Let me start by saying that I've known some excellent doctors, and have had a couple of…read moreearth-shatteringly bad experiences as well. Dr. Julie Reardon has surpassed my wildest expectations of what a family physician CAN--and is willing--to do. I think that's in part because she is a phenomenal physician and person, and I suppose the Harvard education and work with Dr. Andrew Weil doesn't hurt. I'll add that all of the folks in her office are equally as competent and caring. If you are contemplating a visit to Dr. Reardon, it's because you haven't been feeling as well as you should--probably for quite some time. Your insurance-covered doctor has run some general tests that haven't shown anything all that extraordinary; and while you may greatly respect your PCP as I do, you realize that time and budget constraints limit the ability to which they can explore your issues. You may have been told that it's your impending menopause, or your weight, or that you perhaps should consider antidepressants. This is the state of medicine in our current era of managed care, and it's nobody's fault. Sometimes it just IS. Know that, if you can afford her services, "Dr. Julie" will leave no stone unturned in helping you find that road to recovery. She's not one of those "vanity doctors" who will hand you creams, diets, and vitamins to make you ageless and extra hot...although feeling better usually makes you look better! She's a serious, science-based physician with an uncanny ability to relate the typically unrelated, and see the "big picture" of your health situation. In our initial visit, she caught on to trending issues I'd never thought of before, including a potential genetic makeup that leaves me prone to certain problems with mood and energy level that are exacerbated by stress...and I've had a year of that! She ran a gamut of tests after explaining the purpose of each one, and uncovered a problem so critical it was a wonder I even had the energy to get out of bed in the morning. I am no less impressed with our follow-up discussions. She has referred to another provider for an area outside of her realm, and also recommended simple vitamin and supplement changes that will do me a world of good. At the same time, she's not that earth-crunchy guru that's going to mandate that that you live on purified air and chants...hers are moderate lifestyle changes for real people living in our everyday world. Dr. Julie doesn't take insurance, but that allows her to spend true quality time with the patients who sign on with her. I will say that, for the fees involved, I feel like it's been a very good choice for my healthcare dollars. I am finally getting some solid answers as to why I've felt HORRIBLE over just this last year, and I finally feel confident knowing someone's got my back while I take steps to get better. I think there are a lot of docs out there who dream of having a practice like Dr. Julie's--and she has made that dream a reality. When I think about how quickly Dr. Julie started "cracking the case", and all the co-pays and labs past that never quite addressed my issue, I realize that I have now SAVED time and money in the long run. What's more...I could have gotten REALLY sick were it not for Dr. Julie and her findings. She very well might have saved my future from being...well, not so bright. Thinking about calling for an appointment with Dr. Julie Reardon? I say go for it...you will NOT regret it, and you have everything to gain.

I did exactly that -- during normal business hours -- and once again was routed to an AI bot instead of a human being. At that point, I decided to move on and seek care elsewhere. Then today, I unexpectedly received a text message stating that my "appointment previously booked with BWell Clinic - Lakeway on Wed 5/20 at 11:00 AM is rescheduled." This was extremely confusing considering I was previously told I was never on the schedule to begin with. At 11:45 AM, during regular business hours, I attempted to call the clinic again. Once again, I was forced through the AI system. The bot repeatedly requested my name and birthdate. Even after providing the information multiple times, it continued asking for my birthdate over and over again until I finally gave up and hung up the phone in frustration. At this point, my issue is no longer just a scheduling mistake -- it is the complete lack of human customer service and accountability. Patients should be able to reach an actual person, especially when dealing with scheduling errors and medical appointments. Technology should support a business, not replace basic communication and respect for patients. I will not be doing business with this clinic.

She is caring, skilled, compassionate, highly educated (never stops learning), and I will be forever grateful to her. It is because of Dr. Harris, that my darling dog Stewie (Boston Terrier), not only survived, but thrived with the death sentence of Aggressive B cell lymphoma for nearly 3 years (instead of living for merely weeks or months, as is more typical). He lived to be 12 years old. I, at first, found one of the few oncology vet centers in Austin, and was discouraged to hear that harsh chemo was the first in line treatment option, and that I'd need to drop him off in the morning, and leave him all day (each week). As someone who practices integrative medicine, I was hopeful that there might be a less toxic treatment option to start with, instead of the traditional, by the book chemo. My dog had been doing wonderfully at this point, still feeling great, and was on a low glycemic, hormone free, home cooked diet with supplements. The cancer had not yet overwhelmed his system. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Harris (who, at the time, was at CTVSH). I got on her (months long) waiting list right away, and she was, kindly, able to work me in within a week. Although she was overbooked/ back to back at the clinic, she spent so much time with me, answering my endless questions. She never lost patience, never made me feel awkward, a pain, or rushed. She only reassured me with her expert opinions formed from decades of study and hands on experience, along with her lovely bedside manner. It was obvious that she truly cared and wanted what was best for Stewie and I! My hope was renewed! After our meeting, (and a lot of testing, including DNA tests to see what medications would likely work best on his particular cancer), we decided to try a brand new immunotherapy drug called Laverdia CA-1 (it was relatively inexpensive, and a pill I gave at home just twice a week)! I knew that if it failed, we could move on to a more traditional course. Laverdia did not typically work very well, or for very long for the majority of dogs, but we were very lucky that Stewie responded incredibly well to it, (it kept the cancer knocked back), and we continued this simple treatment for about a year and a half! He enjoyed a normal, healthy happy life! He lived on this drug for much longer than any other dog has to date. Once the laverdia finally ceased to be effective, the cancer became much more aggressive, and I wanted to try something else. She presented to me the best possible options, allowed me to read up, and to choose the next line of treatment from the recommended choices. If she was ever unsure of the answer to one of my questions, or next best steps (Stewie was a very rare, one of a kind case), she would research, and often would reach out to her online network of other Oncology Vets Nationwide, to compare notes/patients, and for more clarity. Krystal is always up on the latest and greatest medical breakthrough advances! She practices integrative medicine, and combines the best of modern and holistic medicine. She also saved me many thousands of dollars because she does not mark up the cost of drugs/tests (as all of the clinics do)! You are only paying Krystal for her valuable skill, time, and cost of supplies and meds. Soon after seeing Krystal, CTVSH went through a lot of upheaval, raised all of the prices, and lost the majority of their wonderful staff. I searched for Krystal online once CTVSH had their unfortunate change, and thankfully, I found her! A Mobile Veterinary service that includes everything that the large oncology clinics do, but in the comfort of your own home! Now she can take her time with each patient and have a healthy work/life balance with her family. In the end, Stewie declined very suddenly (overnight), and I knew it was time for him to rejoin the divine source from which he came. I had not even talked to Krystal about this inevitable part of the situation. She explained to me that she does hospice care as well as compassionate euthanasia. She made Stewie comfortable, and gave me a pamphlet with many options (from a local pet funeral home) who offer burial or cremation, and all that goes along with that. She came to my home, and he was able to cross over peacefully. She took his body to the funeral home for me, and I later received his ashes from her, in a beautiful rosewood box. There is no one else I would have wanted to go through this with. Krystal had become a dear friend to both Stewie and I, and it made this painful transition so much less stressful. Know that if you are ever faced with the unfortunate diagnosis of cancer in your pet, you can feel confident in calling on Dr. Harris. She will treat your pet as one of her own. Dr. Krystal is one in a million, so be kind to her and know that you and your pet are in great hands. Wishing you well, Kim Simpson

There's the main hospital which is quite large, and across the drive is a tall building that houses all of the specialty clinic offices (i.e., cardiology, obgyn, colorectal surgeon, GIs, etc). A complete renovation of the interior was completed during Covid when the clinics were closed. It's all bright, shiny and new, and now all the check in counters are on each side of a very wide long hallway on every floor. I really like all of the physicians and NPs that I see. It has taken me over six years to build my medical team and several of them are part of BSW. My favorite by far is my cardiologist. My least "dreaded" appointment to attend. Would be five stars, but a few things to note: like a few others have said, scheduling can be a bit of a nightmare at times. There's a central line you must call if you are unable to schedule through your patient portal (which is most often the case). I really wish I had the ability to contact each physician's office separately to speak to the schedulers who I personally know. And yes, some specialists are booked months out, sometimes into the following year. The specialty clinics appear to be understaffed. The parking garage is also not very convenient. It is located a little far away, and is not idea for someone with limited mobility. I have an inpatient procedure coming in the future, so I will be able to give an updated review of my experience at that time. Wish me luck!

I came across Dr. Freeland's name and looked up and read that he went to medical school in the same small town that I went to college, Kirksville, Missouri. If you chose to be a D.O. instead of an M.D., then Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine was a good choice. While I lived in Kirksville I got to know a couple of men who were surgery professors. They were outstanding men of character and counted it an honor to be known by them. So, when I read that this Dr. Freeland was in Lakeway I was looking forward to meeting him and having him be my new Primary Care Physician. My first appointment with Dr. Freeland was as if they had shredded any and all information about me. After my heart surgery the Mayo Clinic sent all my records to Bee Cave Family Practice. Mayo is one of top two Heart Hospitals in the world (you will receive the finest care there.). So, when I went for my initial visit and then filling out all the however many pages just to have my blood drawn for a INR value they were not at all prepared for a 2 minute blood draw and I could be on my way. My appointment finished at around 11:50 and was asked to come back after lunch at 1:00 to take blood sample, I left and came back later and finally got it drawn. The next time I came back I found the front office team to be disorganized. I was most frustrated that they did not call me (even though they said they would) to let me know the INR results. As I stated previously, I was really looking forward to having this doctor, but with several issues for me after only two visits I needed to find someone else. This is all the more astounding because nutrition was her undergraduate degree. She also doesn't appear to practice evidence-based medicine. After her asking me what I eat in a typical day, she asked, "Where do you get your protein?" (Ugh. The idea that protein is hard to come by is flatly wrong and severely outdated. As Dr. Nestle, chair of the NY University nutrition dept. said, *26* years ago "We never talk about protein anymore, because it's absolutely not an issue, even among children. If anything, we talk about the dangers of high-protein diets. Getting enough is simply a matter of getting enough calories." The DV/RDA is ~8% of calories from protein, while grains are ~13% protein, vegetables 23%, etc.) She then tried to tell me that I had to combine plants foods to get a complete protein. (That was an urban legend promoted by a popular 1971 book, whose author recanted ten years later. The USDA nutrient database shows that individual vegetables, grains, and beans have all essential amino acids, in higher amounts than what we need.) Finally, she said I should eat more fat. I asked if there were science to support the idea that an addition of fat to an otherwise healthy diet improves health outcomes. Her reply was like, "I've been a doctor for 20 years...." Meaning, no science. By the way, she asked why I chose her, and I said that one of her patients wrote in a review about how he was able to get off all his meds for Crohn's Disease. Dr. Ikbal replied that the patient took himself off the meds, it wasn't her doing. Anyway, after hearing so much misinformation in just a brief, limited interaction, I have to wonder what other misinformation Dr. Ikbal is operating on. If you want a physician who practices evidence-based medicine, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. UPDATE: After I left the above review, suddenly DOZENS of glowing 5-star reviews appeared within a few days, about 1/3 of which are from people not even in the Austin area, many not even in the same state, and many of whom have zero other reviews on Yelp. Yelp has understandably moved most of these to the "Reviews Not Recommended" section. Is Dr. Ikbal buying fake reviews? Draw your own conclusions.
