I wish I had taken a before picture. This small shop is located right between the Kangaroo gas station and mini mart on 16th street. If you are heading west, it is right before Main Street and if you are heading east, it is right after Main Street. The shop is run by Ms. DeLoris - or Ms. D - who has been a seamstress for 20+ years. As the only one running the shop, I recommend coming in with some degree of patience if there is a line. She will take the time to help multiple clients at once, but with her recent hip surgery, it might take some time, BUT it is WELL worth the wait. Purely on a whim -and honestly out of desperation- I went in on a Tuesday with three suit jackets that needed to be tailored before a major business conference the following Wednesday. She sent me to the back of the store where there are 2 (possibly 3) dressing rooms and mirror. She fitted the jackets to me as we talked clothing in general and she told me she would have them ready by the Tuesday. Now, I can't lie. I was a little worried. Ms. D is a sweetheart, but as the sole seamstress with a high demand based on her shop, I wasn't sure if she would meet the deadline in time. HOWEVER, the following Tuesday came around and I called the number on the business card provided to check on the three jackets. Ms. D told me that they would be ready by 8:00 pm, and if earlier, she'd give me a call. At 7:00pm, I got the call and came in to pick them up. My jackets were PERFECT. I honestly almost cried considering the horror stories out there about bad alterations. I cannot say enough about how nice of a job she did and how the jacket fit in comparison to before. It was the confidence boost needed to nail an interview with a company at the conference. A $90 well spent ($30 per suit jacket)! The only caveat to this shop is that it is only open for walk in drop-offs/consultations from I believe 4:00pm - 6:30pm. HOWEVER, if needed, a simple phone call is enough to let her know if you need to come earlier or later. She worked with me after hours as a first time client and I am sure, with kindness and patience, she would do the same for anyone else. read more

I cannot rave about Deloris enough. She is a sweetheart, prompt, and skilled. Deloris does a great job - she came recommended by a very fastidious friend of mine. The storefront is unassuming in a slightly worn-down section of NE 16th Avenue but don't be put off. Deloris has a small operation and is always busy but gives great personal attention and advice. She takes great pride in her work. She fixed some awful alterations I had done elsewhere and she gave me lots of options to resize a few things I'd bought online. The results are great! Everything is stitched well and lies flat, the quality is excellent. The solutions she offered worked very well. I will go back again and again now that I've discovered her. It's hard to find a good, attentive seamstress and my friend swears by her consistency and service. I hate to write a bad review but I feel like I have to since my service was so bad. Deloris needed 2 weeks to hem my pants, which I was fine with. Then the day it was planned for pickup, I went to pick them up and she said she was just finishing up and to come back in half an hour. So, although it was an inconvenience to go there, leave, and come back.. I came back in an hour and a half to find that she had not even started to hem my pants.... AFTER HAVING OVER 2 WEEKS. I understand she is busy, but don't take more business if you can't get the job done. And on top of all that, she forgot how much she was supposed to hem so they ended up being done poorly and still longer than I wanted them to be. Also, when I sat in her store for an hour and a half waiting for her to hem my pants, she wanted ME to apologize to another customer for her being behind on my pants and needing to finish them urgently. I didn't receive an apology once for the inconvenience but only rude remarks. read more

DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS. Heaps of old clothing tossed on every surface with tickets dated back to 2017 are strewn everywhere. Left 3 items for simple hemming and waist adjustment for pickup in 10 days. Went to pick up on 11th day and old woman there said her son was hospitalized the day before and items were not ready. No problem. Agreed to come back 2 days later. Still not ready. Agreed to come back next day at noon. At noon we call and she says she needs 2 more hours. Come back at 2. She's not there. Says she is 20 minutes away. Went to run an errand and came back 40 minutes later. Still not there. When she finally arrives, she sits down at the sewing machine to actually START THE ALTERATIONS! When we ask how long it will take, she says 30 minutes because the alterations are simple. THREE HOURS LATER we walked out with our items completed. One skirt had a huge stain on the front that was NOT there when we dropped it off. She admitted that she had slept until noon and that she was very tired. We will never go back to Deloris. Friend picked them solely on proximity to her apartment. I will always go to Lili's alterations in Thornebrook. Never have missed with them on quality of work and professionalism. read more

Deloris is great! I went to her to have two pairs of pants taken in at the waist and she did a great job. When I stopped in around the end of the day, I was served promptly and with great kindness. Even though her small workspace was filled with pending items to be mended or altered, Deloris had my order done much sooner than I anticipated. When I returned to pick them up, they were perfect! I've had a jacket taken in by Deloris and my boyfriend had some pants hemmed here. She is definitely the best option in Gainesville. Too many times my bf has had people argue with him about the length pants should be but Deloris seems to know what's fashionable and what her customers want. I needed my daughter's flower girl dress hemmed for an upcoming wedding. I brought it into Deloris and asked if she could hem the dress. She said that she was unable to do the hem. I was slightly panicked, as I just *assumed* this could be done and had not even thought about this awful situation occurring. I asked her if the 1 week lead time was the problem and she responded, "No. You won't find anyone in town who can do that dress." This particular dress had a Chiffon overlay with pleats. I went straight to my car and while still in the parking lot, I called a friend, who is familiar with sewing, and sent her a picture of the dress. My friend said that it looked like a simple "rolled hem" that could be done on a "surger" and that any alteration shop should have a surger. My friend recommended that I go to Lili's (By fresh market). I went straight there and they measured the dress on my daughter and never blinked an eye at my request. I am not sure why Deloris gave me the misinformation, but It was rather disconcerting for me and , apparently incorrect as well. Deloris is probably great with very simple hems and buttons, but I think that I will take my business elsewhere. read more

We took my fiance's wedding dress to have it altered in February. She said it would be done at the end of March. We have been calling her regularly since then to hear one excuse after another why it wasn't done. In the first week of May she said it was almost complete, but we were unable to pick it up for various reasons until the last week of May. The day we were supposed to go get the dress, she said she couldn't because she was in the hospital and her shop was closed.... I thought the timing was a little too funny with all of the other excuses we have heard. We went to her shop and found her working away.....on someone else's pants. We demanded the dress only to find that it had been hacked to pieces(I saw the pieces and I could have done a better job cutting them with a dull butter knife). She hurriedly tried to pin it together promising to have it done Friday of the same week. He have not heard back from her since and that was Wednesday of last week. Don't use her services unless you can afford for her to be extremely late (we were supprised to find her former co-workers at another alteration shop strongly confermed this). Don't go here EVER! read more
