I am in absolute shock of the conversation I just had with the person who picked up the phone when I called 808-372-2251. Hereʻs a brief summary of the conversation. Me: Aloha, I am calling for scooter rentals for an event for Native Hawaiian kūpuna (our elderly). Iʻm wondering if you have kamaʻāina or group rates, event discounts or event sponsorship? Him: No to the last (sponsorship). We treat everyone the same. But "that group of people" are probably too heavy for my scooters, you may want to call Triple A. Me: What is the maximum weight for your scooters? Him: 300 pounds. Me: Iʻm sorry, Iʻm not sure I said anything about their weight though. Him: Yeah, well normally "that group of people" gain the weight when they get older. Me: Have a great day. This business should not be called "ALOHA Mobility Scooter." The way he referred to "that group of people" is not treating everyone the same. How dare you use a Hawaiian word and then profile and stereotype the elders who actually make the aloha come alive. In Honolulu I rate Harrold 5 Stars. I love how he delivers in Honolulu to your door. I understand on the other side of the island he has a fee because of the long drive. We rented this scooter when We were in Hawaii. My son was able to pick it up for us. We had a few longer treks planned for us and the scooter saved the days. We were both able to go up the road to the lighthouse because we took turns riding it. I had knee replacement in Nov so was getting around fairly well, but he was having some pain in his leg and hip. Taking turns was just the trick to both of us seeing the lighthouse together. The overlook there was spectacular! Makapu'U point Lighthouse did not disappoint. Harold and his company are amazing! My mom had her back go out just a few weeks before our trip to Hawaii. She could still walk a little, but her mobility was very limited. Harold answered all of her questions through what seemed like many phone calls while she was on pain meds, and he was very patient and friendly with her. He brought the scooter to our hotel and really emphasized the need for safety, which was just what my mom needed to hear. He also talked directly with the owner of the tour company we used to see if we could bring the mobility scooter. When he found out we couldn't, he hooked us up with a lightweight wheelchair for a very small fee that helped us out for the day. He delivered that right to our hotel, too. My mom and I had a good chuckle about the "rent me for $150 a week" sign on the front of the scooter. As long as folks knew it was for the scooter and not my mom... :) Waikiki is pretty scooter friendly, too. She was able to ride right only the city bus and the driver strapped her down. We took the scooter to the beach near our hotel and parked it sort of near the showers and had no trouble. There are a few bumpy patches of sidewalk here and there, and it gets a little crazy during busy times....but the most important thing is that renting the mobility scooter and wheelchair allowed my mom to access the island instead of cancelling or postponing our trip. I called and the person who answered was very rude. I asked if they have any electric mobility scooters available for rent and he asked my location. I said Honolulu. He then began asking me where and I told him I'm home and he wanted my address. I asked if he can tell me if he have any electric scooter available for rent before he start asking me my home address and he told me to get somebody else. Rude and creepy. My question required a simple yes or no. I give my home address if I'm doing business with someone and have their property, no business was established so why would you ask my address and refuse to answer my simple question. I'll never recommend, it's creepy and I'm the customer you want money from. If you don't have what I'm looking for just say that so we can end the conversation. I called to book a rental and he was so rude, rushed me off the phone, took my cc info, and told me to call when I get there. I said ok, is there a time frame from the time I call to anticipate the drop off, he responded..."No, I don't know what's going on that day, you have to call!"
