I rescued a puppy, there is enough puppies in the world that need homes so when she was old enough I wanted to get her spayed. I called around and I was referred by several people as well as clinics to go here. I made an appointment, they kept in constant contact with me. She apparently she had Hydrometra as well., I did not know this, they saved her life as well as this is a serious condition. Her surgery for her spay was successful! The staff is so helpful, friendly and kind. Communication was amazing and it was super affordable. They even trimmed her nails!! I dropped my pitbull/ chihuahua mix off at 7am. Called around 4 to see if he was ready to be picked up since I have not heard anything. They told me they haven't even gotten to him yet. I informed them from the beginning he has SUPER SUPER SEVERE Separation anxiety. So if possible get him done in the beginning and let me know as soon as I could pick him up. I went to go take my dog to get neutered. And once they handed him to me he had poop all over him. I would have thought since he had just gotten surgery, they would have at least cleaned him up . Once I arrived at my house, it was close to his incision. Which is scary because it could have caused an infection. And I'm sure they say and smelt the poop all over him. read more

DONT. Even think about it. It saddens me that I have to play phone tag with these people about almost nearly killing my dog after being spayed. I had my dogs spayed here before so it isn't my first time at this location. I TRUSTED THEM, to perform a surgery on my second dog. My dog was more lethargic than usual, we got home and we kenneled her right away. About 2 hours later, I let her out to use the restroom, eat and have some water. She sat by my feet and as soon as she got up I noticed that she was bleeding through her stitches and they weren't even ripped open or anything. Next thing I see was bruising that appeared externally the size of a quarter. I understand bruising can happen DAYS after a surgery, not within a FEW HOURS. So my assumption was that it could be internal bleeding !!(Mind you I have an extensive background in medical care & currently a medical student) I did not want to take any chances so I took her to the emergency veterinarian they provided due to the fact that altered tails was closed by the time she had these complications. By the time she was called back, she was profusely bleeding more than when I first noticed it. The vet came out, did some tests and said it was unsual to see that much blood come out of the subcutaneous space. I had no choice but to hospitalize her overnight because I did not want to risk having her go under to find the cause of the bleeding if it is internal. I read what I signed off for altered tails, and they DID not perform the best of care for my dog. I called in the next day politely if there was someway they could Reimburse the emergency expense. I wasn't asking for a full refund, but at least some kind of assistance. Their delivered conclusion was that they wouldn't because they reviewed labs from 1st Pet Veterinary Center and based it on the fact that my dog couldn't clot properly so it was not on their end of the problem. Let me just say, the decision to deny because she couldn't clot is ABSURD because she could not clot properly DUE TO THE FACT that she became anemic from all the blood she lost from the SURGERY Altered tails performed!? The nice lady on the phone even verified that they do a blot check to make sure there is no excessive/abnormal bleeding before the sutures are closed. !? So Explain that?? If you did the check that she was okay and good to go. I don't think so. I asked the lady to have the primary doctor call me so it's not delivered the wrong way and I still have not received a call. I like to thank 1st pet vet for administering her IV fluids to compensate for the amount of blood she lost during her surgery. Because of replenishment, her clotting levels were back to normal. And thank you for supporting and encouraging me to relay my concerns to altered tails about the careless procedure they performed. I now know I would pay a Vet instead of a clinic to care for my animals. read more

Waited 4 months for the appointment date (which was earliest availability), less than a week (3days) before the scheduled date they called and said they had no vets that day and also they couldn't take a dog his size (only 50lbs??). Nowhere did it state that they wouldn't take medium sized dogs. Also, why have appointments available if you don't have vets?! Told me they could refund the deposit or put us on a waiting list for another 3 months and they couldn't even guarantee that. Wouldn't recommend if you actually want them to do the service you scheduled months earlier and paid for. read more

I took in 3 cats from my work, to be fixed. Drom off was at 730am and even though there were lots of people there dropping off cats. Everything was very fast. They have the forms and clip boards there ready so you can fill it out so you are ready when they open, they started check in about 715 and they went over the paper work and made sure they had the right contact info and that was it i got a call about 2pm that everything went great and they would be ready for pick up at 330. Pick up was just as easy. And i returned the cats to where they were trapped the next day. And they are doing great. The staff is very friendly and professional. And if i ever need to i would not hesitate to use them again. read more

Availability is an issue as the dates available are a minimum of 2 weeks away but the online scheduling makes it convenient. It took around 45mins to drop off my pet despite of reaching around 30mins early in the morning for a 7:30am appointment . I'm assuming the extra time is because of the personalized service at the curbside also there was a long queue of cars ahead of me. The spaying procedure was relatively quick and we were given a pick up time of 1:30pm. The pick up wasn't as bad as there were just 3 cars waiting ahead of me. We got another chance to ask all our doubts. We were given post care instructions along with medications. Overall pleased with the service and safety protocols followed by them. read more

Had our dog spayed here about a month ago? The booking process was simple. Day of we showed up at 7 AM was a little shocked about the process. All went well and she came home and was fine. When we hit the two-week mark her incision wasn't 100% so I called to ask some questions and left a voicemail and never heard back. Would be nice if we could at least have some communication. Overall would use them again but would ask if we could get a separate number to ensure we would get an answer. read more

we showed up about 30-40 early and got second in line, so personally it went by pretty fast. there's a gate you pull into and they come to you to collect your animal. the staff was amazing and assured me my kitty would be in good hands. I just got our dog back from Altered Tails. My sons assistant picked him up, since I have 2 littles ones and didn't know how he'd be in the car. He came home without a surgical collar (cone). Really!!! A male dog! I've had a few animals neutered /spayed and they came home with them. It even said on the online form that it was included. We found a female pit bull on Jan 1st and decided to keep her after no one claimed her. A local rescue referred me to Altered Tails where I was able to get everything she needed for $80. This included her neuter, vaccinations and microchip. The staff gave her lots of love before and after surgery. They even helped us out to the car and kissed our pup goodbye. I came and had my cat spayed. When at the checkout I was over charged. I pointed it out and thought it had been corrected but when I returned home I reviewed my receipt again and noticed I was still over charged. I then inspected my cats incision area and noticed instead of a line cut it was more like a ball of stitches. Nothing I have ever seen before. I have had many cats fixed and this was the worst stitch job I have ever seen. I called and left a voicemail to see if they would correct my bill mistake and discuss my cats surgery and why her incision looked the way it does and did not receive a call back. I will not recommend the Mesa location to anyone. read more

They'll tell you you need to be there at 7:30 sharp, then you'll wait in line for an hour for check in. I did this five times, with the sixth animal (all rescues) after making the appt in July and waiting 3 months to get it - i had a conflict to arrive at 7:30 as I needed to drop my daughter at school and then head over - thinking no big deal to get in the long line 20 minutes late (my husband has chemo radiation appointments so couldn't help drive). After a 45 minute drive I arrived at 7:52, wait in line until 8:25 when someone approaches your car and says i had to arrive by 8 and they would no longer keep the appt WTF?!?!?!?! I did!! So much for doing my part to help control the animal population. Maybe I should just let all these cats reproduce and die outside my door - they don't need to make this process so difficult. read more

I read the reviews for this place before going and it seemed like this place could go either way. I got there at 6:55 AM (check in time is 7:30 for everyone) and I was 10 cars back (you line up in your vehicles behind the building). A lady came to my car and got my contact info. She came back later and had me sign a waiver saying my dog is a high risk for being a brachycephalic breed (he is a french bulldog). I was a mess after signing it because he is my literal soul and don't want anything to happen to him. They took him around 8ish and i left and right when i get home i get a call saying he got declined service because of being a brachycephalic breed and his nose holes need surgery. Mind you, my french bulldog breathes better than any french bulldog I've met which is a lot. I was recommended this place but didn't quite trust them because of previous reviews here. I went back to pick him up immediately and they did not refund me the $20 deposit. No where does it say that if denied service you won't get it back. Whatever take my $20 and use it towards something else for the animals. Altered tails, you really need to update your website to "can not work on brachycephalic breeds" or "if a brachycephalic breed, might be denied service bc of a anesthesia risk". I waited so long in that line and put stress on my dog to basically lose my own money and not have my dog fixed. If you have any kind of brachycephalic breed, do NOT bring them here, it will be a huge waste of your time. On a good note, the employees were very kind. Nothing bad to say about the employees but the company in general sucks. read more

Got my puppy spayed with altered tails after a recommendation from a coworker. Although you have to wait (just like any doctors office), they were very kind, informative, and attentive. So much cheaper than the $1500 quote I received from her regular vet. They had a special going for dogs under the age of 6 months. For being a broke college student, it fit in my budget and was worth the drive. Will definitely recommend this place to all my friends and family looking to spay/neuter their dogs/cats. read more

I wanted to save money getting my dog fixed because I husband recently died and money is tight. Instead of $600 it was only $154. While she was appeared to be fine, she ended up being dehydrated and constipated and had to take her in to my regular vet who gave her fluids and ended up spending another $154. A few days later she developed a cough and it was so bad I had to take her to the emergency vet. 4 hours and $500 later they have us meds said it was kennel cough and we went home. Now yesterday one of my other dogs has now started coughing very badly and I'm hoping to get her into the vet this morning. I truly wish I hadn't gone to Altered Tails- it has so far cost me $800 and my dogs have been through so much because I wanted to save money. Please think twice about coming here - your pets deserve better. read more

I rarely write reviews and have had good luck here in the past. Today I had a different experience, I dropped my cat off at 7:30am today to get neutered,chipped and shots. Received a call while while in a meeting and they left me a voicemail stating to give them a call back because they had some questions about my cat. I called, dozens of times with no return calls and no answer. So I decided to go in, I get there and they tell me he vomited and was agitated so they had to reschedule. At this point I'm already irritated since I had to leave work since they couldn't return a call. So I tried calling while in there lobby to see if maybe I was calling the wrong office or extension #. NOPE, sure wasn't. The phone rang and the girl at the front desk that was sitting there not helping anyone, just counting meds. (Slow as molasses) she leans in looks at the caller ID and then continues counting as slow as she can to look busy and ignore the phone. She spent the entire 30min I was there to pick up my cat separating maybe 60 pills into 6 different bottles. I could have done that in about 2 minutes. If you can't answer the phones maybe this isn't the job for you. Might I suggest you try working at a smoke shop where you can just sit on your butt all day and do nothing getting payed minimum wage. I do want to thank the girl that helped me get my cat, she was very friendly and apologized for the mess. I could tell she was irritated with her co-worker that was counting pills as well. Wish this review was going in the other direction but unfortunately it's not, all I got out of my experience was a pissed off cat. read more

I cannot begin to express my anger towards this clinic. We had an appointment this morning at 730am for our pug to be spayed. Got there early because the line was supposed to be crazy (they take all of their intake animals at the same time). we were the second people in line to drop her off, they took her back and told us they would call us if she was done early and if we didn't get a call we were supposed to come back at 4. (They threatened that if we weren't there before 5 that they had the right to drop her off at a shelter). We showed up right at 4, waited for about 45 minutes until someone finally brought her out. When they brought my shaking dog out, the tech said that because she was 6lbs over their limit for pugs (even though this was not specified anywhere) they were not able to do the surgery and that they thought she had gone home already. THEY LEFT HER IN A CAGE FOR 9 1/2 HOURS. And no one called us! She said "we were so high capacity we didn't notice she was still here"....... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! This is what you do to the animals we trust you with? Forget about them? Did she get water? Did she get to go pee?? For nine hours?? I assume not or else they would have noticed that she was still there..... we are absolutely disgusted with this clinic and can't believe that they would treat someone's dog like this. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

This clinic does good work in terms of being willing to spay and neuter feral cats. I would really suggest a better managed front office though. Also, please stagger pick up times so that you don't have a situation where a large number of people all show up at once and have to wait around in a small, noisy, smelly waiting room. read more

Do not waste your time with this mobile spay and neuter clinic. Twice I have attempted to get my cat neutered by tracking down this castration caravan, and let me just put it this way, my cat is still lookin' for some lovin'. You have to drag yourself out of bed between 5:00-5:30am to sit in a Petco parking lot waiting with a large group of strangers who are all willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead of you in line. Yes, this is a very cost-effective way to get rid of your pets business, but I recommend just spending the extra $15 dollars and going to a clinic where you can make an appointment and not have to deal with the stress and aggravation of Altered Tails. read more
