Good food for a great price, just order a Patty Melt with fries for under 10 dollars. The rye bread was fresh, they cooked my patty was cooked perfectly medium just the way I like it, the onions and mushrooms were not undercooked (a problem I often run into at other diners). Only problem I had with the melt was that they put an extra piece of cheese at the bottom of it that wasn't completely melted, wish they would have spent a few extra mins to melt it or just not even bother adding an unnecessary piece of cheese. But the melt was tasty and juicy so the good outweighed the one miniscule problem. Fries were warm and filled the plate, also liked that the fries still had potato skin on them. Definitely would order this meal again and also plan to order different dishes off the menu. read more

Alton's, a restaurant granted great grace by the mythical Greek gods to forever be able to serve the greatest souvlaki conceivable. No really, Aphrodite may as well be slinging the grille because the chicken souvlaki is sexual. Amidst the bustle of the Galleria Mall is Alton's, an inexpensive, casual place to grab a bite however you're dressed. While the interior decor is pretty blasé, the quickness in which you'll be seated and served makes up for it. Every time I go to Alton's I'm at least sipping a fizzling glass of delicious fountain soda within minutes through the door. Now let me declare that I have only had few things from the menu. The chicken souvlaki, chicken finger sub, and the fried chicken. I'm realizing now that I may need to broaden my horizons. Nevertheless, two of the three are quite fantastic. The chicken souvlaki is an excellent, no brainer of an order. If you've had a hankering for souvlaki it is really, very much so worth the drive. The salad is always fresh and crispy, the dressing is perfectly mixed and delightful, the chicken is as tender as the night, and the pita bread is as dry as the Gobi. Yeah, major bummer. The dish itself is phenomenal, but just plan on pushing the pita bread to the side. The chicken finger sub...not really much to describe, but it's always a pleasing selection. As good as Jim's Steakout? In a cleaner way, yes. It doesn't feel so much like I'm polluting my body eating a chicken finger sub from Alton's. Once upon a time I strayed from the norm and ordered the fried chicken meal. Absolutely terrible. Entirely overcooked, dry, tasteless, and the portion sizes were really small. Likely because it had its existence nearly fried away. The vegetables that came on the side had no taste, I may as well been chewing water. The mashed potatoes were ok once I had sufficiently seasoned them. A let down, since I thought Alton's had the art of cooking chicken down. I forgot, I had breakfast at Alton's once. Eggs over easy, sausage, hash and toast. I applaud that breakfast. Well worth a try over Denny's or another chain. The servers are usually pretty good. Recently I had a fresh soda on my table before I had finished the one I was working on. This is like. Since I don't drink much soda and I don't have a fountain machine at home, I enjoy my fountain beverages very much when I'm out. The cost is pretty reasonable. Which is important since I'm perpetually unemployed. Two can usually eat for under $25. It's well worth the trip outside of the city or if you want to stay astray from the chain restaurants around the mall. read more

I was with a group of 12 people & we had a reservation at another place that night where we were treated horribly before we were even seated. We went to Alton's instead, we were seated right away & had the best service & great food. We all left with a smile & full tummies. The prices were reasonable & the waitresses really went out of their way for us. The only criticism I have is that Alton's doesn't take reservations; otherwise they would've been our first choice to go to that night. read more

Breakfast at this place is out of this world. I had the beef souvlaki breakfast which contained not only a rather large souvlaki, but a generous amount of eggs and home fries and toast on the side. I couldnt finish it all but i tried. Now this was good, but my collegue had the breakfast melt. I had one bite and thats all it took to convince me that this is the best breakfast sandwich ever made. Its bacon and turkey with a scrambled egg topped with fresh cheese on sourdough toast and i just about passed out from flavor overload. I love breakfast sandwiches but this one is probably the best i have had in a very long time. We also had corned beef hash on the table, not sure who ordered it, but it was eating it and it was tasty, my last collegue was not as adventurous and had some pancakes and said once again they were pretty darn good, so everyone is happy at Altons. I will be back, i promise you. Next time i am either having the chicken souvlaki breakfast or the breakfast melt, or maybe both or return two days in a row, i dont know, but i will be back for sure, even the coffee was good, and the service is prompt and the tables were clean so for a tasty breakfast of comfort food, this is what i like to see. In town on business looking for a regular meal. Started with house salad, came with the meal, very basic. Had the meatloaf with veg and mashed. Two good slices of meatloaf but looked like they were reheated on a flattop and were dry. Mashed and gravy were average. Vegetables were slightly overlooked but fine. Service was very good. I stopped ordering from Alton's about two years ago so maybe they have changed. I really, really love their food. Their chicken Quesadilla and open beef Slovakia are awesome. I stopped ordering because on my last visit I ordered pick-up and the guy behind the counter was very rude. I had ordered pick-up about 16 to 17 times the last time I walked in and asked for my order. I pull out my credit card and the guy behind the counter says the price and THEN says "and tip." Who am I tipping? I picked it up. Also who says and tip? What makes you think I have never tipped? I tip very well thank you. I always tip very well when I sit down or order delivery anywhere i eat even if the service is shitty because I do not want them to think i am a bad customer. I left a tip anyway do not ask me why. I am a very non confrontational person - in other words a wimp. The other times i ordered from Alton's They were very nice. Just this one guy. Horrible! We waited over 35 minutes for our food. People that were seated long after we were received their food before us or shortly after we received ours. My grandson ordered french toast and bacon and I order a battered fish sandwich with a bowl of soup and my husband ordered a royal sub, not a hard order. The soup came and it was room temperature warm not very warm at all. My grandson's food and mine sat under the heat lamps for 35 minutes and we watched our food get shuffled around. We watch my husband's sub get put up fresh and our food was brought to us and I asked for mayo for my sandwich. While the waitress went to get my mayo I looked at my sandwich and it looked like a piece of plastic food. From sitting under the heat lamps for so long it cooked it more and dried it out enough to make it look like fake food. Waitress came back and I told her I was not going to eat that and told her that it sat under the heat lamp for so long that it dried it out and made it inedible. She asked if she could get anything else but from the looks of what was just placed in front of me made me lose my appetite. She apologized and looked for the manager but couldn't find him and when she did find him she showed my food. He didn't even come to the table to apologize. The meal was removed from our check as it should have been. As we left I let the cashier know what a horrible meal I had and how I lost my appetite. She told to wait a minute and as she started to walk away the manager walked up to get some menus. She told I wanted to talk to him. I explained about my meal and his reply was to me was, "well, I took the meal off your bill." No apology at all, nothing but an argument on how he took the meal off my bill. Well I wasn't going to pay for a meal I didn't eat anyways. I am not sure if I will ever go back there again after the way I was treated by the manager. I've been a loyal Alton's customer ever since I moved to Buffalo in 2004. Best chicken souvlaki breakfast ever, I absolutely love it. However what prompted me to write this review today and not give 5 stars is that upon this mornings visit I see that they have gotten rid of half the counter space. Why on earth they would do this is beyond me. We love coming here BECAUSE of the counter and interacting with the wait staff, watching the cooks, etc. It's got an old school feel you can't find many places anymore. Fifteen years ago I used to work third shift dispatch for a security company around the corner and we ordered from Alton's every week. I always got their Philly Cheese Steak with fries and my co-worker always got the Chicken Souvlaki. Their prices were great, the portions were great and they were open in the wee hours. Three days ago a friend of mine was in from out of town and I asked him what his Buffalo food check list was. He mentioned beef souvlaki, and memories of Alton's came flooding back, so I recommended we order on the way back from a convention downtown. Astonishingly enough, they've barely changed a thing, and if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? The portions were a little smaller but the prices were still exactly the same as their 2000 menu. I went with (you guessed it) the Philly Cheese Steak ($8.99) and my buddy Duane got the Beef Souvlaki ($8.99). My steak sandwich came on a short, six inch sub roll with a modest order of fries. Duane's souvlaki was garnished with the pitas on top, steak on the side and sealed portions of dressing. To top this all off, our order was ready in fifteen minutes after we phoned it in on a Friday night and their parking lot was at maximum capacity! While they're not the best nor the worst diner I've ever been to, you get a good value for your money and the food is dependably good. And if you work a swing shift job and you're looking for a new spot to get hot, fresh comfort food at 3 in the morning, give them a shot! read more

Stopped in for lunch. They have counter seats you can just go up to if open seats. Very quick service if your in a hurry. You could be in and out in 30 min. I wish that I could give zero stars!!!!!! I've been a customer of Alton's for years! I've enjoyed bringing out of town company, family and friends here for a delicious meal at a great price. Well tonight, my "go to" spot may have to change. I ordered a turkey club sandwich and asked to pick it up at 10:30. I work the overnight shift and planned on picking up my dinner on the way in. Upon my arrival the host told me it would be a few moments. I stood and waited patiently- I watched as he gave attitude to customers as they came in. This is not the alton's I have come to know and love. As I waited- the restaurant became busy. He continues to tell me that mine is on the way. Finally he brings over 4 bags as if they were mine. I tell him all I have is a turkey club. To which he says "f*ck, I forgot to put in the ticket" he continues and gets an attitude with me about it! Now I'm late for work and have no food. He tells me it'll only be a few minutes. But I've already waited 20... I ask for my money back and the girl at the register tells me it takes 5-7 days. We were taken here by some friends for a celebration dinner. Went around 5pm on a weekday and was dead, so we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very polite and did her job very well. The main reason we came was because one of our party members require gluten free and here they have a good gluten free menu. Unfortunately they were out of the one item she came to get, but she found something else. I went with the Chicken Parm and two glasses of a Cab they had. I thought my dinner was very good, the wine wasn't too bad for a place that doesn't seem to specialize in any type of alcohol. Wow Alton's was a great find for our family while traveling through Buffalo on our way to Chicago. Super family friendly restaurant with large portions and everything we ordered was both fresh and well prepared. My little one loved his porkchops served with steamed veggies, baked potatoe and apple sauce while my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our chicken souvlaki with salads. We also tried the spanakopita and Greek lemony roasted potatoes...the spanakopita was served warm wrapped in a perfectly flaky and buttery filo and my Greek husband enjoyed the roasted potatoes...he said the only thing missing was Greek roasted chicken to go with the potatoes :-). We were soooooo full but simply could not pass up the chance to eat baklava AND cheesecake combined into baklava cheesecake....so good! Great food in a traditional 1980'ish style family restaurant with friendly service. Definitely make time to stop here if you find yourself in Buffalo. I called to place an order for an omelette, and i was asking to swap out peppers for mushrooms. I asked the lady if it was possible to do so and heard her ask a manager. I was able to hear him then re-ask the same question, and follow it with "this guys asking all kinds of questions". I told the lady that i heard him and that was kind of rude, and she replied "that's okay, that's how you learn", And when i told her i don't think i was being rude for asking questions about the food i was going to pay for, she said oh okay and nothing else. No apology, nothing. I had wanted to ask a follow up question about my sides but obviously i couldn't after hearing complaints from my first question. So i basically just got stuck with whatever it came with. Very unprofessional and has left a bad taste in my mouth for this location. Went their w/ a person that just had a transplant. You can tell by looking at the person they are ill (skin coloring, bald and no eyebrows). The person cannot drink anything from a pump (pop) due to the illness or have ice from a machine.Also, the person is on a limited diet. This is not a simple task and it truly can put the person back in the hospital. The person asked if they had any bottled drinks and they said NO. The person said they I will have to drink my bottled water that I brought and they told him NO. We had to leave. So much for trying to get a sick person out of the house for a simple meal. Alton's is good in a pinch if you have a hungry group with a lot of different preferences. I have been here a few times over the years and they do have an expansive menu. Lots of choices for breakfast, Greek items, more "upscale" larger dinners and more. They are also open almost all the time, minus late night Sunday. The food is decent to good. I have other family style restaurants I would probably prefer over it. The atmosphere is interesting. You can go from elderly customers, large families, to what my parents and I experienced which was a 'business deal nearly gone wrong' the last time we were here. I have found the service to be slow compared to other restaurants even with a lot of waitstaff. Waited way too long for our waitress recently to take our order. My parents had a long trip back and that just added on time as waitress took orders from other patrons before us. They also had a large cart of dirty dishes right next to us because they were missing a bus boy. I get trying to help the waitresses out, but it was gross. I personally prefer going across the parking lot to their "fast food" restaurant Milton's for better food/value. read more

It's the sort of place where you a have a lot of menu options, a clean booth/table, friendly service, and a tasty, budget-friendly meal. If i could give this restaurant negative stars i would. The food was decently alright. But, the service was so so terribly bad. We had a waitress who was incredibly rude and was whispering and talking about us to this other old lady waitress and laughing at us right in front of us. She was very slow getting our four drinks that were all the same just so you know it wasn't a huge request and she somehow took 15 minutes to give us our drinks and another 20 minutes to give us refills. The food took almost 50 minutes to reach the table and was okay i guess. But the service was one of the worst i've seen. I would mabye go back if i had a whole different waitress. Great family restaurant . Reminds me of a Frish's BigBot or a Shoney's without the commercialization of it. Old decor and old feel but it was much better than one of those places. Kids thought it was great and my wife liked it since they had a gluten free menu. I got a roast beef on weck which is a buffalo thing andI liked it. Basically a roast beef sandwich and the roll has salt and something else stuck to the top. Gave it a good contrast flavor.
