is appreciated here in Arizona. Had an amazing massage here!! I loved that the massage rooms had windows that opened up to a fountain so you could listen to the relaxing sounds during the treatment. The check-in was great, relaxation room was nice, overall fantastic staff and facility! My only complaint is that the robes are not very comfortable, pretty scratchy material actually for a luxury spa, but not worth taking off a star. I was in bliss! After telling the front desk girl that my time was shorted she was uninterested and offered a 20% off for the next visit and then informed me I had to leave 20% gratuity and was not an option. My husband and I went here to get a couples massage for our anniversary present. And I really must say I was really quite disappointed in the facilities! The massage was great! Dave it was my masseuse and he was incredible and my husband enjoyed his massage as well! However I really thought that the facilities were lacking. The shower wasn't anything special in fact my shower is like that at home so that was disappointing. I also didn't care for the steam room that much because it really didn't get hot. There was a lot of steam in there but it never got hot. In fact, I never even broke a sweat. There is no sauna so that was also another disappointment. And the cushions outside on the lawn chairs were dirty! If this is supposed to be a five-star hotel they should pay attention to the little details like clean pillows outside on the lawn chairs! I don't think I will go back here again although David was phenomenal! Spare yourself the disappointment! There are far too many outstanding spas here in the Scottsdale Phoenix area to go to! Spent the day here and enjoyed my experience. The lady at the front desk, Shay, was friendly and a delight to interact with. She really made us feel welcome. She recommended yoga in the garden which was a great way to start the day. The amenities are small but I don't think it's a bad thing. I've been to spas where the 'relaxation' room is jam packed with women waiting to be called. They have limited treatment rooms. The massage was excellent, my masseuse David was great. The only bad thing is that the oil was cold. We had lunch by the pool, service was a little slow but if you are relaxing what is the rush. Originally planned to go here with my mother for her birthday but sadly, day-of, she wasn't feeling too great. I did have to cancel her service but the staff were so incredibly kind about it! I ended up still going by myself and I got a 50 minute facial with (I'm so sorry if this isn't the right name but I believe it was close to) Kristina. :-) They did a magnificent job with helping me feel cared for, safe, and informed the entire time. They really took their time explaining things to me and making sure I left comfortable and confident with my new skincare recommendation/adjustment that I asked for. I did take advantage of the amenities afterward- The jacuzzi and the pool were both beautiful and well-maintained. While there was no sauna access this time around (either due to maintenance or Covid-related-safety, which I appreciate) but I am looking forward to that opening back up in the future! The grounds were beautiful as well- I love the mediterranean feel, I truly felt transported to a little oasis right in the middle of the desert. We enjoyed the hot tub and the eucalyptus steam room but if the property was busy it would be too small to accommodate many guests. Had treatments at the Alvadora Spa over Memorial Day on a staycation weekend at the Royal Palms. The staff are extremely nice and professional. The facilities were clean and treatments allow for access to the pool for the day. They do still currently require masks in the spa facility for everyone protection. Each locker room has nice amenities along with a steam room and jacuzzi. They serve spa water, coffee and tea in the relaxation lounge for before and after treatment enjoyment. I had a 80 min custom massage and enjoyed every minute. Mariah was attentive and applied the perfect pressure. She was thorough and made the massage relaxing and enjoyable. Stayed at the Royal Palms for a few days last month for a little getaway. I thought I'd treat myself to a mani pedi and opted for the more expensive ones as they sounded most relaxing and the best options (the Mediterranean). The entrance of the spa is beautiful, staff is very pleasant and friendly. However when I walked in the seating for the pedicure was similar to outside patio wooden furniture with a cushion on top, not the most relaxing. The lady who did my nails was so nice so it almost pains me to leave this review. However, when it came down to expectations of both manicure and pedicure I was dissatisfied. They both stated 45 minutes each, which is possibly how long it did last. With it being $65 for pedi and about $50 for the mani I thought there would maybe be some form of foot/leg/hand massage but that didn't happen. When I left I took pics to send except it looked like I already had the growth of a week with the polish not covering my entire nails. Amazing resort, next time I'll skip the spa. read more

We decided to get a massage and saw a Groupon offer at this spa for a 50 minute massage. Booking a same day massage appointment for two people at the same time was pretty easy. It was on a weekday however, so that might have been it! We arrived here 2 hours before our massage to take advantage of the spa facilities, which included a nicely kept locker room with showers, jacuzzi, a pool with a plethora of chairs, and the relaxation room equipped with tea, water, and light snacks. I subtracted one star because of the loudness of some of the patrons at the pool along with the dirty pool water. The massage was decent. The masseuse listened to how hard I wanted the pressure to be. The room was super clean, fragrant, dimly lit, and relaxing. However, I docked another star because of how she would sigh really loudly all throughout my massage - it was pretty distracting! Overall, my spa experience here was decent but it didn't amaze me. I am hard to please. So when I saw the reviews of Alvadora after I made a massage reservation, I was scared it was going to be awful. Having had my appointment today, I was pleasantly surprised. From the valet to the check-out, it was an excellent experience. The valet was very efficient, and they directed me to the spa. The walkways to the spa from the valet are quite beautiful. I was there early and was able to take photos of the grounds without many people around. The entrance to Alvadora is tucked away and makes you feel like you are in a secret hacienda garden. So quaint and quiet. I was greeted as I entered and was quickly shown the layout, including the relaxation area, lockers, steam room and showers. Everything was very clean and orderly. The steam room smelled amazing and yes, it could use updated tile work, but people saying it's covered in mold is simply not accurate. There is some discoloration and a little mold in corners, but this is a steam room -- a room that is wet all day long. A little mold shouldn't be a surprise. My massage was fantastic. I've had a lot of massages and this one is definitely in the top five. The room was very large, clean and well-appointed. It had a gorgeous view of the mountains and the bed was very comfortable and adjustable. The massage therapist was very nice, asked what I wanted to focus on, and followed my direction to a tee. You also get access to the resort's pool; however, I did not use it, but from what I saw, it was a very nice and relaxing spot. Overall, for the price of just one spa service, you have access to a lot of amenities that you can use all day. The room I had my treatment in was so relaxing, the outdoor shower a night addition to my scrub. Mariah provided my treatment and made the experience even more relaxing while providing warm towels for my neck for extra comfort, spraying lavender (I think) spray around and prepping me for the details of my treatment. The Royal Palms is beautiful, and while the spa's amenities are nice (eucalyptus steam room, beautiful courtyard, etc.) I got a $50 manicure that was terrible. The color I selected was a little clumpy (maybe an old bottle) so the manicurist threw it out and just grabbed another color for me-- which I hate. I'm very particular about nail color-- all pinks are not the same, you know?! But she selected a sheer peach from the line that's more quick drying since we were already behind schedule when the first color failed. I decided to not say anything since I wasn't sure if she had another appointment after me- but 3 days after the manicure, they look seriously awful. Peeling at the cuticles and mysterious dark patches! I've had much better service at my trusty neighborhood nail shop where they only charge $25. Asked for shoulder and neck work, ended up with endless scalp massage (and it wasn't good scalp massage). A lot of rubbing, but very little actual massage or "kneading." Expected so much more, but left disappointed. Doesn't compare in quality or service to other local high-end resorts. This started from the moment we entered the premises to valet our vehicle. We really weren't greeted, just handed a ticket and sent on our way. Finding out own way to the spa we went to check in early for our evening 80 minute massages so we could enjoy the pool and amenities. We were shown to the locker room to change and we went straight to the pool. The pool area is very small since it is a small resort and makes you feel like you are in your backyard. The service at the pool was horrible. We stood around trying to find chairs and once we did had to get our own towels to lay down. Once we were settled we waited forever for a server to come by, but finally had to call someone over. We ordered drinks that took forever and then ordered food that also took forever. The portions were very small, but I must say the food was excellent. We were a little surprised that in the middle of March the pool wasn't heated. It didn't stop us from going in, but just another area where they fall short. After several hours we went to get ready for our massages. The waiting room offers tea, water, fruit, dried fruit and nuts. I went to make tea and the water. I went to make tea & the water had not been changed in awhile so it was ice cold and couldn't make tea. They had also run out of most snacks. I guess to be expected when having a spa service in the evening. The massages were no better or worse than anywhere else you could go. Overall we left disappointed and will not be back. read more

My boyfriend and I were at the Royal Palms for a long weekend on a spur-of-the-moment trip, and were lucky to get in for massages and a manicure at Alvadora at the last minute - ease of scheduling was a plus, but that's about as good as it got. When I checked in the attendant was pleasant, but didn't really explain the spa amenities or ask if I needed a locker so I had to go back out to get a key after I'd done some exploring on my own. The massage (50 minute custom) was okay - and I know it's hard to complain about ANY massage! - but quite odd: there was a lot of rubbing and strange pushing in random places, and the flow was kind of erratic and uneven without really seeming to target major muscle groups. The therapist (Judy) was pleasant enough and responded to requests, but the room was quite basic. I wish I'd saved the $165 that this one massage cost for two massages from my fantastic therapist at home. The manicure, sadly, was even more disappointing. The manicurist (Jerry) was a little rough on my fingers and cuticles, cutting them too far back so they were peeling the next day; she didn't clean the filings out from under my nails, there was no exfoliation or hand massage, and the whole thing was just pretty sloppy. The color selection was minimal, and the polishes looked old - like they'd been on the shelf for a while. I asked the manicurist if the color I'd selected was opaque or translucent - I wanted an opaque ballerina pink - and she stared at me and replied, "It's like chalky," which is apples to oranges, right?! I said, "You mean it's a matte finish, instead of gloss?" and she said, "Yeah, it's not shiny." So I was like, "But is it going to be see-through or not?" and I don't think she had any idea what I was asking. I picked a different color anyway, and when it was applied it was... translucent. Whatever. The worse part is that after it had dried the polish was full of tiny bubbles and was uneven and chipping within 24 hours. I feel like such a jerk complaining about the privilege of getting my nails done, but for $50 I really think it should be perfect. The spa itself is nice, but nothing extraordinary. It's a little small, and needs to be updated. Overall: underwhelming. It was still a relaxing and luxurious afternoon, but I kind of wish I'd spent my money elsewhere. read more
