Worst experience I've ever had with a seamstress. I've had clothing tailored in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and New York City and this was the most bizarre customer service experience I've ever had and the worst alteration work ever! All I needed was a simple alteration to a high quality Brooks Brothers sport coat. Alter Creations owner, Martha, was indescribably rude and combative. It's hard to find the words to accurately describe the interaction with Martha. Martha was oddly standoffish and defensive right out of the gate... she wouldn't properly measure and mark the sport coat for alterations and when I asked her how she was going to make the necessary alterations once I took the sport coat off and left her shop she got angry, raised her voice and told me that I was welcomed to go elsewhere... where did this come from? To keep things flowing and because I needed the sport coat to fit and look good for my son's college graduation I actually apologized and felt like we left things on good standing. When I returned a few days later it's as if the sport coat was not even altered... when I pointed out that the coat didn't look any different than when I brought the coat in a few days earlier, Martha lost her mind again... she was rude, combative and emotionally unhinged. I knew this was going nowhere so I accepted my losses and left (I didn't wear the sports coat to my son's graduation and am looking for another seamstress in the Park City/SLC areas). Interestingly enough... I was so confused as to how this happened as I am quite the people person and am always willing to pay more for quality services. So I visited Yelp and saw Alter Creations reviews and it all became clear to me... it wasn't me! Look at the number of negative reviews and especially the comments about Martha's lack of talent and sewing skills and worse, her personality and how she interacts with the customers. I feel bad for Martha and think she should seek the support of a therapist. I didn't deserve the way that she mistreated me during my drop off and pickup visits to her shop... and the poor quality of her alterations. I brought in some tuxedo pants to be hemmed... everything turned out great. Realized after the fact that my tuxedo jacket did not have the buttons sewn onto the sleeves (my oversight since I didn't bring the jacket with me on the first visit and it was a new tuxedo)... she was able to help me out in a pinch and sewed the buttons that same day. I really appreciated that and, in my book, that easily rates a 5-star review! read more

She charged me $30 to hem a pair of pants and told me to pick them up between 1 and 2 on Friday. When I arrived at 1:30 she was closed. When she returned my phone call she said she had to leave early. I asked her to deliver the pants to me since I wasted a trip and she refused. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL I didn't realize picking up your car from service was a family EMERGENCY- since that is the reason you gave me on the phone as to why you needed to close early. It must be a very special car to be considered family! Also, you had my phone number - you could have called to let me know that you were closing for an EMERGENCY. read more

We did not have a good experience at Alter Creations and it sounds like we aren't alone. I rarely give 1-star reviews, but this experience was pretty bad. The good: -The work was fine and what we expected. The bad: -It was so, so overpriced, and I have had many things tailored at other establishments in my lifetime and feel like I have a general idea on pricing. -She said the dresses would be ready by Friday, but then on Friday called to say they wouldn't be done until Tuesday. Two of the dresses were my sister's who was moving Monday. So now I have to mail them to her. The woman knew my sister needed the dresses before she moved, and promised they would be ready, but they weren't. -The hours are so limited and she told me I had to pick up at 1 pm over a week away. Then, that morning before 8 am, she called to say I actually had to come right then because she wasn't going to be in the shop the rest of the week. My dress was for a wedding in a few days (which she knew) and we had to scramble to get there to pick it up before she closed. -When we got there, we said very nicely that we probably wouldn't be able to come back because the prices were extremely high and scrambling to get there that morning was stressful. She immediately became so combative and mocked my sister (who is 19 years old) saying she usually only deals with adults and was doing us a favor by taking the job. She was very nice. $300 alteration is very expensive for a bridesmaid dress that doesn't fit very well. There were definitely alterations that made it challenging and I'm not sure how perfect she could have altered it to be, but quite expensive. read more

I've had the good pleasure of having a variety of items Altered and Created at Alter Creations. Martha has been great to work with. Her sewing is wonderful, pricing is fair and timing is always good. Between my husband and I, I think we have brought over a dozen items to Martha to be altered. I have no complaints, only compliments. I look forward to picking up my latest batch of items soon. I came in with a deadline, and a blazer and shirt that was MANY sizes too large. Total reconstruction was needed, in a hurry. My uniform was ready within four days, for a funeral, and it looked great. Thanks so much. To the person who posted the hateful review, FYI... It was your bullying that led my decision to come here. She was supposed to find the material for the alteration. When she could not find the material I had requested, she would not release the garment back to me without a $50 fee. I was shocked. A most unpleasant person. If you have to drive further, it is worth it. read more

I had a dress hemmed- the agreed price was $40 and she made me sign the agreement and initial the form ensuring that the price was $40- however, when I picked up the dress she said she mischarged me and that the price was $60.00. I felt cheated & will never return due to her unprofessional. read more

It seems like there is a common theme in reviewing Alter Creations. Similar to the first review, Martha quoted me $250 to alter a wedding dress at first. I acknowledge the fact that this was a VERY last minute request on my part, and appreciate that she was able to accommodate me only a couple of days before my wedding. However, one hour after my family and I left her shop, she called to tell me that the job would cost $400. We agreed on the higher price, but I was expecting that if she was going to charge these types of prices, the work would reflect that. Unfortunately, it did not. She did a nice job on the hemline, but the area around the zipper where she took in the dress was not well done. My mom and aunt have experience with cutting, sewing, and tailoring, and they were EXTREMELY displeased with the quality of craftsmanship. We expressed our displeasure with the result, but she still charged us the $400 for sub-par quality. We will have to alter that piece of the dress again, only now it's after my wedding. I took a look at the website before I came in and saw there was a notice saying that the bad reviews were written by customers that Alter Creations has never worked with. That should have been a red flag, but I went ahead anyway. I can assure you that I had my wedding dress altered by Martha, and that the quality of her work did not reflect the price she charged us. As a customer, do yourself a favor and either hold them accountable for their work, or take your business elsewhere. read more

I am the most particular when it comes to my clothes, especially who works on my alterations. Alter Creations is the only place I will go. The owner Martha is so incredibly professional and kind to every person that walk into her shop. Her work is beautiful and it's very apparent that she takes her time on each individual piece. Business owner charges a $20 minimum per item plus the fee for the repair on top of the fee. When I told her that I had far too many articles of clothing and that the repairs were minor(sewing on a strap, a button for another article, five to ten stitches to repair a small tear, etc) she began to yell at me!? I told her she was being unreasonable and goodbye. 30 seconds later, the woman called and left me this message; "Do you know how ridiculous you are? Are you so poor that you are asking me to work for free? You are really stupid, I cant tell you how dumb you look, you are ridiculous." I cannot believe someone would call you back and leave a harassing message simply because you choose not to use their service because you think a minimum repair fee is unreasonable and is also uncustomary in this area. I later found out that she had done repairs to my boyfriends suit coat last summer and actually taken it is so far and cut the fabric in a way that she actually ruined it. I am glad I didn't end up using this unprofessional service. read more
