I wish I had written down the exact address of this place so that it would be easier to find, but basically it's across the street from the ferry docks (which are across from the Windward Passage Hotel) but a little bit back toward the center of town. There's actually a promising food truck one block further toward town too. Al's has some tables in front with umbrellas, and a well air-conditioned small indoor cafe. It was by FAR the best and cheapest food we had in St. Thomas, as well as the friendliest service, and this is saying something because cheap food and friendly service are hard to come by there. We had huge helpings of chicken and rice, mashed potatoes, fried fish with spicy sauce, a hearty and spicy chicken soup, johnnycakes, fried shrimp, bush tea with lemongrass and ginger, fresh passion fruit juice... it was amazing. We came at slightly off hours and so things had been in the steam table for a bit, but they were still delicious. Four of us pigged out for under $50, which might not sound cheap unless you've tried to eat in St. Thomas on a budget. On Sundays they barbecue, which we were super sad to miss. If you can track this place down you will be much happier than at any of the various terrible tourist restaurants available! Cash only. :) read more
