We LOVE Eunice at Estelle's. We purchased my daughter's prom dress 2 weeks to the day before the date of her prom. Eunice fitted her and did the alterations herself to make sure they were done correctly. We would have Eunice do alterations any day and would go back to Estelle's just for her! Highly Recommend. Only thing we would do differently would be make sure we have shoes when dress shopping. Blisters were the only problem of the night. I managed to find a beautiful dress after spending two days in the store (a total of 6-7 hours). The first day , Maggie was extremely helpful and assured me that the changing room would be reserved and nothing would be removed. After spending a couple of hours looking through the huge store and periodically placing dresses in the reserved room , I went back ready to try on all of my dresses and they were all gone!! None of the girls took accountability but they did eventually apologize after they saw how frustrated I was. They also did help me find the Majority of dresses so I didn't pursue talking to a manger. I came back the second day to try on the dresses and looked further; thankfully I found the perfect dress but needed a few alternations because it was slightly too big. The tailor in the back , Lucy, was completely racist , unprofessional and represented the entire establishment poorly . I patiently waited for my turn and briefly told her what needed to be fixed. She abruptly cut me off to speak with another Hispanic client in Spanish . I waited a few minutes and asked where to change so that she could see what needed repairing. She responded so roughly and disrespectfully that I needed to Purchase the dress and buy shoes first (I never had any shoes ). I said ok and walked to the front to purchase my dress . I felt disrespected but tried to fight off the feeling . When I told the cashier / customer rep how differently I was treated because I was a black non- Hispanic , the rep was also very upset. The owner of Estelle should speak with the tailor because although she rents, she is still one of the faces and a representation of Estelle, to a certain extent. Racism should not be tolerated. As a professional with many connections , i will be telling everyone about my negative experience with the despicable tailor , Lucy. Again , Maggie and many of the other workers were nice and helpful despite the mishap of losing my dresses. But this alterations Hispanic lady, Lucy also left a horrible and lasting unforgettable experience. read more

I purchased a dress at Estelle's on Wednesday. I left it to be altered with the women at the Alterations by Lucy station in the bridal department. The alterations were done terribly and made the dress extremely uncomfortable. Unfortunately I picked up the dress on Saturday, the same day I needed to wear it & when I asked if anything could be done I was told "Yes- by next Tuesday." Terrible, went for my prom dress and got it back stained and told me she didn't do anything to it, but when I brought it in it was perfectly fine, yes it was a used dress but I wouldn't bring a dress in to get alterations if it had a stain on it! Wedding Dress Alterations cost me over $700 - because of a bustle. I uploaded two photos of the receipt. 1st receipt was when I asked to have the bustle done. It shows $325 and than under in my larger it shows $420. I went to pay $450 when I returned to try on the dress again, two weeks before the wedding and she tells me no the $420 is JUST THE BUSTLE. IN WHAT WORLD DOES THE BUSTLE COST MORE THAN ALL THE WORK? Adding the "French bustle", (28!!!!!!! Pins!!!!), cost more than pulling in the chest, adding a bow to the back, pulling in the lace cover up, removing lace from the bottom, hemming satin, cost $325 but creating a bustle (which broke about twenty minutes into the reception, and I ended up carrying my dress the entire night anyway), cost more?!?!?? It was cheaper to alter the dress where I bought it; should have done that instead... what a joke. read more

Recently, I had to get alterations on a gown that I had purchased at Macy's. I found Lucy through Estelle's and visited her shop and upon meeting her, she was very pleasant and professional. I was extremely dissatisfied with my alterations on a bridesmaid dress. When we cut the length it was touching the floor, when I went to pick it up it you could see about two inches of my feet which I told her I did not want to show. The dress straps were taken up and are physically painful and she said there was nothing she could do to losen them that it would make the front of the dress bag and look bad. I am going to have to get my hair done while wearing the dress because I can just barely get my head in it. The top neckline was also lopsided and she told me that it was the way I was placing it and kept readjusting it on me which made the top straps even tighter and hurt more. I got into my car and cried knowing I spent so much money on a dress that is going to be painful to wear and doesn't look the way I wanted it to. She walked away and let me check out knowing I was not happy and would be in pain. I had my wedding dress altered by Lucy at her Estelle's location. My dress had to be taken in a lot and she did a great job with that, but she did a terrible job with the bustle. It had to be redone four times over the course of my wedding night. For the amount of money we spent on alterations, it was honestly ridiculous. Not to mention, she was thirty minutes late to my second fitting and didn't even apologize or acknowledge that we'd been sitting there waiting for her for thirty minutes. Absolutely horrible experience. DO NOT TAKE YOUR DRESS HERE FOR ANY ALTERATIONS. They will tell you a price for the alterations then when they make the ticket/receipt they change it to a much higher amount. I was told several times that the price to hem my dress was $150. I spoke to Lucy who said the price for the hem was $150. Then after going to the Patchogue location I was told it was $250 for a hem. Word to wise they charge different prices in the Patchogue location compare to the Estelle's location in Farmingdale. Patchogue location doubles their price. read more

After purchasing my wedding dress from Kleinfeld's I wanted a seamstress closer to the location of my wedding (Riverhead). I am so glad I found Lucy on Yelp because and she was absolutely wonderful. I felt comfortable working with her since the moment I met her and felt I could trust that she would make my dress look perfect. I had 3 fittings with her since I was losing weight and every one she would spend as much time as I needed to make sure I felt great in the dress. She also came up with a plan B in the event I didn't lose the weight ~ she also had to create a bustle for the very long multi-layered train as well. The end result was gorgeous! Amazing!!!! I ordered a bridesmaid dress that was TWO sizes up from my normal size and it did not fit. When I called the bridal shop and complained, they told me I needed to have ordered it FOUR sizes up. With it only being 1 month away from the wedding, I did not have time to return the dress and order a new one. So I brought it to Lucy and within only a few weeks, she was able to change the back of the dress from a zipper to a tie up and it is even more beautiful now than it was before! It fits perfectly! I gave this one star but only because 0 stars isn't an option. I made an appointment to get my bridesmaid dress altered. I received an e-mail back confirming my appointment with a google calendar invite. There was a message from Lucy indicating she had a doctor appointment and might be late, but will be there shortly - understandable, we all have doctors appointments that run late. When I got there, she wasn't there yet. As I waited, I realized there were about 4 people waiting for her as well (some before me, some after). I waited 20 minutes in the cold when one of the seamstresses opened the door and handed me his phone. Rich - who I can only assume is Lucy's husband - was on the phone. He specifically asked for me, since I was the only one with an appointment, apologized and told me to come inside and have a seat while I waited for Lucy. Once the doors were open, everyone who was waiting came inside. Before Lucy arrived, but after everyone who was waiting outside came inside, a woman came into the store. Once Lucy arrived, a bit frantic, she asked who was here first (a bride) and took her. At this point, it was about 25 minutes after my scheduled appointment. As the bride was putting on her dress, she came over and asked if anyone was picking up. Two girls were picking up so she she proceeded to help them. While waiting for them to approach the register, she asked the woman who came in last what she was here for - pant hemming. She told her to go put the pants on. She didn't even bother asking me what I was there for. I decided to speak up and let her know that I had an appointment. She then told me to put the dress on. I waited another 10 minutes with the dress on while she rang up, and chatted with, the girls picking up a dress. She then took the girl with the pants - I get it, pants are quick, but its extremely poor business practice to take her over THE GIRL WITH THE APPOINTMENT. It was at that point that I decided to leave. Clearly Alterations by Lucy did not deserve, want, or need my business. I will never go there again and will advise anyone I know against going there as well. Unless you don't believe in appointments or like waiting an hour to get something altered, I wouldn't recommend going to Alterations by Lucy. There are plenty other seamstresses in the area that care about your business and they are probably just as good. read more

I researched online to find the right place to bring our daughter's wedding gown for cleaning and preservation. I wanted something more personal so I chose this business because I thought that a local business would provide me with a much better experience than some of the online options, even though the quoted price of $250 was more than some online options. When I entered the shop I could see it was a well established, very busy business in the town of Patchogue. I was happy at first to see that the ticket was written up at the same price quoted to me via email. But then I saw them write down $25. for tax which is 10%, more than the NYS tax should be. I dismissed it thinking "oh well". They took my credit card and when they came back out the total charge was $285. A $10 surcharge had been added to my bill and charged to my card without anyone ever having mentioned to me that there would be a surcharge. That's when it started to bother me that they were charging me more on the tax than they should have because I felt like they were just trying to get more money out of me. I mentioned that the tax was not right and they corrected it by handing me $4 in cash. I accepted the surcharge that I had not been told about, signed the credit card receipt and left. This happened in July of 2019 but it bothers me to be treated this way so I am writing this review now to warn people. This is not the right way to treat customers. Whether or not it was an honest mistake (I don't think so), they made me feel like I was being used to get a few dollars more out of me. No one wants to be surprised by an added surcharge they were not told about in advance and were not even told why it was being added to the bill. read more

I brought in my bridesmaid dress to be altered last minute ( two weeks). The dress was originally meant for another bridesmaid and was sized accordingly. The entire thing had to be altered. Such a horrible experience. One of my bridesmaids had dropped off their dress at the end of August with a pick up scheduled for the end of September. After everything being finalized and a pick up date set, my bridesmaid arrived there to find that her dress has not been touched for our October wedding. Not once was she notified her dress was not finished, let alone untouched. The excuse as to why the dress was not touched was "a simple slip of the pen" "an honest error", and they wrote the wrong finish by date. We expressed how did this happen when the slip clearly had the date of the wedding printed on it and they responded "we don't pay attention to that". The appointment for pick up that THEY scheduled and wedding date were both ignored. They tried telling us the dress wouldn't be ready till the end of October which is a significant time after the wedding. After going back and forth we finally were able to pick up the dress in the beginning of October. This was an added stress for absolutely no reason. This shop has poor scheduling and management. I will NEVER refer this shop to anyone. In response to your reply:: I'm actually appalled by your return comment. One other bridesmaid had gone to you and she LUCKILY had a good experience, don't make it seem like several had gone to you because that is a lie. 2, my fiancé had gone down there personally the next day to discuss this matter and you wouldn't even speak to him! The gentleman at the desk was obnoxiously rude and didn't see an issue with your "simple mistake". There never was an offer to finish and pick up the dress in one day. She was told 4 days before the wedding which is why my Fiancé went down there and the gentlemen said fine October 4th. Also as far as pick up, that's so false in its own. I personally was there at pick up. Not ONCE did you apologize at pick up, nor did we speak to you. We gave you the information to Pull the dress out and then ignored you due to you not even apologizing on arrival. I'm glad your trying to apologize online to try and make yourself sound good but I still stand behind my 1 star review, more so now than ever after reading your response. Bought in a pair of CELINE designer pants to be altered. The tailoring was done so poorly. She took in the waist and removed the designer label. Underneath the fabric was not sewn back properly. Hem on pants was not cut but folded and sewn. Work was amateur at best. I went back and she was unphased but tried to fix her mess but still the pants were not right. A week before my wedding, I was in panic, trying to find someone who could fix what she had done. Finally, I found Lucy and asked her if she could help me. As soon as I met her, I knew she would be able to fix everything in a timely manner. Lucy had a way of comforting me during a time of stress and frustration. I had purchased my wedding gown from David's Bridal, and wanted the back closure changed so that it didn't have a ribbon closing it, but possibly a simple hook and eye. Lucy made the change, but when I put the gown on, it was extremely tight and uncomfortable. Lucy told me that it looked fine, and would not offer up any other alternatives to the hook and eye so that I felt more comfortable in the fit. I had come up with some ideas myself, with no experience in tailoring, but Lucy told me it was either the hook and eye or the ribbon. I was very unhappy with wearing such a tight-fitting dress, and I made another appointment to figure out something else. I purchased a strand of rhinestones that I wanted sewn to the gown on one side that would connect to other side to close the two sides of material. Lucy said that she would add another eye to the gown so that this could work, but when I got home with the gown (days before my wedding), the placement of it made it impossible to close the dress the way it was. Fortunately, my mother-in-law was able to help me, and it worked out, but I was more than dissatisfied with how unwilling Lucy was to come up with alternative solutions for what I wanted. Very disappointed, shoddy work. I needed women's dress pants altered (shortened and taken in). I was quoted a price of $20-25. I was charged $35 and while the length is adequate the pants are still huge. She took in the legs but nothing in the upper thigh or hip area.
