Unfortunately I had to give a one star to be able to post a review. Ill start off with I would be a new client. My first call to the office to make an appointment I was not impressed. they answered the phone with, Hello. No announcement of the business I was calling, nor who I was speaking to. I also explained I would be a new client, I'm new to the area and looking for a new vet. I arrive to my appointment, not super friendly, the clinic is dingy and dark. I was shown to exam room, I'm not sure who gave me a sheet to fill out she never greeted me or my dog and didn't say her name. then she left and said He meaning the doctor would be in shortly. as I looked around the room I wasn't impressed by the place. They took no pride in the clinic. instead of nice neat posters hanging on the wall they had sheets of printed paper scotched taped to the wall...Really? Take pride in your clinic. Then I met the Vet. No real greeting of me or my dog, He didn't even acknowledge my dog Harper. He asked why I was here. I explained I just moved to the area and was looking for a new Vet. My previous vet Harper on a low dose of prozac for her severe social anxiety. I handed him the prescription bottle and said I His demeanor instantly changed looked at the prescription bottle that I gave him and said Prozac I dont even know this is for her, my reply was, well her name is on the bottle. I was not yet able to get my records forward to this clinic, I gave him all the contact information of my previous ve.t He then proceeded to ask me who put my dog on these which I explained my dog trainer suggested Harper try Prozac to calm her down ( she is a rescue and has had some bad experiences as a puppy living on the streets ). I worked with my old vet on this and Harper was prescribed a low dose of Prozac which has helped a great deal. He proceeded to bash trainers and said, I have never hear of Prozac for dogs. I almost left, why I stayed I'm not sure. So then he proceeded to take Harpers temp and listen to her heart., then asked otherwise she is fine, I said yes. She is healthy and she gets a good quality diet. I said I think she is a good weight, His reply...Well if she was any heavier she would look stupid, again I should have just left. We were then interrupted by a staff member that another client was waiting. So he proceeded to leave and said we will get InTouch of your previous vet and call you on Monday. Wow, crappy bedside manor and lack luster professionalism of staff. I didn't want to pay for the consolation, but felt as a medical professional that I am I should. Point is Medicine being human or veterinarian is dynamic not static, He needs to keep up on his continual education. Prozac is widely used and it works for a lot of cases. His staff also needs polishing on being professional and friendly I would not recommend this place at all not even for a nail trim. And.. I never got that "Call Back".. how this place ever got 4.5 stars boggles my mind read more

NO COMPASSION AT ALL FOR A WORRIED PET OWNEER. we came in at 5:45pm. i know it was 15 minutes before closing but we had an emergency. my dog has NEVER reversed sneezed and we saw her eat something and she started wheezing. since she had NEVER done that and she looked like she couldn't breathe at all and we were really worried. it seemed like she was choking bc we saw her try to eat something. the ENTIRE staff was so rude and it was obvious we were in a panic. they didn't even want to see us to just double check that she was okay and the front staff had an attitude. the doctor looked at the dog on the ground and said it was a reverse sneeze and walked away with an attitude. no one seemed to care and just rolled their eyes. sorry i wanted to make sure my dog was okay? they all could have been nicer and showed a little compassion for an animal whether or not it was serious or not. rudest staff i have ever met and i don't usually complain. plus the doors were locked at 5:45pm when they close at 6 read more

Dr. Recupero and all of his staff were so kind and compassionate when I had to bring in my dog for euthanasia. It was an emergency and they were so kind to open up a spot that very same day. If you looking for a veterinarian/staff that is compassionate, isn't trying to "upsell" with tests, medications, etc. and is super reasonably priced compared to all of the other veterinarians, this is the place! We have been going to Comet Vet for several years. You cannot find a cheaper vet in the area, that is why we were sticking it out as long as possible, but enough is enough. In August our 13 year old girl starting having issues with bladder control. Dr. Recupero suspected she had a bladder tumor, and we were watching it. Last week she lost all bladder control and we took her in. I told my mother before walking into the office don't ask questions, he is very impatient and rude so it's better we just stay quiet and let him tell us what he thinks (my family knows the drill - less is more in his office). He came into the room, stood looking at her file for an awkwardly long time, never acknowledging us. He abruptly announced what are you expecting me to do here - What do you suggest I do? My emotions were crazy because I had an extremely sick senior dog with me. I told him for the money I pay you, you should be giving us suggestions and let him know that his behavior was not acceptable that he is rude, condescending and should not be treating his customers like that. Dr. Recupero told us that he is known for being a prick and that at 62 he is trying to wrap up his practice so he doesn't have to deal with this crap. I will not give his practice another penny or help him "wrap it up" so he doesn't have to deal with his patients anymore. I had 2 other small incidents in the past 6 months there. They called to schedule an appointment for my other 14 old dog that passed away after I called to let them know he passed away. The next is I went to get meds and they gave our prescription to the customer before me. I had to wait 45 minutes for the customer to return. Why they couldn't have given me another bottle is beyond me. Again, I let a lot of stuff pass due to his affordability. If you are ok with being treated horrible, talked down to and walk out feeling like you need to apologize for coming in then Comet Vet is the place for you. Dr. Recupero is a socially awkward man that obviously needs to know that people do not have to accept his bullying and crabby disposition. We have found a mobile vet that will be helping us thru this end of life process for our baby girl. read more

This place is the best my dog has been extremely sick with liver problems and this bet has saved my dog he still has a way to go but I trust this vet with my dog's life he doesn't have the best people skills but that is fine with me because he genuinely cares about the animals he is very recently priced and his staff is excellent . I recently had my dog going to Los Angeles veterinarian and they are the worst place ever they do not care about your animal they will weigh over charge you and they do nothing for your pet the groomers there it's terrible they will abuse your dog I recommend never going to that place if you care about your dog . Literally the most bullshit experience I've ever had from a vet. My cat is the sweetest boy, and he's obviously scared to be at the vet because he's OUT OF HIS HOUSE and his bonded pair just passed away. The assistant was fine but the vet himself is so condescending and rude, and turned us away because my cat gave him the smallest nip because they were grabbing him aggressively by the scruff and tossed him around. He did not try to familiarize himself with my cat or say hi, not even a pet or a scratch on the cheek. What vet just jumps straight into forcing the cat to submit? If he had just scratched his cheek or familiarized himself my cat would not have bit him. He immediately went "nope, I'm not planning on going to the hospital today" and turned away both of my cats without even seeing the other. I came here because I wanted to do a wellness check and from the get go, I heard him tell his assistant in the other room "why do they want to retest them for? if they have leukemia not like there's much they can do". His mannerisms were so condescending and the fact that you're a vet and turning away people because you got the tiniest bit of aggression is insane. You are absolutely allowed to turn us away, but his body language and the way he spoke with his assistants and the front desk was so aggressive. It's like he doesn't care about how he's perceived by the public or animals themselves. Do me a favor and go to Animal House vet clinic, they will actually offer to medicate the cat and reschedule the next appointment or offer sedation. They are so kind. This guy literally just said he isn't willing to go to the hospital over the smallest scratch, and didn't offer any help or assistance or even check my other cat. He immediately went "nope, not doing this" and turned them both away when we were so kind the entire time. They didn't even take my second cat out and TRY with her, they assumed after my first cat that the second one would also be "aggressive". He was skinny and scared. I don't understand why these people work for that miserable old man and how he's been a vet for so long if he only takes easy cases. My cat was so TAME compared to others I've seen, and if he's aggressively being handled OF COURSE he's scared and will hiss. Don't bring your cat here. Amazing vet! We just went for the first time to take our one year old American cocker spaniel for a routine check up. The vet was lovely and was very patient with our doggo who tends to be very nervous around new people. The receptionist was incredibly kind and they called with a reminder for the appointment the next day. We adopted our Mastiff Bentley Saturday 12-26-15 the day after Christmas. I called to see when I could get him in for a check up and his vaccines... Heather got me in that Monday the very next business day. I was ecstatic! Since then we have been back several times to take care of a serious upset tummy, a hot spot, an ear infection and later a skin infection. Bless his heart if it's not one thing it's another lol. Every time these guys get me in asap and I am forever great full! We hate for him to be in pain or uncomfortable for any longer than necessary. Dr. Recupero and the staff are amazing! We have kind of a unique story with Dr. Recupero. At this point, we consider him a family friend! We have a small zoo of critters at our house, so we are basically on a first name basis at this office. I will always recommend Dr. Recupero to all of my friends and family in the east valley area. Not only is he VERY knowledgeable, but he is also so kind to the animals - my dogs love him (and that's saying something for some of them - we have 6). All of my cats have been spayed and neutered by him (so I'm not sure if they love him or not, suppose I shouldn't speak for them), but over the last 7 years of going to see him, I have never once second guessed his opinion or the prices of his services. 10/10 highly recommend Comet Vet! read more

I am new to the area and looking for a great vet that also doesn't over charge for services. I do work in the health industry and rather knowledgeable. I am also a certified therapy handler with my dog, and no dummy when it comes to greeting dogs and reading their body language properly. He's also quite behaved and easy to work with. I came across Comet Vet, read the great reviews, and wanted to give it a try. My dog requires routine injections that are quite costly. The prices here are among one of the most affordable in the valley after calling around over 30+ vets for pricing... So I give them that. My experience did not meet my expectations based on the reviews, however. The ladies at the front were friendly and personable, but Dr. Recupero is extremely socially awkward. He had his back turned writing notes the whole time (which I know he has to do, but bedside manner and connecting with your clients is also necessary). I don't remember him ever making eye contact with me the duration of the appt. When it was time to assess my dog he didn't bend down to his level to greet him nor get to know him like most vets in my experience. He just dove right in. My dog was terrified because this is a new vet with new people. They had my dog get on a small exam table/scale that goes up in the air and changes levels. My dog has never been on one of these before and wasn't given the chance to feel comfortable doing so. The tech had to keep him in place while the vet assessed him while the table was in the air (which I'm sure this is common). The vet tech also read off my dogs weight while she was leaning against it... My dogs medicine is weight based which caused a huge margin of error. As a medical professional this is a NO NO. Dr. Recupero assessed his joints. My dog has history of bad joints and getting injections. Instead of moving the legs in the natural directions they go, Dr. Recupero took his back left leg and moved it into his body all the way through the right side of his body to more easily reach it and assess his paws. I could tell this was very uncomfortable for my dog. Dr. Recupero also kept awkwardly commenting throughout the appt how big my dog is and amazed at his size.. He's 80 lbs which is not uncommon. Has he never worked with large dogs before?? I usually don't like to give had reviews because I like to help businesses. But if I don't provide my bad experiences how will the business know and improve? I am sure Dr. Recupero is a good doc based on the reviews. However, my experience with his bedside manner, awkwardness, lack of ability to connect with his patient (my dog) and client (me the dog parent), and not moving the joints in their natural direction potentially causing more future problems and pain, it makes me want take my business elsewhere. Dr. Recupero and his staff have worked with three generations of our family since 1998. Over the years he has treated my cat, my son and daughter's pets, and now most recently my granddaughters beloved cat, Gracie. Gracie was spayed at a local spay clinic on Sept 5. She seemed to have a normal recovery until her stitches opened. Grace was taken back to the spay clinic and told she needed $1,800 in surgery to open and clean the wound. My granddaughter was devastated. Grace is only a year old and very healthy until this happened. It seemed the options, for an 18 year old looking for a job, were overwhelming. The spay clinic suggested that Gracie may have to be euthanized without the surgery. Knowing the skill and expertise Dr. Recupero has always brought to caring for the health of our pets, I felt the best option was to at least get an opinion for Dr. R. Unfortunately, time was not on Gracie's side: she had an 8:30 appointment with a local animal emergency clinic after being seen the previous evening. In a desperate act of hope, we went to the Comet Veterinary Clinic at 8 a.m. Normally, we would never ask or expect to be seen immediately without an appointment. While speaking to the young woman at the desk, Dr. Recupero approached, asking what we needed. He said he had two surgeries scheduled and really did not have time to speak with us. If he did not have time to give an assessment, I would have to take my granddaughter and Gracie to the Emergency Clinic and most likely have her euthanized. This amazing, incredibly compassionate doctor made the time for Gracie and we would realize soon- literally saved her life. My granddaughter and I will never forget the difference Dr. Recupero made in our lives. His compassion gave this young cat a chance to return to health. He agreed to keep her, clean the wound, administer a more appropriate antibiotic and monitor. My granddaughter had been devastated watching her beloved pet about to lose her life. I know she will never forget the compassion and kindness of Dr. Recupero. I already knew how amazing he is, and hope his kindness is returned to him many times over! read more

One of my 10 week old Golden Doodle pups got a couple of Cholla needles in her paw. I was able to remove one but couldn't get the other one out. I called Comet Vet Hospital and Dr Recupero agreed to see us immediately. He removed the needle and didn't charge me anything! Dr Recupero and his staff are very kind, efficient, and really care about their patients! So happy we found this vet practice for our puppies! Amazing service. I called today because I needed to take my Husky that had an injury from a dog attack at the park. I called several places and was not successful in getting her in. Everyone was booked. Even her own vet would not make an attempt to take her in. When I called Comet they asked me what the issue was and then said they would speak to the vet and see if he could squeeze her in. They did and I was beyond grateful. Once there I was in and out in less than an hour and knew exactly what was wrong and treated my Husky and I with kindness and warmth. I would highly recommend this place. I went here 1 and a half years ago. They were expensive. I had the same thing done at Red Mountain Animal Hosp. and was half the price. Been charged for visit, blood and urine test. I only went to them because the dog was urinating blood and my regular vet place at Red Mountain would not see them for a week and this place took us in the same or next day. After being on antibiotics the dog got urine in the blood again. The entire staff is always timely, always friendly & helpful service, always good with animals and with the owners. Dr. Recupero has a great way of explaining what is going on with the animal in layman's terms and willing to repeat himself patiently when one is freaking out. We have tried several nearby vets and this vet and his office is by far the most caring with the animals. Wow, I was surprised that they were willing to take my cat Lucy as a walk in. I accidentally scheduled with our previous vet (I've been living in LA during the year and only come back home during the holidays), but my parents drove to Comet. I was in a compete mess thinking that Lucy wouldn't get seen for her little tumors, but they were willing to see her right away. Dr. Recupero is very straightforward and his assistants are always really great with our cats. I swear they have some magic with them. We can never get Lucy to behave so well and be compliant at home. Dr. Recupero performed the exam and told us our old cat was still in fine health. He seems pretty busy around the holidays, but was willing to schedule her in for a surgery to remove the little tumors anyway. About 6 years ago my dog got away from us and ended up with a cholla cactus in his arm. Many of us tried unsecessfully to get it out and our pup was shaking and in pain. I drove her to Comet Vet Hospital, checkbook in hand! Dr Recupero, calm as can be, has me take her back. He muzzled her and then poof! Removed the cacti! Easy as can be! Then, as we were leaving I stood at the checkout and Dr. said no charge! Since that day he has been my vet. Two more puppies later, he is still my vet! My regular (not anymore) vet wanted an outrageous amount of money for euthanizing a 6 pound Chihuahua and after spending 100's with them over the course of 6 months to treat a heart condition that could not be reversed - i was appalled. My parents take their dear doggie to Comet - so I called them up and they were so caring and accomodating to help us. Also, their prices are so darn reasonable it makes you realize you don't need to sign up for those $90 per month "health plans" to keep your pet healthy. I have been going to Comet Vet Hosp. in Mesa, ever since I moved back to the Valley years ago, as they were recommended to me. They are not close to my home so I drive across town, but they are worth the drive. Dr. Recupero honestly explains everything he does for my little doggie and sometimes twice and a third time (patiently) as I just don't get it (or want to get it) the first time - I am so nervous about whatever happens to be wrong with her at the time, at which point, he give me my options. I am sooo glad that I found Dr. Recupero and his staff, especially Heather who is always so helpful. They schedule his appointments so that I never have to wait. He has a wry sense of humor and loves loves his furry animal patients, as do his small group of helpers. Long ago he found out why my little angel had her problems and put her on the correct food for her. Now, after many expert teeth cleanings by Dr. Recupero, which come at half or even more than half, of the cost of veterinary dentists, she has a problem with her jaw. I don't know what I will do about this problem because she is 15 years old and the possibility of her jaw breaking with the next tooth cleaning is a reality. Whatever comes up in the near future, I have all the confidence in the world in Dr. Recupero and will follow his orders as to what to do next. read more

Dr. Recupero is a wonderful, compassionate vet who does NOT take advantage of his customers by doing unnecessary tests. Prior to going to Dr. Recupero, my Mom took her very sick little dachshund to Red Mountain Animal Hospital who didn't even do blood work prior to doing other perfunctory procedures that produced zero results; cost her $170 and she still did not know what was wrong. If she wanted blood work done, that would have been an extra $160 from RMAH. She ended up taking her sick baby home, who suffered for 2-3 more days before she discovered Dr. Recupero. That's shameful! WHY didn't Red Mountain Animal Hospital do blood work FIRST like Dr. Recupero did, and is ALL he did? In a matter of minutes, he advised my Mom of the devastating news that her little fur baby was in acute kidney failure. He took time to thoroughly explain everything that was happening & the cost was only $60. WOW, what a difference between a wonderful, compassionate vet & one who only wants to milk their customers in time of distress, or is simply incompetent. That too is shameful!
