I have been coming to see Susan for years for various needs, including prom dresses. She absolutely did not disappoint when it came to my wedding gown. My dress had many layers, with the top being tulle and lace. Needless to say, the material was very delicate and I can't imagine doing the work she did. I had Susan take up this dress, add in more lace detail to the back of it, take up the straps, and add on lace to the straps as well. She worked hard, ensuring that my vision was met, meeting with her multiple times over a month or two. It came out truly perfect! She even included a sewing kit and supplies incase of an emergency day of. Not to mention, she is extremely modest with her pricing. With all that I had done, I was only charged $175. I made the mistake of getting my wedding gown altered at this business. Please understand that owner runs this business out of her kitchen. Her husband and dogs would be in the kitchen during my alterations. This was extremely unprofessional and not to mention gross that dog hair would be on the bottom of my white dress. My dress was simple and according to the owner "easy alterations" would be made. She took an appropriate amount of fabric off the bottom of the dress. Unfortunately, she made multiple adjustments to the top of my dress and I still did not feel comfortable on the day of my wedding. There were (B) cups that she put into the dress that did not fit me appropriately. I voiced my concerns multiple times to the owner and she told me there was not much that she could do. She did not have bigger cup sizes (D). She also continued to tell me that we had plenty of time to make adjustments over the summer. The week of my wedding the dress was still not done, and I had to go back twice in one day, which was extremely inconvenient. On my wedding day I still was not comfortable in the dress and felt that it did not fit me appropriately on top. I was extremely self conscious and felt that I needed to adjust myself all night long. She charged me $125 for the services. Hindsight, I should have had it altered at a professional bridal salon. Even though it would have been more expensive, it would have been worth it to be comfortable on my wedding day. read more

Recently, I dropped my bridesmaid dress off with Susan Slater at Alter Ego for simple alterations. I had made an appointment 6 weeks before the wedding date. I needed a simple hem, padding taken out of the bra and the sleeves moved over slightly, taken in at the waist. Susan told me to call her when I was feeling that it was "getting close to the date that I needed it" to follow up. So, after the first appointment, I called her two weeks later to make an appointment to have the second fitting in which Susan told me that she had no time to work on my dress because she had two bridal gowns to work on for two weddings that are this coming weekend. I told her that I would call her back. I called her a week later and we made an appointment. She had taken the padding out of the bra but nothing else had been done. We are now a little over 2 weeks before the wedding. I asked her when I should come to pick up the dress and she said a week from today. I called her a week later to make an appointment to pick up the FINISHED dress and when I called her she said "did I mess up? I have been working on two bridal gowns for two weddings that are this coming weekend." Now, we are at the week of the wedding so, I told her that and she told me that it would be fine to come and pick up the dress on Thursday morning(3 days later) and she would have the dress done. Thursday morning, I go to pick up the dress and ring her door bell and she looked confused and stunned to see me. She told me that she didn't have the dress done and that I would have to come back. I told her that I needed the dress today because I was leaving for the wedding the next morning. She said that she would have the dress done in the afternoon. My husband had to pick it up because I work in the afternoon. Susan had the dress "ready" and charged my husband only $15.00. I now know why she charged so little. The dress was altered POORLY! The sleeves kept falling down when I asked that they be tight, the bust was too big STILL and she didn't bother to take the waist in at all like I asked. This woman should NOT be in business. I chose her due to her rave reviews on Yelp. HUGE disappointment. read more
