In the Fall of 2020, my husband and I decided to remodel our run down 1978 home. We were spending more time at home due to Covid, and we were ready to finally make our home into a peaceful sanctuary for our family. After living here for almost 20 years, our "To Do" list had grown rather long. We needed windows, siding, bathrooms (no longer set in the 70's), and more room in our 1500 sq ft dwelling. We excitedly met with an architect to see how we could extend our house and add more windows and natural light in the process. We had the plans and were ready to start construction. Then, the general contractor we had chosen ghosted us. Knowing that this was going to be a big job that would require a very large chunk of change, we knew we needed to make an informed decision. We already had trust issues after having chosen a contractor recommended by a friend who flaked out on us. So, it's a big deal to make a decision about who is going to redo your home into a place that you will love and enjoy, stay on time, on budget and use our money wisely. This was our first major home project and we planned to meet with several contractors to find out how the process would work and how they could stay within our budget. We looked on Yelp first and searched for someone in our general location, (we love to support our local businesses). The first listing was Alter Construction. The reviews mentioned "responsive"," great communication'', "trustworthy'', "best materials", "great craftsmanship," all the things that you'd want in a general contractor. I checked out their website and really liked what I saw, so I filled out the form and got an immediate response to set up a phone call the next day. After speaking to Eli for the first time, I got a warm and friendly vibe. We set up a meeting at our home to discuss the project and when Eli and Cynthia came over we talked about what we wanted to accomplish and let them know that this remodel would totally change our quality of life going forward. They showed us some photos of their previous jobs and their qualifications were obvious, all of the projects were amazing. The happy client testimonials spoke to Eli and Cynthia's character and genuine desire to help us reach the quality of life we had longed for for many, many years. Needless to say, we never met with any other contractors, our minds were made up during that first meeting to work with Eli and Cynthia at Alter Construction. We went back and forth via email about what we needed and at our next meeting, we went over the scope of work, timeline, total cost of the project and the payment scheduled. We gave them a check as a deposit, but Eli let us know that until the City's permits were in hand, no money would be deposited. Once the permitting process was complete, work went fast. We completely moved out and 5 months later, we were back in a BRAND NEW HOME! We did have a bit of a delay during the project waiting on the City inspectors, but the communication between us and Alter was constant. We felt very comfortable calling or texting and Eli was always available and he treated our home with special love and care as if it were his own. Eli is a perfectionist and is always the first to notice if any little thing is off and is quick to reply with, "I'll fix it!" or "I'm on it!" and he is! The end result is stunning, we have so much more space, our bathrooms are gorgeous, the exterior is perfect and EVERYTHING inside and out is new and improved! We really formed a nice friendship with Eli and Cynthia and miss not talking to them as regularly as before. Alter Construction has been wonderful! I had hole damages from snow storm and squirrels chipping it away around it (one very big including 3 sidings). Had holes closed/covered temporarily . Contacted 3 contractors (including ABC Home and Commercial services) , all contractors told me as sidings in my house not available anymore on the market, they could not keep esthetics of the house. They said would cover the holes in the back with new sidings and not take down the original sidings and re-placed them ("That is the way we do it now"). After 1 year of searching, I contacted Alter Construction. Eli, owner-PM, not only promised me to resolve these issues, but he would keep esthetics, so important to me. He found a material that resembled my original sidings. When his crew had already repaired properly the front, but the T groove was not aligned (because of the different material) asked his crew to tear down, and found a way to cut the new sidings in a way that would match the measurements of previous sidings. Called me outside and checked with me if I liked alignment, they nailed new sidings after my ok. If you look at the house, you do not see the new material at all, or any misalignment with the rest of the T grooves. The sidings of the front windows look aligned, symmetrical and pretty perfect. Same in the back, where they replaced all the first sidings row. They had already painted the house, and I noticed, for the first time and not included in the work order, a siding in the back that seemed old. Eli told me not to worry, his lead crew came next day and took it out, cut new material sidings, replaced it and painted again. No difficult discussions, just Eli saying " We want the client happy, we are here to make it happen!" Yes, I would suggest this company. read more

We decided to close in an open game room upstairs. We had several contractors come over to provide numbers and scope for the project. As someone who is in the design/build industry you expect a certain level of service and knowledge. All the contractors minum Alter spent a grand total of 20 minutes looking at the project. Alter spent an hour looking at the project and going over various options and plans. Alter took measurements, pictures, videos of the area to remodel. While also presenting pictures and videos of previous projects. We are a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Alter's proposal for the project was 10 pages compared to the 1 page proposals from other contractors. Alter laid out the entire project scope, what is covered, what is excluded and expectations. During the project, Alter was at our house multiple times a day checking on the progress. What they said would get done for the day was done that day. The craftmanship was impeccable, and clean. We are forever grateful for Alter treating our home like their home. With the great work they did, we decided to excel another project to roll right after the first remodel. We wanted the master closet redesigned and they made it happen. As picky and precise we are as customers, there was nothing we noticed that had to be redone. Lines were clean and straight. They made both project match our dreams and desires. I will never venture out to hire someone else to work on our home. Only Alter will be the contractor to work on our home and feel like family. read more

We had an amazing experience with Alter Construction having our bathroom shower remodeled. There was a little bit of a rocky start to the process when selecting the materials for the work, my wife and I had never been through a remodeling project before and were overwhelmed with the amount and specifics of materials that needed to be picked out. However, after getting some help and a bit of hand holding we were able to get all the materials selected and construction set a date to start construction. The construction process was a dream. We spoke to Eli everyday during the construction process, he would give updates and explain in detail how things were going. When changes were needed, Eli explained the reason for the change and layed out all of the options as well as gave his personal recommendations. There was also a week that my wife and I were out of town (my brother was staying at the house) Eli called and texted everyday with updates and pictures of the work. During the construction process, the crew that was here working throughout the day was very polite and courteous. We are so extremely happy with the finished shower, we love it so much. I cannot express enough about how happy we are about the work that was done, the crew, and about Eli. We initially contacted Alter Construction to get a bid on fireplace remodel. After meeting with Eli and explaining that our main concern was about fireplace leaking during heavy rain he presented us with two options: actual remodel (at a few thousand) vs re-caulking outside and repainting inside. We decided to proceed with a second option - his team found gaps in the roof/siding, re-caulked them and repainted outside and inside. They've done an excellent job - everything looks great, we already had few heavy rains and confirmed that they eliminated the leak and saved us some money. After that we contacted them for a slightly bigger project to replace siding on one side of our house (original siding from 1993 had some water damage). I also had concerns about other side of the house, but both Eli and his team pushed back and told me that it would be just a waste of money and they don't recommend it. Eli and Cynthia kept us informed about the project, explained extra scope that they uncovered after demolition and insisted on delivering high quality of their team's work. We are very happy with outcome of both projects and I would be happy to work with them again. read more

Eli with Alter Construction is an amazing GC to work with. My husband and I wanted to change out the the shower door and floor of our master bathroom. This was a small job and most GCs refused to do anything less than the entire bathroom. We spoke to someone regarding replacing the shower door and that person (Hero, with Shower Doors Today) referred us to Eli for the tile work. Eli was exceptional to work with. He spoke with us and told us step by step what to expect and what needed to be done, including any worse case scenarios that may arise. They began work within a few days. Luis, his main tile worker, was punctual and very respectful and worked efficiently and diligently. Despite not being able to use my bathroom for several days, this was an overall pleasant experience. I called them, and I spoke to Cynthia, we discussed about the project and it was so relieving. She gathered all the info, and scheduled the meeting with Eli the next day. Eli came and explained me in extreme detail about he bathroom remodel, and educated me about the building codes. He was super nice and easy to talk to! He always had amazing ideas how to get the best value for the money. Eli was coming everyday to the job site, to check the progress, and letting us know what was happening everyday and told us what will be the schedule for the next days. Started with a project to turn his and hers "walk-in" closets in master to a single walk-in. While we switched from one rep to someone else we were worried we wouldn't like them as much- my wife was comfortable with the woman we had been dealing with and we were jazzed to move forward. As it turns out Eli at Alter has been wonderful, he's been straightforward and honest and kept communicating through the process and each stage of the project work. We expanded scope to do new matching doors and new fans for the rooms of the house, and the estimates and contracts were detailed and he went over everything to make sure we had no unanswered questions. Primary bathroom ceiling leak required immediate attention. After four contractors failed to respond (job likely too small), a neighbor referred us to Alter Construction. They inspected the roof just before a major ice storm, identified the issue, and installed a temporary patch to prevent further damage. After the storm, their team completed the roof repair, provided photos, and left the worksite spotless. They also repaired and repainted the interior ceiling and wall, carefully matching the original color. The owner and crew arrived on time, explained each step, and obtained our approval before proceeding. They honored their quote without pushing unnecessary upgrades. Done a handful of jobs on the house through different contractors and this company is easily the best one. He will help you every single step of the way. Starting from walking you through the house, selecting materials at the store, suggesting opinions/input, constant updates throughout the whole process, and even finishing touches that are outside of your project. He fixed a patch on a carpet that was outside of his work. He did baseboard work that was outside of his area that happened to connect to the living room. His ETA for the project was spot on too. It's insane how much detail and work ethic Eli and his company has. My wife and I love him so much that we are legit planning another project with him in the future. 100% recommend. After a large water leak and plumbing repair, I needed all new flooring and baseboards, sheetrock repair and painting in several rooms and also had tile removed in kitchen, laundry room and bathroom and new vanity and floor tile in bathroom. we also had shiplap installed on one wall of two rooms. Both of my vehicles were stuck in that garage, and I was stressed. This is the second time we have used Alter Construction, and again they have surpassed our expectations! Our roof needed replacing after discovering years of hail damage. Alter Construction quickly met our insurance company's estimate and began work within a day of signing the contract. The crew arrived early and had the roof stripped and replaced by noon the same day, taking every scrap of debris with them.
