FAN GIRL ALERT!…read more This was the first real Broadway show for my two friends. I freely admit that I was the one that was shamelessly promoting this show to them. Partly because I knew the plot (both the Jimmy Stewart/Margaret Sullavan version and the Judy Garland/Van Johnson version), but mostly - and I'm being honest now - because Zac Levi. What can I say...I'm a nerdy fan girl. I'm going to try to steer clear of my OMG's, and squees of joy, and my giddy hand clapping. I'm going to try to keep this review as sane as I can. But OMG, I do love me some Zac Levi! I was interested to see how they had changed this from the two classic films (one dramatic, one also a musical.) I was more interested, though, in Zac's performance. You see, I'd seen him in "First Date" on Broadway a few years earlier, and was eager to see how he'd adapted to being back on stage. Phenomenal! One of the things I adore about him is his sweet sense of humor. Seeing him in person during Comic Con and at Nerd HQ, you get to understand that he's truly humble, fun and intelligent, with a quirky, strange, geeky sense of humor. All of that came out on stage through his character. He made us laugh with his dialogue, facial expressions, and physical antics. In short, he was on point that night, and increased our enjoyment level to 11. I expected that. What I did not expect was to be blown away by every other member of the cast. Laura Benanti is beautiful, with a gorgeous and strong singing voice. She also has a knack for comedic timing, and her facial expressions rivaled those that Zac was pulling. Jane Krakowski (who will always be Elaine to me) was stunning in her portrayal of Ilona. Dancing, singing, laughing her way across the stage, she was fun to watch. And the splits! TWICE a night, sometimes more during matinees. Damn! Gavin Creel was incredible. Playing the character you love to hate to a tee, he elicited laughs from the audience and sang and danced his heart out. Nicholas Barasch, who played Arpad, really impressed me. He was the youngest cast member, that was obvious, but he looked and sounded like a seasoned pro. I could go on, but I'm well aware of the fact that I'm approaching fan-girl squee status. So, let me just say that the score was great (looking forward to the cast album, myself). And while I went specifically for Zac Levi, I left in awe of the whole cast. They were all giving out their best that night (though, at stage door, Zac did say that he felt off, after I'd complimented him. Man, if THAT was an off night, I can't even imagine what an on night would be like!) It's a fun, funny, sweet show. The actors work well together, and the plot isn't hard to follow. However, I came across this show on Goldstar and thought it would be an excellent idea. The small theatre located in East Harlem was a wonderful experience. I wasn't sure what to expect due to the size of the venue and when we arrived the ticket line was a bit disorganized, but that was basically the sole negative. As I have never seen the "Wizard of Oz" this was going to be a new experience for myself and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The acting was pretty good and I enjoyed the comedy throughout the show and live band that was on the left side of the stage. My family was pleased and enjoyed the show-- as it's a small intimate venue the cost was extremely low but they still delivered a quality product. The characters also stayed late to take pictures with any and everybody.-- thanks again Scarecrow and Dorothy. I would definitely venture here again, and have interest in watching "A raisin in the sun" here next month, once it starts up again.

I only wished they had mics, and there was a point when someone was "slapped" on stage, but there was no sound. Also, you can very much hear all of the sounds of traffic and talking from outside the theater, especially if you sit higher up, but this also happens in some really nice theaters in Midtown. Sound issues aside, there aren't any "bad" seats in the house. The energy and love of acting are apparent here. That makes up for some shortcomings: a location inside a nondescript tower, a theater that eschews ornate decorations for practical seating, and a neighborhood that can be a tad "lively." I'll definitely be back and will continue to bring people. Thank you HRT for providing theater at an affordable price to an area that may not normally get the opportunity. The seats are small, but not as uncomfortable as other theatre's. There are two bars and they serve fun themed drinks, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. I had the "Don't stop a peachin'" and it was delicious- and super sweet! The show itself was fun. This is NOT a show for kids. They swear, strip down to their underwear, and there is a sex scene (obviously you don't see it). There were a few young children who should not have been there and an entire school group of teenagers sitting behind us. I saw the movie before I saw the show and I did not enjoy it nearly as much as my friend who hadn't seen the movie. The actors were good, but the girl who played Sherie seemed a lot older than the guy who played Drew (who was awesome) and Stacey Jax just didn't have that hot arrogant rocker vibe. The musical's plot was slightly different than the movie there is no CZJ character, but the new character, Hans, was adorable. The backdrop never changes so without seeing the movie you miss that background knowledge of there they are. Overall it was fun. Our tickets were $85.

At one point, I was talking to someone and some other guy showed up then whisked the person I was talking to away (who never came back to continue the conversation, by the way). I'm pretty sure it wasn't some "you're annoying and obnoxious" thing since I hadn't exchanged many words with him, I looked as cute as I normally do and this other guy wasn't there when this first guy approached me. I'm also conservative moderate to apolitical and it felt like if you didn't play in the leftist sandbox, you'd also not be welcome (more a vibe than a direct experience) but that didn't feel like how you should treat someone you've contacted to see about being on your board or who has the background I have. You never know who's going to show up to things or who knows who. There are plenty of other cultural organizations and venues I've gone to where I was treated far more warmly and where it didn't feel like some exclusive club. The stars are for the venue itself being very nice and the exhibit itself being thought provoking and interesting.

I went to New York Live Arts to see Nai-Ni Chen Dance company. It was their 30th year anniversary…read more I so enjoyed the performance. It was based on a lot of Chinese themes but brought in everyday politics through dance. I didn't really see the political reference but it was beautiful. The dancers are very talented. The choreography is brilliant. The theater itself is small. If you go wear light clothing it was quite warm. You will not want to wear a heavy sweater or hat. Definitely worth seeing. The theater looks like it has some interesting performances.

This Broadway…read moremusical is based on a true story that tells the tale of how John Newton penned the hymn, "Amazing Grace." There is an amazing back story to the song that was about slavery, love, bravery. I was completely mesmerized by the show from the very first moment to the last. The musical really takes the audience on a journey... There were a lot of tough and emotional scenes, especially regarding slave trade. The musical gave us a glimpse of the brutality in which the imprisoned slaves were treated. I found myself feeling deeply for the slaves, and tearing up on quite a few occasions. Despite the hard to watch moments, there were many inspirational moments and gestures of kindness, as well. The actors were superb and really captured the audience's attention with their witty dialogue and beautiful singing. The songs were wonderful: Heartfelt, full of meaning and all the actors had gorgeous voices that harmonized perfectly. The main actors were amazing... Josh Young who played John Newton was handsome, manly and stubborn. His character changed drastically during the show and Young portrayed this gracefully. Erin Mackey played Mary Catlett, Newton's love interest and she was absolutely stunningly gorgeous, courageous, compassionate and wonderful. Her soprano voice was pure delight to the ears. There were also a few characters I did not care for, but actually "loved to hate" - They played their villainous parts well. I really liked the lavish costumes as well. The gowns were extravagant in all different colors with lots of pretty lace and material. The outfits for the men were sharp and smart. Overall, "Amazing Grace" was powerful, compelling and beautiful. It will make you cry, laugh, gasp, and feel.

The hymn and song "Amazing Grace" is known throughout the world but most of these people may not know the story of how John Newton wrote and put this hymn to music in 1700s. (I recommend a quick read on John Newton before attending this Broadway show.) The play will take you on an emotional rollercoaster of a journey through the life of John Newton that lead up to the song Amazing Grace. The play has powerful moving scenes that focused on the life of John Newton and the involvement with the brutality of the slave trades. The singing and acting are excellent. The songs are well written. I can't wait for the sound track to come out. Go get tickets now before it officially open on July 16. I can see this show to be very popular and a Tony nominee. Tip: I do not recommend for young children because of the mature topic of slavery and bring tissue for those wet eyes.

With 9 Tony Awards, this taboo-busting, gasp-inducing comedy is the 10th-longest-running Broadway show of all time. It had been a hit with audiences and critics ever since they opened 15 years ago. The Book of Mormon follows two misguided missionaries sent to Uganda, where they get a bit creative with their message in order to convert the skeptical locals. For some of us, this is a repeat performance since 2019, when my partner, his family, and I scored some tickets for yesterday's matinee in row B in the center mezzanine level with an amazing view. Located on West 49th Street in Manhattan's Theatre District, the Eugene O'Neill Theatre boasts a seating capacity of approximately 1,108 seats, divided between the orchestra and mezzanine levels. Even though the line to get in stretched around the block, it was a quick process. By having staff stationed along the street, it was nice to have the bag security checks done before getting to the door. Don't let the fairly plain exterior of the theater fool you; the interior is one of the more lavishly decorated theaters. As it's one of the smaller Broadway venues, seats are known to be on the smaller side; taller patrons may want to select aisle or front-row seats. The actors' performances were outstanding, showcasing their talent and dedication to their roles. Their delivery of the comedic elements was impeccable, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the overall experience. It was phenomenal, start to finish.

Extremely disappointed with the security staff outside the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. On July 26…read morearound 3:30 PM, I was walking my leashed dog past the venue. My dog is currently on prescribed anxiety medication (Fluoxetine) and is extremely sensitive and reactive to loud noises/triggers. My dog briefly sniffed the queue line tape. I immediately called him to "come," and he obeyed, turning to walk away peacefully. Out of nowhere, one of the four security guards on duty aggressively stomped his foot right at my dog to intentionally terrify him, causing my dog to panic and bolt toward Midtown traffic. To make matters worse, the guards literally LAUGHED at my dog's frightened reaction. Intentionally triggering and intimidating a reactive, leashed pet for entertainment--especially when the dog was already peacefully leaving--is malicious and unacceptable. Theater management must address this guard's conduct immediately.

We thought it was a neat little area and would like to explore it again in the future. All that being said, we had a mission and that was to find a small, intimate theatre and that is EXACTLY what INTAR Theatre is. We discovered about "Then They Forgot About the Rest," fell in love with the idea of the play and were delighted to know that we would be able to catch one of its last shows of the season. The show was incredible, the actresses and actors were outstanding and the overall vibe was exactly what my wife and I were hoping for. I would HIGHLY recommended catching a show at this gem of a theatre!
