Food was fresh. Had some rice that was still crunchy in the center and the fish pieces were smaller than what I'm used to. We walked up, placed our order, and did a quick lap as I had hadn't been there before. Lots of great restaurants I'd love to come back and try! When we came back, our food was ready. Place was clean and modern. My friend comes weekly for his fix, and I'd certainly come back with him!!

I did not go into this expecting it to be like the Hawaiian poke I was eating a few weeks ago, and it wasn't. The staff was quick in making the orders and I LOVE that they asked if we needed utensils for our to go bowls. We didn't, so no need to waste plastic flatware or chopsticks on us! On sight, it looked good. I had a salad base and the microgreens were bright. The salmon and ahi tuna were chopped into much smaller cubes than I've ever had for poke, but that's okay. The four stars are because the volcano sauce, which is listed as spicy, is SO spicy that I couldn't taste anything beyond the heat. The sauce would be good in a small dose, but it was covering both my husband's and my bowls, leaving little else to be tasted. You can see the red pepper flakes held together with a little mayo in the topping. SO! Because I think there is a lot of goodness under the volcano sauce, I plan to go back but steer clear of the heat.

5/5 would recommend. It has fresh and healthy ingredients and a welcoming friendly staff.

    Salmon/tuna and every topping available!

Used to be my favorite poke place in Chicago. Now they have the smallest portions for the highest prices.

We joked we could go back and just order several potstickers appetizers and be completely satisfied. But seriously, everything was very good. We got the King Kamehameha share meal. We found out that the kitchen is technically closed from 2-5pm, but they could still serve some limited options. The food is pretty good. I didn't know what to expect since it had been years since I had Hawaiian food. My cousin and I both had the combo plate which was their chicken and pork dishes. Yum!!! The serving was very generous. It's plenty of food for two, so we each had to take some home. I love leftovers! This restaurant is small, casual, cozy, and warm. They also have specialty items on their shelves for purchase. Plus awesome Hawaiian shirts! The people who work there are lovely - very friendly and accommodating. Overall, I was happy with everything and really dug the vibe. I will definitely be back!

Ya see, the thing about tiki drinks is that they take a minute to make, cost a bit extra, and I drink them far too quickly. So unless you're ready to fight me up the stairs for a spot, just avoid this place. The barkeep is rad, they're usually carving a new tiki piece when open, and the menu has like 20 choices.. If you do come here, you will enjoy it. If you don't, that's fine too because I'm trying to keep this place all to my self.

Our drinks were solid I had the Painkiller, and my husband had the Love Potion. The bartenders were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, the TVs displaying live online poker really detracted from the ambiance. We really enjoy tiki bars for the drinks and the escapism, and it was just way too hard, actually impossible, to forget we were sitting in a Midwestern bar in the middle of winter. We will probably give it another chance, when it's not the grand re-opening, but based on that first experience, really nothing to write home about.

From the outside it is so bland and you are truly unsure if you are walking into an abandoned building or a crappy towny bar. Once you enter, it may take your eyes a moment to adjust if you are coming in from a bright sunny day. Foundation Bar has super low lighting, very moody. There is ample seating and a few different seating options; bar stools, booths, high top tables. Seat yourself. To order drinks you walk up to the bar. There is not table service. The decorations here are great! There are some really incredible pieces and collections! Some I would love to have if I could find them. This is a very laid back atmosphere, very chill not loud or overbearing so relax and enjoy the ambiance. I believe my drink was called El Diablo and was very good. We arrived with three people (one a regular due to GF dietary needs) and started at the bar while waiting for a table. Right away, the service felt off. My friend asked about a martini -- understandable if that's not offered, but the bartender's response came across more curt than courteous. When she explained she was hoping for something more savory, that could've been a chance to suggest alternatives, but instead he just walked away. My own drink, which I'd ordered before, was supposed to come flaming with a cinnamon stick, but it was served plain. Without the flame, the cinnamon stick added nothing. We also weren't given straws and had to grab them ourselves. The bigger issue was around my friend's gluten-free needs. When she asked about the coconut water, the bartender admitted he wasn't sure but assumed it was fine because "that's the restaurant's thing." Instead of checking the container or showing her the label (which is standard at most places), he told her to look it up online. That felt dismissive and concerning -- especially since the brand isn't certified GF and could risk cross-contamination for someone with celiac disease. We decided to stay and order food: crack fries, chicken tenders, pork tacos, fried rice with jerk chicken (suggested by our waitress as a protein add-on), and a Caesar salad. The fries (with volcano ranch) were excellent, as always -- honestly the highlight of the meal. The tacos were good, and my friend enjoyed her tenders. But the rest fell flat: the salad had brown lettuce, and the jerk chicken in the fried rice came shredded and bland, almost boiled, instead of the grilled/seasoned style we expected. The rice itself was gummy and lacked flavor. My friend didn't touch it, and the waitress didn't seem to notice or ask about it. When the bill came, they did credited $5.50 of the $6 for the chicken add-on. No offer of to-go boxes, despite lots of food left behind. Overall, the service felt inattentive, the drinks underwhelmed, and the food was hit-or-miss -- especially for the prices. It's frustrating since this is one of the few GF-friendly spots for my friend, but based on this visit, we may just stick to at-home dinners together instead.
