PACE is a great "idea". This is the description in their website The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, or PACE, was established by Medicare to help independent seniors with complex medical needs. The program helps participants avoid nursing homes and instead, receive the care and services necessary to help them stay safe, comfortable, and healthy living in their own home.
PACE offers care coordination, transportation, social services, and meals, all in a positive, comfortable environment. It's health care that puts the focus on 'care,' connecting seniors with peers in their community as well as the PACE staff who are committed to treating participants with dignity, respect, and compassion.
All nice and makes you want to participate. However, there are so many things that this program does not meet. My mom has been part of this program for seven years. The first few years she was happy to attend and was always looking forward to going. Throughout the years the program has changed and so are the employees. Nowadays the activities at the center have declined and participants are boarded and literally sleeping on their chairs. The activities should be the heart of PACE. The participants need a place where they are active and comfortable participating. The only way to accomplish this is that the 3 ladies actually engage with the participants. NO EXCUSE!! they go inside their office and play with tablets. To keep the participants in the center according to them active, they give them a paper to color or find words. Sorry PACE this is unacceptable. I try calling the center many times. They haven't changed anything. I'm just writing this review so others can see if this is want for their parents. read more
