I had 2 fitted jackets altered here and had an excellent experience working with Victoria. One jacket was pretty simple and unlined ($30) and one was more complicated with a lining and trim on the outside ($45). I've done quite a bit of sewing, but what I needed was beyond my skill level. I went to a couple places trying to get my favorite Ski pants fixed. At one place the owner never showed up despite having posted a 10 AM opening time. I waited until 10:20, with no luck. The second place the guy looked at the rip in the pants and said he couldn't fix it. Then I went to Alice's tailoring and alterations and Alice said no problem. I brought in a lovely chenille sweater which had been cut with a scissors by my friend, who was trying to snip out the shoulder-hanging ribbons. She did that, but missed and also snipped the sweater. I called Alice on Monday afternoon, brought the sweater in, Alice said she wouldn't have any problem doing the reweaving repair, and I picked it up this afternoon, on Tuesday, about 24 hours later. The repair seems to be fine. I'll be wearing it in SF for the holiday, and if anything unravels or there are any problems, I'll post a follow-up. Alice seemed quite nice, although she has a very heavy Russian accent. I didn't have much difficulty understanding her since I had Russian grandparents, although others might not comprehend her as well as I. I saw no one else present in the store. read more

She's lucky I sent the wife for pickup, had it been me I wouldn't have paid the additional extortion price. I'd have grabbed my items, said F you and walked right out. I absolutely would not recommend this tailor to ANYONE wanting a wedding dress altered. My sister's wedding dress was ruined less than a month from her wedding with bunchy and irregular seam work and an ill fitting result. When she complained she stated she would fix it and did nothing but make it worse. She refused to give a refund on her shabby work even though my sister was left searching for a new wedding dress less than 20 days from her wedding. BEWARE. You would think that at crushing the dreams of a bride there would be some compassion but there was absolutely none! read more

Clothing was altered correctly - but $118 to shorten two skirts and take one in at the waist? Ridiculous!

I took two pairs of levis in to Alice's to be altered. They needed to be shortened and some of the bulk taken out (I needed to go from a size 14 to a size 13). They weren't designer jeans, but Levis side-elastic "Mom" pants. It took two weeks to complete the work and it was OK. I admit I don't get a lot of items altered, but $100 for this work seemed a bit excessive. I'll try someone else in the future. read more

RUN RUNRUN AWAY.........Chances are when a seamstresses doesn't use a tape or pins to mark the hem intended for an item (in my case a pair of dress pants) the hem is NOT GOING TO BE STRAIGHT! Let alone even!!' I guess I can wear one shoe with a heel & one without. REALLY? Come on. After the FAILED second attempt to "get it straight" and having argued with her and the daughter about it. I paid the ridicules $27.50 WHY? you ask ....not wanting to deal with the overbearing, control freak husband running the place. I picked up my pants ran, Straight to another tailor who fixed the problem, for half the price and didn't destroy my pants. RUN RUN RUN AWAY FROM ALICE ALTERATIONS. read more

SCAM!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!! Sister had to get a dress altered on the bottom, the bust, and the sleeves- only the bottom was done when we went to pick it up. Had to come back an hour later because she didn't do the sleeves. Came back, tried on the dress this time and she didn't do the bust and the sleeves were still not correct. Told the seamstress (owner) it was still not done and too big, she said "it wasn't her fault". She tried charging us the same amount $175, I asked if she would cut the price since it was still TOO BIG and NOT FINISHED. She refused and kept saying it wasn't her fault. She wouldn't allow us to pay anything less. The wedding is tomorrow and we have to figure out someone to make it actually fit the bridesmaid!!! Waste of time!!! First...and last time customer. I took some military uniforms in to have badges and rank sewn on. They told me over the phone that they had experience with such things. I ended up paying $43 for four badges and none of them were right. I even took other uniforms in with me and left them with her so she would have examples of what the finished product should look like. Her attention to detail is very much lacking. After being told the outrageous price (I would have expected to pay less than half that amount based on previous transactions) she was unwilling to fix them or accept anything less than the price on the ticket. The lady was really nice and easy to work with, her work was immaculate and done very quickly.

My husband fell and scraped the arm of his good suit. We took it to several tailors in the area, and they said that either it was not possible to fix or that fixing it would be prohibitively expensive. We took it to Alice, and she said, sure, it will be fixed in about a week, and explained what she would do to fix it. The work was done on time, and I can't tell which sleeve she fixed. DO NOT go here!! I brought in a pair of pants to be hemmed and a bridesmaid dress to have the sleeves shortened. The lady quoted me $20 for the pants to be hemmed (which was too high) and $30-$50 for the dress. She said she would have them done in a week. I went back in a week and she only had the pants done. She said she needed more time to hem the sleeves of the dress. The wedding was at the end of that week so I told her I needed it now. She told me to come back tomorrow. She had me pay for the pants which she charged me $27 for and not the $20 she quoted but I didn't say anything because I needed the bridesmaid dress. I went back to pick up the dress and it wasn't ready. She told me to come back in an hour. When I came back she gave me the dress and told me it would be $100!! I told her she quoted me $30-$50 max and I wouldn't pay more than that. I also told her she quoted me $20 for the pants but charged me $27. She argued with me but I told her I wouldn't pay more than $50 for the dress. I paid the $50 grabbed my dress and ran out. Run away and DO NOT use her!!!
