Their customer service is trash. If I could I would give zero stars for the manager being so rude and disrespectful and condescending at my complaint. So yesterday Friday November 16 I purchased a dozen donuts, later in the day I brought them home and they were not fully cooked in the middle so I took the remaining donuts to the store (nov. 17) today. For starters this has to be a regular occurrence because the manager did not even come out to look at the doughnuts or speak to me when I first brought them in. Not everyone handles business the same but if it were my establishment I would be shocked and I would want to come and apologize and evaluate the situation. But not everyone is the same ‍. Mind you the regular staff is very polite and nice and I've always had a good experience up until today. So when I bring in the donuts in the cashier looks at them, takes it to the back and I see an arm that i assume is the managers, the lady touches the outside of one donut, then the cashiers walks back to the register, he says no words to me and he just proceeds to fumble into the register and hand me 4 dollars?? At this point I'm confused because no one has said any words about the donuts or issue an apology or asked if I would like a refund or even if I wanted another dozen to replace them(which I definitely didn't). I was also surprised at the fact that they were under done since the donuts were so brown on the outside so they probably had their oil up too high which could be a common occurrence but I guess she was too prideful to admit that. So then the guy at the register has to yell to the manager in the back twice to come talk to me. she comes out looking at me And says no words so I explained to her What has happened and she proceeds to condescendingly smile and nod her head repeating the words "yeah" and "right" while I talk so she's obviously not listening. She then tells me that since I only brought in for of the dozen donuts that I would only get a four dollar refund. Now for starters I never even asked for a refund but they're trying to shove the four dollars at the issue as if that solves the problem. No one has asked me if I would like another dozen no one has apologized and no one has asked if I even wanted a refund to begin with . So at this point i am visibly and audibly frustrated at how blissfully rude she has been. I explained to her that people ate part of the doughnut and then threw the rest of it away because it was under done. So then she proceeds to talk about in her 20 years of business she's never made underdone Donuts which is a lie because my father has purchased one of their large donuts and brought it home a few months ago and it was not done on the inside as well donuts as well. We just figured maybe because it was so big it was under done and didn't bring it back. I proceed to talk about how it's a bigger issue than four dollars and people can get sick from eating under done food and the guy just nods his head. At this point the woman is obviously not open to hearing my complaint and the guy still trying to hand me the four dollars, and the manager walks away so I politely slide the donuts into the trashcan tell them that they can keep their measly four dollars and sh*tty donuts and that I won't be returning. I even told them that if they didn't believe me why would they give a refund and why would I be bringing donuts back the next day for fun?? The only picture I have is to show how they looked done and even a little more brown than usual on the outside but i wasn't able to take a picture of the underdone insides. read more

For my daughter's birthday party at the school she wanted to have donuts. I was recommended to this donut shop by my step-mom. I was able to call a couple of days in advance and pre-order 3 dozen donuts for morning pickup. Once I was there I was able to add another dozen. There prices are decent. Taste is great. As I write, there are 2 plain old fashion donuts from Al's Donuts on our kitchen counter beckoning me, tempting me with naughty promises of calorie-filled deliciousness. I am fasting for 24 hours and have been watching the clock for the past 2 hours, 41 minutes, counting down to 4:30 when my fasting will be over. Then, come to mama! I don't usually crave sweets so am not a donut exp ert. All I know is that Al's Donuts always has a nice Asian guy serving, a good selection of donuts even at closing time (which is the only time I can make it there and even though I usually just get plain old fashion), and I thoroughly enjoy their donuts the few times I go. They are conveniently located, albeit somewhat hidden, in the Raley's shopping center next to Wong's restaurant, with plenty of parking right in front. True story: Had an out-of-the-blue massive craving for a donut this past weekend. Ignored it--until Tuesday, when I just happened to be passing Al's while they were still open. I didn't have my wallet so had to search the car for loose change. (Note to self: replenish loose change in car.) Due to limited budget on hand, I only got a plain old fashion for me and a chocolate donut for the bf (I'm considerate like that). Slowly nibbled on my old fashion in the car during the 4-minute drive home. I was fully expecting my donut craving to be over by the end of the donut because it usually is. But when I got home, I started eying my bf's donut. And ended up eating half. I would've eaten the whole thing but I wanted to save something for him. Donut craving still not satisfied. Huh? If anything, it only grew. FEED ME donuts!, my belly bellowed. The following day, Wed, I rushed o get to Al's before their 2pm closing but was literally 2 minutes too late. Noooooooo!!!! Was this god's way of telling me to make a fruit smoothie instead? Maybe. So I made a peach berry smoothie. It didn't help. For the rest of the day, I could not stop thinking about donuts. I even googled donuts, just to look at pictures. I tried to research all the different kinds of donuts there were. Crumb, cinnamon, sprinkles, blueberry. (But really I still only wanted my plain old fashion.) Today, Thurs, I had a podiatrist appt right across the street. When I was done, I looked at the clock. 1pm. Al's is still open! I literally got giddy. Doh-NUTS! doh-NUTS!, my brain started chanting the entire 1-minute it took me to drive across the street. When I got there, I looked at all the different kinds they had, then proceeded to order my usual plain old-fashion for me and a maple bar for the boyfriend (his favorite). Learned my lesson from last time, so got 2 plain old fashion donuts for me this time. All 3 donuts are still sitting on the table as we wait til 4:30. Only 27, no 26 minutes to go. I am amazed I have the willpower to have waited this long. Visions of tearing into the donuts, barely chewing, with big crumbs splattered all over my mouth and face flash into my mind. 4:22. This place would have gotten 5 stars if the donut's were cheaper. Ok enough about bad stufff...let's talk about how much they rock! The donuts are always fresh, moist, and tasty. The staff has ALWAYS greeted me with a huge smile and have been VERY pateint. You know how it is, all those donuts, staring at you, begging you to just pick them! Oh, the donuts are also decent size! I have to mention that, becuase a lot of places that are cheaper just give you smaller ones. The best thing about this place is that for some reason, every single time I have gone, they have given me an extra donut for free! Which WAY outweighs their price! I've been to a stellar donut shop where I gladly paid $10 for 6 donuts (see donut mania in my reviews) but this place should have paid me to eat their sorry excuse for a donut. These are good doughnuts, definitely better than Krispy Kreme. So come here instead of getting those for sure. It's a small mom and pop shop where a bunch of friendly old geezers get together and have coffee and doughnuts. I don't know if it's the same geezers in there every day or a different crew or what but there's really no cooler vibe for a doughnut shop so I give them a 4 for the authentic doughnut shop vibe. They don't have any fancy flavors and one time the giant apple bear claw I got was raw dough inside so I have to give them a 3.5 for the doughnuts. I should have taken it back because I'm sure they would have given me something else. But that was the only bad doughnut I've ever had there. They are all good, solid, homemade doughnuts. read more

I called to see if they have buttermilk donuts, which can be a rarity believe it or not. The women on the phone offered to set one aside for me. I took her up on it and drove right on over. I didn't know this side of the Raley's plaza existed. The shop is clean and has a local donut place vibe. The type of place where they'll get to know your order if you go enough. The met the young woman who set my donut aside. She had a vibrant personality, so if $1.15 for a buttermilk is high, I don't care. They get a Bay Area hella as in, it was hella good. It tasted very fresh and not dry at all. I think they take credit cards at $5 or more. Finally found something to motivate me to go grocery shopping. The Donuts here are delicious. I have to admit, I rarely have donuts, but every now and then I grab a dozen to bring to work for the guys. I stopped in on the way to work and found that Al's had a huge selection of Donuts, and still had a good variety at 07:30 AM. Not much space to sit down in the shop and have a Doughnut and Coffee if that's your thing. I think that this place has two tables total in the restaurant. I think for me, whats keeping this place from a higher review is some of their business practices. I hate the feeling of going to a restaurant and getting nickeled and dimed. I would rather pay a straight up price up front, rather than get a bunch of surprise "Add-on" charges. So, I order a dozen donuts, and ask them to make a variety, and add a maple bar and a Cinnamon Twist. Instead of being straight up with me and saying, hey "It's a couple bucks more for you to add these on" , to allow me to make the choice, they add on the charges at the end. Then I go to pay with my Credit/Debit card, and they add on another 75 cents to use my debit/credit card. Sorry folks, I call that the cost of doing business, taking a credit or debit card. Your selling donuts, not gasoline, so raise your price by a buck, people don't enjoy hidden charges, as small as they may be. I don't like the dishonest nature of up selling and hidden charges. Some of the donuts were not all that fresh when we opened up the box at work, i guess the moral to that is to ask for the donuts off the rack behind the counter instead of the ones behind the glass in the display case. Next time I want a doughnut, I might be back, as long as I have cash, and I am able to pin them down to what the doughnut is actually going to cost. read more
