Kavaly kava drink from Alt Bar
    Austin R.

A very cozy, home-y and rad feeling space that I've enjoyed visiting twice. I haven't had any cocktails / drinks made by the bar tender yet, but both times I visited I got the Kavaly kava drink (pictured) from their can/bottle shop which is stocked full of N/A goodies. I've also had their 1911 non-alcoholic cider which basically just tastes like regular apple cider/juice, so would recommend the Kavaly / kava drinks here for something more "special." Great feeling place with a nice vibe, would recommend for a date night or afternoon/evening outing with friends / solo!

First time here and it was great! They hosted a trivia night and was so much fun. The drinks were awsome! Definitely recommend this place. Go check it out!

It feels like a hidden locals-only joint where you can grab a glass of your fave from a thoughtfully curated list of delicious options, and settle in with your better half, besties or a group of friends and just chill. We've been to Apogee a number of times before and 'after' covid, in colder months when we've been lucky to snag a window table, and in warmer times, like tonight, when we can sit outside and enjoy the flickering fireflies along with our sparkling rosè. Besides the pleasant atmosphere, Apogee has a beautifully appointed interior space, clean bathrooms, and a menu with cheese plates, cake, and more wines than you could taste in a summer. All of that plus super knowledgable 'bar tenders' (more like wine sommeliers) who can take your possibly clumsy description of what you think you want and offer up several perfect options, and you have the makings of a very pleasant evening. Book mark this place and plan to spend at least an hour enjoying an outside table!

As a special events venue, Apogee was flexible with outside food and also with decorations. There was no additional venue rental/site fee, just a minimum spend amount (which we were confident that we would exceed). The venue is cozy and intimate, but has high ceilings so it did not feel claustrophobic at all, even with 30+ guests at one point. I'm a wine snob myself, so I was a bit skeptical initially when I saw their wine list. Most of the wines they serve retail for $10-20. They do have some bottles that are more expensive (retail ~$30). However, after tasting some of their entry level wines (Ancient Peaks Zinfandel & Gouguenheim Malbec), my worries vanished. Everything I tasted was excellent and drank better than their actual price point. Steve was a great host. He was laid back, but still friendly and attentive to all of our guests. He made sure everybody's drink needs were satisfied. He was also flexible with letting us in the venue early to set up and also staying late to clean up. I also liked the fact that they allowed us to bring our own wine, for a $15 per bottle corkage fee, which is fair. Anyways, Apogee is a great venue for a small party. They are flexible and reasonable. I would definitely recommend them as a wine bar and for hosting a private event (especially on a Sunday).

We've been meaning to try out Carnegie Cellars for a long time and 3 of us finally went in…read moretonight. The experience was amazing! The menu is different than other places, it goes from small to large plates and you order what you want and if you want more- keep ordering. My daughter got a flight of white wines and I got one of their beers, which was an interesting hazy IPA called Baby Kittens. Our waiter Philip was very knowledgeable on the wine selection and helped with the food order. We started out with the Flour City bread, which was toasted and had a dip of whipped ricotta with butternut squash - excellent! Next, we had the salt and pepper squid - their version of a fried calamari appetizer - also excellent with a nice little spice that snuck up on you a little bit. We followed that with the farm salad, which had a great cranberry vinaigrette. Then we had mussels which were over a jasmine rice that had a great sauce with it. The last dinner item we had was the butternut squash ravioli - so tasty! The table next to us got the fries, which was a huge mound of french fries with Parmesan cheese and I think something else on it. It was a lot of food. The waiter suggested their desserts, which was a choice of a huge slice of carrot cake or a skillet baked chocolate chip cookie or brownie topped with vanilla ice cream. We got the latter and it was excellent. The atmosphere was very subdued and great for a date or just a fun night out. I highly recommend visiting Carnegie Cellars!

We ordered the mussels that came with crusty bread, a cheese plate, salad, bougie fries, 2 drinks each and the crème brûlée. Everything was seriously so delicious. Cute restaurant and I see how they could get super busy on any given night. For my first time here, I was impressed by the quality of food and the authentically nice service. It was easy to make reservations the night before for a Tuesday dinner at4:30. Honestly there was no other party there but us for about a good 30-40 minutes so I would say a walk in on a Tuesday early on before 5:15 would entail in zero wait. Today was a gorgeous day but we sat inside for maximum vibes. Can't wait to come back!

I got one w rye and rubarb, and it just tasted like a mike's hard lemonade. The mussels were delicious, fat and tender, swimming in a delicious broth that tasted more Thai than French, but really good. Came with a little baguette. The salmon was good, but should be listed as an appetizer. It's under the word 'grand' on the menu which literally means 'big.' Besides being a tiny portion, the sides were only for aesthetic purposes, not for feeding humans. The plate was pretty but not fulfilling. No need to return.

The servers are not just taking orders, they actually understand the menu, the ingredients, the pairings. You can ask questions and get real answers. At one point I thought, these aren't bartenders, they're scientists. The level of knowledge and attention to detail is just different. The food completely lived up to that same standard. Every single person at the table was happy with their meal, which honestly says a lot. No one was picking around their plate or wishing they ordered something else. The chef clearly knows what they're doing. Everything was thoughtful, balanced, and just really, really good. Quick note on dessert though. It didn't quite match the level of the rest of the menu. Not bad, just not on the same level. If you're trying to be strategic, you can probably skip it and leave happy. Parking is easy, which I always appreciate. You've got valet or you can self park, so no stress there. If you're in Rochester, you really can't skip Redd Wood. It's one of those places that makes the whole dining experience feel elevated without being over the top. Definitely worth it.

For the price, we were completely underwhelmed For starters, we ordered two different cocktails. The May queen was fabulous the bebbo was tasty, but you couldn't taste any gin in it We started with the Lyonnaise salad , smoked beets, Swedish meatballs, tuna tartare and chicken wings The salad was our favorite, the tuna lacked flavor and we detected no smokiness in the beets. The meatballs were light and the sauce flavorful, would've loved a few more June berries. Chicken wings were nicely spiced and no too saucy For the main we shared 2 steak frites- a bit more well done than the medium rare ordered but tender and tasty, fries are great- bordelaise sauce didn't have the depth of flavor I expected. For dessert we shared the lemon poppyseed cake and chocolate mouse. The cake was light and Lemony with a hint of poppyseed flavor. The mousse was very odd- super pale in color and the crunchy bits on top did not pair well with the texture of the mousse Service was attentive, sometimes a bit too much- reaching across the table to fill waters... maybe leave a bottle on the table? It was a completely male staff... Male servers, male, valets, male bartenders. We did wonder where the women were.

I love sitting at the bar, the bartenders are very fun to talk to! Let's talk drinks - so many options and the menu is so unique! they have a shaken, still, and bubbly option, something for everyone. I think some of them can be non alcoholic if you ask :) the drinks are always impressive, I've never been disappointed the food menu is perfect for sharing. It's French inspired cuisine so it is definitely meat heavy. My favorite dishes are below: the bahn mi is sooo good, the sauce is creamy and the bread from Flour city is perfectly crunchy The beef tartare is such a great portion and under 20 bucks!! Most places charge a lot more for it. If raw meat is not your thing then I'd avoid it but I'd give it a chance if you're adventurous. And finally the amazing steak - medium rare, juicy, perfectly salted. The fries are super addicting. Not dry at all. They have a good house sauce to dip it in (akin to good luck). Overall this is a AMAZING place with such an inspired drink and food menu. I'm already thinking about my next venture to Cure :)

After perusing Yelp reviews, I found a cozy little place called Grace and Disgraced. It was lovely inside but learned that reservations were required. I asked the owner for a recommendation and he pointed us here. This is exactly what we were looking for! Delicious, rustic French food, beautiful cocktails and a table for two in a charming, glowy dining room. I am serious when I say the charm here is forefront. But not at all second to that charm is the food! I had the merguez sausage over root vegetable and lentils and my friend had the beef bourguignon. Both of these were stand out dishes! The melted brie with chilled potatoes to start complimented these dishes beautifully! The cocktails were so well-made and I can't tell you thankfull I am that we were directed here. It was the perfect place for us to be.
