My father unfortunately was placed into this facility after becoming unable to care for himself. He was mourning the death of my mother, who died almost 3 years ago, and he himself was slowly dying of heart failure which no one even knew about. My sisters and I trusted he would be okay at this facility and for a little while, things seemed to be alright. I live in Colorado and my two other sisters live in New York and Minnesota so traveling to visit him was harder to do. However, we texted every day and one text conversation, my father mentioned someone had fallen asleep in his room on his bed (he slept in a recliner) and he described the person and it fit the description of someone who worked there. The owner quickly brushed it off and after trying to get answers, never heard about it again. My father mentioned he was yelled at by some of the staff when a ride came to get him for an appointment. Now, my sister said she forgot to mention to the owner that a ride was coming, however, why are you yelling at my father to stand up and get dressed when he was too weak to even move. Extremely sad and unprofessional. My father was there for just a short time before he sadly died and the reason of my one star review is what the owner told my sister about why we could not receive the $6500 back that we had already paid for. My dad died May 1st of 2023, not long into the day, so we were wanting to receive that money back to help pay for lawyer fees and bills that my parents had racked up and whatever else that came up. My sister spoke to Anna, the owner, who told my sister that the reason we could not be refunded was, "your father was heavy and the room is empty now". Unreal and disgusting. I had no words but anger. My father required little assistance and wanted to bother no one. He had lost so much weight from his heart failure, and she had the audacity to say he weighed a lot? I'm so sorry our father died, Anna and that the room is empty so we cannot pay for it anymore. We would love to be able to have our father back. Had she mentioned it was in the contract for no refunds, sure. That would have been more reasonable. She never offered to pro-rate us. Never asked for us to pay more cause he "weighed too much". Never offered to do the right thing. These places are so money hungry and I feel just awful my dad had to go through that. I'm really so jealous of these great reviews. I wish my dad could have been treated better, even after he died. read more

Anna Wilson is a very nice and upbeat former RN who is a very hands on owner of this beautiful home. We call it a home because the term Residential Elderly Care Facility doesn't do it justice. It's beautiful open and airy and each room has french doors leading directly out to an enclosed patio area surrounding a a pretty fountain where residents can sit outside and enjoy the sun. My wife and I were so lucky to find this place for her mother who has been so well taken care of and treated like family. All her needs were taken care of and in all the years she was there, Anna never raised the rent even while many improvements to the property were done. We recommend Alta Vista Manor to anyone who prefers a more intimate setting than a large impersonal assisted living facility. read more

Anna and her staff are great! Had Mom here for 3 years and they took excellent care of her. To me one of the best things is they had the exact same staff for all 3 years, this consistency made for a comfortable environment that allowed Mom to enjoy her twilight years. Mom had a nice large room with a huge walk in closet, private bath, and a patio! Mom had several special care requirements including dialysis, and they always made sure those needs were met. The small resident headcount makes for a safer environment, and everyone made it through the pandemic without a Covid illness. read more

One day the phone rang and our life changed. In this case, we got the "fall call" that Dad could no longer live in his Carlsbad home. For three years, he had two wonderful companions that cooked and drove him places, but had no medical training. We had to find a new safe place, with medical care (doctor visits) and it had to feel like home. There was no interest in a big institution. We toured several board and care facilities with some that were as small as six residents. We needed to find the right mix of positive attitude, attentive care and family setting. Some were too small. Some had owners that were not there much. Some just didn't feel right - listen to your gut. Finally, we found our solution. Alta Vista Manor is a residential care facility for elders run by Anna Wilson and her staff of long term caregivers. The first thing you notice when you drive-up are the palm trees and multiple water fountains - a feeling of resort and luxury. When you enter, it is very clean and bright and you can't help but notice the custom gathering table created by Anna's husband, John. It is large enough to seat all residents and a few guests to enjoy their home cooked meals. Sunlight floods into most rooms and there are private patios from many of the rooms. Staff members are always close by or available by monitor to answer questions or assist residents. Many of the staff have been at Alta Vista for years. It gives you a sense of security and you know that that everyone there cares about "their people". Anna is a very hands on manager and knows each resident personally. She treats them like her own family and always has a special birthday celebration for each person. She knows what is going on in their lives and can anticipate issues; both medical and emotional. My father-in-law has been a resident at Alta Vista for over a year now and I feel he is safe and well taken care. This is very important because we live in Chicago - over 2,000 miles away. read more

The kindness, compassion ​and professionalism the staff provided her was a tremendous comfort not only to my mother but also for our family. We were recommended to this place by a friend. Words can barely express our happiness at finding this place for my sister. She was very ill and had dementia. Anna and her family and staff took her under their wings and gave her the kind of care only devoted family members could give. They are unbelievable angels. Her entire staff has been with her for many years and all guests are treated like their family members. We moved Mom from another location to Alta Vista Manor at Mom's doctor's recommendation. He felt she would thrive in the "home-like" environment. She enjoyed having her own private room, private bathroom, and lovely large patio which we filled with flowers for her to tend. She loved the homemade meals around the table with other residents, and holiday and birthday celebrations. Quiet afternoons sitting in the common area courtyard made this feel like home. Anna is loving, warm and genuinely cares about the residents. Anna and team have been with us as Mom's health declined and dementia increased. At this stage, Mom doesn't speak or seem to recognize us, so we are so grateful if she has any moments of remembering, she knows she is in a familiar place, with good memories, where she is cared for and loved. read more

What a blessing to have found this wonderful place for our mother. All the great care, all the hugs, all the laughs, all the love. So much better than a skilled nursing facility. They became her family and hold a special place in our hearts as well. So thankful she was at a safe place during all the CoVid 19 restrictions. We placed our Dad at Alta Vista Manor and have been very happy with the care he receives. Anna, the owner, is great! She is very attentive to his needs. With his declining health because of advanced vascular dementia, everyone has been wonderful. Andre, the manager, has been especially helpful. The rooms are very nice and spacious with fireplaces and big TV's. Also, all the meals are home cooked. It has an overall homelike, cozy feel compared to some of the bigger facilities. Alta Vista Manor is extremely well managed. I have personally witnessed Anna and her staff bend over backwards to meet resident needs. I looked at a lot of boarding facilities for my very I'll and very elderly mother. Alta Vista Manor was the only one in the area that felt more like a loving home than an institution. Once my mother was there, Anna and her team went so above and beyond the call to take care of her. Not only did they stay in regular contact with me, and deal with my mothers illnesses and her doctors, and set up hospice, but most importantly they made my mother feel LOVED. They was such a sense of caring there. The degree of kindness was far beyond anything I could have anticipated. My mother stayed there until the end of her life and I always felt that my mother was in good hands, nurtured, cared for, loved, and supported. Thank you Anna. I am so grateful to have found Alta Vista Manor for my 90 year mom. The owners and caregivers go over and beyond the call of duty. Their home is large a beautiful and my mom is very happy with her room and the care and attention she receives. If you are looking for a place for your loved one that will give you peace of mind that they will be taken care of in the best way possible, I would recommend going to talk to Anna, the owner. She is a former RN, has been doing this work for over 20 year. She is professional, extremely knowledgable and very kind and easy to work with. I have had my mom at another facility, where she was badly mistreated, so I am so very thankful to have her at Alta Vista. I feel so grateful to have found such an amazing place for my uncle! The facility is beautiful - more like a 5 star resort than a nursing care facility. The staff are happy and kind. And the if the food is tastes like it looks and smells, it is delicious! After looking at many care facilities, I was blown away by Alta Vista. Anna is wonderful, and obviously sets the standard for those who work there. I spoke to several residents and a family member, and everyone loves the place. Most of the residents have been there for years, and show no signs of wanting to be anywhere else. On the day I came to tour the place (with only a half hour notice to Anna), it was "beauty shop day". There was a stylist there and several residents were happily chatting while waiting their turn in the stylist's chair. The room I got for my uncle is absolutely beautiful! It has a gas fireplace, a huge TV, an automated recliner and sliding glass doors leading out to a private patio area. There is a very large private bathroom and walk-in closet. And the furnishings are just lovely. The main areas of the facility are spacious and airy, and there is an large enclosed lanai at the entry area. Anna's two small dogs are the residents' darlings, and they are very protective of the residents. If I got too close, one of the dogs let me know that it was not okay. I can't say enough about this wonderful place and the truly amazing woman who runs it. It is such a relief to have found someplace like this for my uncle. Thank you, Anna! read more
