They left my front door wide open and never turned the gate back on so if I hadn't gone back for cleaning supplies my door would've been left open over night. When I told the only guy who spoke English he said "I wasn't the last one out" no apologies just a lazy answer. They never unpacked properly. I started unpacking the kitchen, so they had an idea of where things went. They didn't try, they just unpacked random stuff and threw it in places. Appliances were disassembled which could have easily been put together. My cake stand was in two thrown on the counter top with a box over the glass in an unsafe manner. They said they were scheduled to come back tomorrow and when I called to complain about how the place left they said the job was done and I should've said something before they left. I told them they should leave instead of waiting for me to return after picking up my daughter they told me had to pay. Which understood I'll pay for the day, but the packing job was not done. In the end, it was Square Cow's overly confident answering service that convinced me to go with them. Big mistake. I hired them to move a large bedroom set from a second-floor bedroom to the garage--something I clearly communicated was not a simple task. I had over four phone calls, sent multiple photos, and explicitly discussed the risks and challenges involved. Each time, I was told everything was "in the notes" and the movers would be properly equipped with straps and the right tools. I even spoke directly with the operations manager the day before the move. He reassured me--again--that his crew would be fully prepared. He even advised me not to purchase additional insurance, claiming it was an easy job and not worth the extra cost. Then moving day arrived. The crew showed up completely unprepared. No straps. No proper equipment. Within minutes, they dropped the first piece of furniture, severely damaging it. The rest of the move was borderline reckless. The crew themselves admitted that Square Cow doesn't provide them with tools or care about their safety--or the customers' belongings. According to them, "Square Cow only cares about making money." After my experience, I believe it. I filed a damage claim, and now I'm stuck in their slow, unresponsive process that may take up to 90 days to maybe--maybe--get a fraction of what the damage is worth. Bottom line: they talk a good game on the phone, but they have zero follow-through. The left hand has no clue what the right is doing, and they clearly don't equip their crews to do the job safely or professionally. Their so-called claims department is a joke. What was promised to be a simple, professional, 5-hour move turned into a two-day nightmare involving unauthorized price hikes, gross operational incompetence, and the owner, Bret Gowens, attempting to force thousands of uncontracted dollars from me before unloading a single item. Here are the exact, undeniable facts of what happened: When booking Estimate #1724, I gave consultant Nelson Morris exhaustive details to ensure a realistic quote. I explicitly elaborated on every single item in my 904 sq ft 2-bedroom apartment, including all furniture, clothing, knick-knacks, breakables, trinkets, and decor. Nelson originally quoted me a 3-4 hour range, but after I emphasized the volume of fragile items and decor, he bumped it to a 4-5 hour range just to "be safe," stating he was confident that was the absolute max time required for the entire move. At our contracted rate of $220.00/hour, that locked our expectation at $1,100.00. My contract was stamped as a "Binding Estimate" with an absolute worst-case contractual cap of $3,100.00. Despite giving them a precise, conservative roadmap, the crew's incompetence was staggering. On Day 1, they took 8 hours just to pack a portion of a 904 sq ft apartment, left the move completely unfinished, and took my life's belongings to their facility overnight. On Day 2, they showed up at 9:00 AM and didn't finish packing and loading until around 2:00 PM. Let this sink in: they had FIVE MEN in total on the day of the move. Five grown men spent a collective 12 hours packing and loading, and they STILL could not manage to get a standard, 904 sq ft 2-bedroom apartment packed up. To be clear, I didn't even have an excess amount of furniture! We explicitly told them to leave our mattress and our couch behind, and the second bedroom was just an office space containing a single desk. How it takes five professional movers 12 full hours to fail at loading a lightly furnished apartment is beyond comprehension. Furthermore, a massive amount of items were packaged in an absurd, nonsensical way purely to burn time and inflate our bill. For example, a small, indestructible metal figurine was wrapped in a massive packing sheet over 10 times. Not only was this an absolute waste of hourly time, but it also intentionally tacked on additional packing supply fees AND forced us to use extra boxes because tiny items were made artificially bulky, taking up unnecessary space in the truck. It is explicitly clear that they do this on purpose as a predatory way to manufacture extra charges. To make matters even more insulting, while still loading at the old apartment on Day 2, Bret and his crew actually began setting our belongings outside on the ground. They tried to passive-aggressively push my wife and my brother (who had come over to help us) to load our own personal items into our personal cars just so the movers wouldn't have to deal with them! We were paying them a premium to move for us. We should not have had to move anything or do a single shred of manual labor, yet we still ended up doing their work. Because of their pure, systemic inefficiency, a move estimated for under 5 hours dragged out until the entire move took a staggering 18.5 hours in total. When it came time to unload at the new residence, the owner himself, Bret Gowens, demanded that I pay the absolute maximum contractual cap of $3,100.00, claiming the move "well surpassed" the ceiling. I had zero issues with paying for the full 5 hours that was the original max estimate, and I explicitly offered to pay that $1,100 amount before my belongings were unloaded. Bret flatly refused. Bret Gowens is a textbook wolf in sheep's clothing. He puts on a very smooth, professional act to earn your trust, but underneath that polished facade, he is a total snake who will boldly lie straight to your face. While demanding this $3,100, he kept saying, "We have no reason to cheat our customers and we take our reputation very seriously and don't want to jeopardize that." YET, at that exact moment, he was spinning fake legal authority, claiming he was within his "legal right" to withhold my belongings and keep them locked in the truck unless I forked over the full $3,100. He tried to use a fraudulent interpretation of the law to bully, intimidate, and force an extra $2,000 from me. I had to pull out my phone, look up the text, and force him to look at the exact legal codes proving that what he was doing is completely against the law.
