My biggest issue was the ongoing lack of clear, accurate information. I was always very explicit that I only wanted the work we had agreed on--no surprises, no additions. Despite that, I always left the office with innumerable extra fees and then was repeatedly told certain procedures would be covered by insurance, only to find out afterward that they weren't. During my final visit, I was absolutely clear I just wanted a cleaning and then was coerced into x-rays. I refused them THREE TIMES and they insisted I get them done, assuring me insurance would cover them. I had no time to explore this claim and consented, only to, of course, end up with a huge bill. Customer service at the front desk only added to the frustration. They were consistently dismissive, unhelpful, and at times outright rude. Any attempt to get clarity about billing or treatment was met with condescension or impatience. The whole office has an unfriendly, uncomfortable energy. The most troubling part of my experience was with the crown I received. I knew I was getting a crown--but no one told me until the day it was being placed that it would only cover half my tooth. It looks strange and totally atypical, and I would never have agreed to this approach if it had been explained to me ahead of time. I was essentially informed while sitting in the chair waiting for it to be put on, at which point I had no real ability to make an informed decision. To make matters worse, I now have to redo a root canal that I had done there just over a year ago. Quality dental work simply shouldn't fail that quickly. Overall, my experience with Mountain & Sea Dental involved unclear communication, lack of informed consent, poor customer service, and dental work that didn't hold up. I left feeling unheard, blindsided, and extremely disappointed. I would not recommend this office.

He couldn't get the crown to fit and kept taking it out and filing it down and he didn't properly sterilize it. His haste made me sick. When I went back the next day to Mountain and Sea for help Dr. Carley told me I had an "ingrown hair" and sent me on my way-no antibiotics, and zero concern or willingness to take responsibility. I went to the ER the next day (Saturday) with a golf ball sized lump on my jaw and a red rash running down my neck. I was given antibiotics, finally, and took my first pill at 3:00 that day. At 3am Sunday I awakened disoriented, nauseated and dripping wet with sweat. I called 911. By the time the paramedics arrived (they got lost) I was feeling better the antibiotic I had taken 12 hours earlier seemed to have kicked in and I had stabilized. I went back the following Thursday to have the crown removed so I could get this bacteria to leave my body. I could feel it in me, truly-nausea and bursts of heat, that's your body trying to heal. When Schaffer removed the crown we were greeted by the most putrid smell. Bacteria had been cooking and brewing just loving life under my new crown. It cost me almost $1,000 in ER & doctor visits for me to get proper care. Dr. Carley left town and barely agreed to pay me back saying it the infection was my fault. I spent $20K here in 2 years you'd think they'd be more gracious. Oh yeah, and they over charged me too this place is BS.

It was a strange experience to be on the other side of the chair with someone new as I was used to having dentists that I knew personally treat me. I am very impressed with Dr. Scartello and his office. The up to date technologies, efficient spotless office, very friendly staff, and total comfort was over the top. My choice in treatment options were given and explicitly communicated. The office was designed for patient comfort and not flashy with unnecessary attempts to impress, similar to how I also built my own office. I appreciate those all the details. I learned things that I would do in my practice if I was still working, such as the R.D.A. massaging tight jaw muscles in a free moment. Highest recommendation!

As far as the appointments, though, something was off and a little fishy. He had said one tooth had too many fillings and it needed a veneer so I did that and it was a huge amount of money. I think it was around $800. After that I had problems with the tooth and he said it could've been a hairline fracture or it could need a cap and he was ready to schedule an appointment for that. Not only that is he pointed out that I had about three teeth with cavities in it. I also asked him to shave down my teeth and some areas from some bad fillings. I had gotten previously from a different dentist and he never did that for me. I decided to go to Kendall Rhodes associates. They didn't find any of the cavities. There was nothing wrong with the tooth that he wanted to fix a hairline fracture for. Not only that is on a very first appointment the dentist smooth out my fillings without me having to ask, she knows it and said how terrible and just went into it. I'm blown away. I want to believe that this is a good dentist and that money isn't a contributing factor to the decisions he made on my teeth. But I'm having a really hard time justifying all the money that I've spent. I'm very thankful I went to another dentist where I feel like they aren't just trying to milk my money.
