I "bricked" a Dell laptop when a BIOS update went bad causing the laptop to no longer boot up at…read moreall, just beeped an error code for a bad BIOS. Before the BIOS update, the laptop was in perfect working order passing ALL the Dell diagnostics & booted into a fresh install of Windows. I sent it to Parts-People for just a reflash, even if it was back to the original version A10. I figured they could revert back to A10 that was working. They re-flashed the BIOS to version A12 from another motherboard and everything was told it was booting and working in Windows. Then they retried to update the BIOS to A15 and got an error code for a bad CPU when done. Why is that when it was working perfectly before the update, you would think that A15 was a bad update and revert back to A12. I argued the point and told them I would have been happy with that but they insisted that I needed a new motherboard. My dumb ass let them replace the motherboard instead of arguing the point, which I should have done. They replaced the board and updated the BIOS to A15 with everything working fine and booting into Windows. It didn't stop there. When I got the laptop back, booted into Windows, I was shocked to see a 2 inch by 1/2 inch black spot on my screen! I have no idea how that got there but I was not happy. I called to dispute the issue & was told that it was there when they got it to boot up the first time. Their resolution was that I had to purchase the screen for about $60 and they would eat the shipping both ways and the labor to install it. That was it, I got pissed off and told them how I really felt about the service I got & hung up. This was my FIRST time and is my LAST time they will get ANY more repairs from me. I just will not update a BIOS on any system if it's working & testing fine.

The webcam turned out to be at least $20+ more than retail price (Logitech Communicate STX) and the store's abysmal return policy (7 days only, no refunds, only in-store credit) makes you wonder if they sell anything at all other than cell phone plans and Time Warner Cable. No luck with the wireless adapter, and barely a selection of boxed hardware. They also stock a huge collection of 3rd party brands that I was very suspicious of. A store that is exploiting less-knowledged consumers and should be avoided at all costs. Even though the UT campus computer store might feel pricey, they actually have better prices there. And the staff there is a lot more friendlier there too.

It was unclear which of my six memory sticks were causing the trouble, but they simply replaced all six to help ensure no future problems by sending a new, compatible, set of six sticks. The only inconvenience was when I had to send all my memory sticks to them first. I do understand that this is probably to protect them from fraud, as I suppose there is no guarantee that holding your credit card number will protect them from customers who BS and don't send any product for replacement. HOWEVER, when it was their turn to send the replacement product, it came very promptly. Like magic, on the SAME DAY that I was advised my product was shipped via FedEx ground (I am in Canada), FedEx delivered. (So special thanks to FedEx as well). Based on my (admittedly only one) experience, this is a no-excuses company that doesn't make you jump through unreasonable hoops to get a warranty replacement. Combined with courteous and competent customer service, it has been a pleasure to deal with them.
